Abate Berihun & The Addis Ken Project's Addis Ken (New Day) is a deeply evocative journey where jazz becomes both vessel and invocation. Drawing from Ethiopian Jewish liturgical traditions, pan-African rhythms, and modern improvisational language, they fuse ancient memory with contemporary expression in music that feels timeless and urgent all at once. Berihun's commanding tenor and soprano saxophones are matched by his remarkable vocal presence-earthy, elastic, and prayerful-capable of moving seamlessly from guttural incantation to soaring, skyward cries. Joined by pianist Roy Mor, bassist David Michaeli, and drummer/percussionist Nitzan Birnbaum, the quartet operates with intuitive empathy, shaping grooves and atmospheres that breathe and expand around Berihun's impassioned lead. Moments such as the stirring "Behatitu Kadush Kadush," featuring vocalist Rudi Bainesay, reach directly into sacred terrain, while pieces like "Addis Ken" and "Jerusalem" balance reverence with forward momentum. Rich in texture, spirit, and blues-rooted intensity, Addis Ken is music as lived experience-honoring lineage while speaking vividly in the present tense. "They are a joy to behold." Jerusalem Post. "The quartet of brilliant musicians drew inspiration not only from across the planet but also from the depths of time." - Tom š S. Pol¡vka (Prague)

Electric is the seventh studio album from 2025 Billboard Artist of the Year and 19-time Billboard #1 guitarist producer Adam Hawley-a forward-thinking collection that pushes contemporary jazz deeper into the streaming era while staying rooted in melody, groove, and emotional connection. The album has already delivered two Billboard #1 singles-"Automatic" and "RollerSk8." "Automatic" blends polished guitar phrasing with an effortlessly catchy hook, mid-tempo pocket, and sleek modern production-ideal for core smooth jazz playlists that balance accessibility with musicianship. "RollerSk8," by contrast, leans into playful rhythmic motion and nostalgic funk undertones, offering a bright, feel-good energy that keeps listeners engaged without overpowering the mood. The album also features marquee appearances by Dave Koz, Everette Harp, Marion Meadows, Jeff Ryan, and Kat Hawley-artists whose audiences align strongly with smooth jazz streaming demographics. These collaborations add tonal variety while preserving cohesion: soaring saxophone lines, silky melodic exchanges, and conversational improvisation moments that elevate the project without drifting from playlist-friendly structure.

Younge is Adrian Younge's magnum opus: an orchestral album written from the perspective of a hip hop producer, and a hip hop record composed with the discipline of classical and cinematic music. It reframes orchestral composition not as nostalgia, but as a living language built for reinterpretation.Inspired by composers like Lalo Schifrin, David Axelrod, Ennio Morricone, Galt MacDermot, Bo Hansson, and later visionaries such as Portishead's Geoff Barrow, the album draws from a lineage of emotionally charged, forward-thinking music that quietly shaped hip hop decades later through sampling. These were records defined by tension, restraint, and atmosphere-qualities Younge places at the center of this work.Recorded entirely to tape at Linear Labs, Younge unfolds like a lost soundtrack from an alternate history: modular compositions, dramatic movements, and themes that feel simultaneously ancient and futuristic. The music anticipates reuse-it invites sampling, deconstruction, and dialogue-without ever feeling unfinished.Adrian Younge has spent years testing orchestral music in front of live audiences, refining how large ensembles communicate energy, space, and narrative. That experience is embedded in the record. Every arrangement breathes. Every silence matters. This is not orchestral music collaborating with hip hop. It is orchestral music as hip hop-spoken fluently across time.

This album is a collection of musical portraits - intimate sketches shaped by memory, place, and human connection. It reflects the soundscape of Alexander Ruess' upbringing near the Baltic Sea, the people who accompanied him along the way, and the impressions gathered through travel and encounter. At it's core, the music is deeply personal. Fur Opa is dedicated to Ruess' grandfather, who never played an instrument yet supported his musical journey unconditionally, driving him to countless lessons and proudly claiming responsibility for his grandson's talent. Sangen Fra Havet is an homage to the Baltic Sea and the Danish coastline, whose quiet vastness and shifting moods echo throughout the record. Cornflower draws inspiration from the vivid blue flower that grew at the edges of rural fields - a favorite of Ruess' maternal grandfather - symbolizing memory, landscape, and rootedness. The album balances composition and spontaneity. Interlude, the only fully improvised piece, captures the natural interplay between guitar, double bass, and drums, allowing the music's energy to unfold organically in the moment. Throughout the record, lyrical melodies meet open forms, creating space for both narrative clarity and collective expression.Recorded in Berlin with longtime collaborators Luca Curcio and Sebastian Merk, the trio's sound is defined by trust, subtle interaction, and shared musical intuition. A special highlight is the appearance of trombonist Nils Landgren on Fur Opa, whose music was a formative influence on Ruess' childhood and whose presence adds a distinctive warmth and depth to the album.Ultimately, this record is a dedication - to family, mentors, friends, and places that shape who we become. It is an expression of gratitude and belonging, rendered through sound UPC: 0608917147629Label: Double MoonRelease Date: 4.17.26Format: CD

Strangers is pianist Alexander Wienand's bold new statement - a celebration of curiosity, discovery, and the creative spark that emerges when artists step into the unknown together. The album's concept grew from a simple but powerful idea: that unfamiliarity can be one of the greatest sources of inspiration. Whether it's an untested rhythm, a new musical partner, or an idea outside of music entirely, these moments of uncertainty challenge musicians to respond - and it is within these reactions that true creativity is born. The title track Strangers embodies this philosophy. Two contrasting themes evolve through improvisation until they merge into a single, unified musical narrative - a metaphor for encounter, tension, and transformation. Historic 4 hours of previously unissued 1959 live Art Pepper recorded at Vancouver, Canada's legendary jazz club The Cellar. The release of Art Pepper's Everything Happens To Me: 1959 - Live At The Cellar is the stuff music archivists can only dream of finding. Recordings by an historic and important jazz artist, at a storied venue, at a time when the artist was making some of their most essential work. In this case, catching Pepper on tape at The Cellar in 1959 finds him in the midst of creating and straddling landmark releases like, Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section (1957), Modern Art (1957), Art Pepper + Eleven (1959) and Gettin' Together (1960). Though Pepper was going through a down time, Vancouver, Canada's jazz club, The Cellar was in full swing and in the middle of its seven-year run (1956-1963).Dave Quarin, a saxophone player himself, managed The Cellar at the time, "The Cellar years were a good time for us," Quarin states. "There were a half a million or so people in Vancouver then. We had CBC radio in the late 1950s, and they did live shows from Vancouver. We were very in-touch with American news, so I knew about the good musicians." It was Quarin who captured Art on tape. Pepper was accompanied by pianist Chris Gage, bassist Tony Clitheroe and drummer George Ursan.Everything Happens To Me: 1959 - Live At The Cellar utilizes a fly-on-the-wall approach that includes all the existing music as the recordings happened. As a result, the 4-CD / Digital set includes some incomplete tracks, but most songs run near to completion. The producers Laurie Pepper (Art's widow) and Omnivore Recordings', Cheryl Pawelski didn't want to omit the near hour of additional music just because tape ran out on a track. Restoration and mastering engineer Michael Graves, restored and unified the existing audio to welcome you into The Cellar environment despite microphone placement changes within the club with nearly every change of tape.Album notes by Kirk Silsbee include interviews with Laurie Pepper and Dave Quarin who also provided archival photos from the era, and the album art is built around the linocut that used to hang above the bar at