Cal Tjader's The Prophet (recorded in 1968 in New York & Los Angeles and released the same year on Verve) captures the vibraphonist at a moment of artistic expansion, blending his signature Latin jazz with a more orchestrated, textural approach. Arranged/conducted by Don Sebesky and produced by Esmond Edwards, the album features an ensemble including Joao Donato (organ), Red Mitchell (bass), Ed Thigpen (drums), and Hubert Laws (flute). Drawing on a broad palette of jazz, Latin, and blues influences, The Prophet reflects Tjader's growing interest in composition and arrangement, balancing melodic elegance with rhythmic sophistication. Several of the album's compositions were written by Brazilian pianist Joao Donato, adding a harmonic warmth and subtle bossa nova influence to the overall character. The Verve Vault series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Cannonball's Sharpshooters, originally released in 1958, documents alto saxophonist Julian "Cannonball" Adderley leading a quintet featuring cornetist Nat Adderley, pianist Junior Mance, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Recorded on March 4 and 6, 1958, at Bell Sound in New York City, the session captures the group just days before Adderley's recording session for Somethin' Else with Miles Davis, placing the album at a pivotal moment in his late-1950s trajectory. The ensemble presents a compact hard-bop program reflecting Adderley's blues-inflected phrasing alongside the harmonic language of modern bebop. The repertoire balances standards, bop vehicles, and originals, including Tadd Dameron's "Our Delight" and Thelonious Monk's "Straight, No Chaser." Adderley's trademark exuberance while leading an all-star lineup of 1950s jazz defines the character of this session. The Verve Vault series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Transferred from the original reel-to-reel master tapes. Includes previously unreleased track. Audiophile 180g vinyl pressing + Gatefold cover. Liner notes by DJ Bongohead. Long sought-after Afro-Latin jazz-funk. Originally released in 1975 on Montilla Records, "Fire & Sugar" is a rare Afro-Latin jazz-funk gem by Cuban multi-instrumentalist Jesus "La Grulla" Caunedo. A respected yet often uncredited figure who worked alongside artists such as Tito Puente, Machito, Celia Cruz and Chico O'Farrill, Caunedo delivered here his most forward-thinking statement. Recorded in Puerto Rico, the album blends Afro-Cuban rhythms, heavy Latin percussion, tight brass arrangements, fuzz guitar, and jazz-fusion elements, moving from explosive dancefloor cuts to deeper, atmospheric moments. Long prized by DJs and collectors across Latin, funk and rare groove circles, this official reissue restores the full warmth and punch of the original recordings. An essential 1975 Latin jazz-funk title, back in print. UPC: 5050580867697Label: RocafortRelease Date: 5.8.26Format: Vinyl

Salvant and the ensemble perform timeless songs newly arranged by composer and bandleader Darcy James Argue. “It is a rare opportunity to be able to make an album at this scale, which has been a dream of mine for many years,” Salvant says.

Picture this: it's 1960, and the world is still reeling from the Eisenhower era, poodle skirts, and the faint hum of early rock 'n' roll trying to steal jazz's thunder. Charlie Byrd's album The Guitar Artistry of Charlie Byrd drops like a perfectly timed rimshot, ready to remind everyone that jazz can be sophisticated, soulful, and swing like nobody's business. It was at Edgewood Studios in Washington, D.C. where Byrd, the Virgina-born guitar wizard, with his trusty unamplified Spanish guitar, plied his magic. Recorded in 1960 and released in 1963 on Riverside Records (after a limited run as Charlie's Choice: Jazz at the Showboat, Vol. 4 on Washington Records' Offbeat imprint), this album is Byrd at his peak, blending jazz's improvisational fire with the refined finesse of classical technique. The tracklist reads like a love letter to versatility: from the peppy 'Taking a Chance on Love' to the dreamy 'Moonlight in Vermont,' and a nod to his idol Django Reinhardt with 'Nuages.' Oh, and let's not forget 'Django,' a solo guitar performance that's so intimate, you'll swear Byrd's playing it just for you in your living room. The album's vibe is like a martini - smooth, sophisticated, but with a kick that sneaks up on you. AllMusic gave it a glowing 4? stars, calling it (more...) The latter he released on the Dutch jazz label Timeless Records. He recorded the album with bassist Ricardo Del Fra, drummer John Engels and pianist Michel Graillier. Few musicians have embodied the romantic, and ultimately tragic, jazz figure as totally as Chesney "Chet" Baker (1929-88). Unschooled yet eloquent in his music, the Baker mystique has only reinforced one of the most haunting trumpet styles and ingenuous approaches to jazz singing. Chet is Chet Baker's classic 1959 Riverside album featuring jazz legends Bill Evans, Kenny Burrell, Herbie Mann and Pepper Adams. On Chet Baker - In New York, Chet plays like an angel with a muted trumpet. In New York captures the moody prince of cool stepping into the East Coast hard bop ring - and holding his own with charm, tone, and those impossibly lyrical lines that seem to float above the beat like cigarette smoke in a club basement.Chet Baker didn't play the trumpet. He seduced it. His tone? So velvety, you might try spreading it on toast. His solos? Like a conversation with someone who never raises their voice - but always gets the last word. On In New York, Chet proves that his famously fragile persona belied a rock-solid sense of melody, timing, and understated swagger.Chet may be the name on the cover, but he came to town with some serious firepower. Johnny Griffin (tenor sax), known as the 'Little Giant' brings a big sound and a bebop bite, pushing Chet into edgier territory - and yes, it works. Al Haig (piano), is bebop royalty. Cool, crisp, and a perfect harmonic foil for Baker's phrasing. Paul Chambers (bass), is from Miles' first-call list. He doesn't just walk the bass - he struts. Lastly, Philly Joe Jones (drums) swings so hard, it's a wonder the studio walls didn't cave in. This lineup turns In New York from a moody trumpet feature into a full-on jazz heavyweight bout, where elegance and energy shake hands for 42 glorious minutes.Among the tracks, 'Fair Weather' opens like a sigh and builds to a gorgeous melodic statement. Chet's tone is so pure, you'll swear it's whispering secrets. 'Solar' is the Miles Davis tune. Chet steps into the master's world and makes it his own. Confident, cool, and swinging. 'Polka Dots and Moonbeams' is a ballad done Baker-style: Romantic, vulnerable, and smoother than a vintage Cadillac. These are just a taste of the treasures that await on In New York. This vinyl reissue is par excellence: Mastering by Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman at Acoustech Mastering, double LP cut at 45 RPM and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings! Plus it's housed in a Stoughton Printing Old Style Tip-On gatefold jacket with scuff-resistant matte finish. This is an album that deserves space in every jazz fan's collection. It captures a unique moment in Chet's career - between the breezy West Coast cool and the rawer later years. It's a must-have for any jazz collector who values tone, taste, and a little touch of trumpet romance. Add to cart. Drop the needle. Limited double hand-numbered 180gm vinyl LP pressing housed in gatefold jacket. Chet Baker showed with his music that little bit of dark substance that exists in the human being - the shadow side - just as very few other jazz musicians have been able to do. However, such a reading that looks for traces of anguish and self-destruction in every note - and which has also been translated into a couple of films - has ended up overshadowing something very important: namely, that Chet Baker was a top-notch jazz musician, the creator of a unique and personal poetics, an interpreter who did not wallow in his own torments but who also knew how to take less introspective paths, including a superfine and very lively swing. In this final phase of his career, Baker often liked to have groups without drums with him because, in addition to allowing him to maintain a muffled volume in his singing and trumpet playing, the drumless situation guaranteed him greater freedom. Only the double bass player was left to keep time, a role here entrusted to a solid Knauer. In Ferrara, a sensitive French pianist, Michel Graillier, took the stage; in those years he was looking for a synthesis between the energy of McCoy Tyner and the harmonic language of Bill Evans. Finally, the presence of a piano allowed Stilo to limit the use of the other harmonic instrument, the guitar, in favor of the flute.

After several successful album releases in a mainstream setting, Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, known then as Christian Scott, chose to continue his path towards full control of his artistic identity. His 2015 release was titled Stretch Music, and it marked the creation of his own label of the same name. A bold move, both musically and professionally; one that nurtured his creative spirit and opened the way for a steady stream of albums that refined his sound and mission. Stretch Music was well received in the press, and from that point his listeners had a direct way to support his choices and sounds. Just as a climber can only see the clarity of the path when he reaches the summit, we can now look back at the direct line that brought the artist to this point. To commemorate this journey, Chief Adjuah presents to the world The Stretch Music 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition with three new tracks. The deluxe edition reaffirms Stretch Music's dynamic legacy and mission to create new sonic landscapes and musical languages that embrace possibility and innovation while still honoring tradition. The Stretch Music 10th anniversary offering features three new compositions from Chief Adjuah's upcoming releases. "Back 2 Back" - featuring Elena Pinderhughes, "Shared Stories of Rivals II" - featuring Logan Richardson and Weedie Braimah and "Take Off Your Cool" - featuring Robert Glasper. Each composition was written to address critical socio-political issues shaping our time. The Stretch Music 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition continues to exemplify the necessity of innovation in today's music. It does so by demonstrating the potential for adaptability and socio-cultural engagement while still pushing boundaries and incorporating a wide array of influences and cultures.

Double vinyl LP pressing. Alive With Ghosts Today is Chris Potter's new suite inspired by the story of the abolitionist John Brown. Potter, widely regarded as one of the most influential improvisers and composers of his generation, traces Brown's 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry - a moment that exposed the contradictions, violence and ideals at the heart of America. He uses the narrative as a lens to explore belief, sacrifice and the unresolved tension that still sits in American life. The music pushes into a raw, American- rooted soundworld shaped by blues, folk, Copland-esque harmony, and the rhythmic drive that runs through the country's history. The ensemble was built to sound like a small- town band with limited resources but deep character - guitar, bass, drums, violin, clarinet and trombone. Bill Frisell's guitar forms the emotional centre, carrying the grain and warmth Potter imagined while writing. Nate Smith and Burniss Travis lock the pulse with weight and feel. Sarah Caswell's violin moves between classical clarity and fiddle grit. Clarinetist Rane Moore and trombonist Zekkereya El-magharbel shape the edges of the music with distinct colours, turning written material into something lived-in and human. Their collective sound gives the suite it's shape and force.

The final album recorded by the late double-Grammy-winning Chuck Mangione, Everything for Love, was the flugelhorn maestro's second outing for Chesky Records, a New York label renowned for it's audiophile-quality recordings and for cutting it's artists live in what producer David Chesky described as "reverberant spaces" using a single microphone. Recorded in St. Peter's Church, Chelsea, New York, in 2000, Everything for Love reunited Mangione with some of the musicians who had played with him in the '70s - saxophonist/flutist Gerry Niewood, guitarist Grant Geissman, and bassist Charles Meeks - and featured mostly original material. Highlights include 'Peggy Hill,' which Mangione composed for the animated sitcom King Of The Hill; 'Slo Ro,' a portrait of Mangione's wife Rosie; and the album's only cover, a soulful, gospel-tinged rendition of the hymn 'Amazing Grace,' where Mangione takes the listener to church. Everything for Love is a fitting musical epitaph for Mangione, who died in 2025. The album will be reissued in 2026 on SACD Hybrid Stereo and 180g One-step Pressing Vinyl LP as part of the Chesky Original Masters series.
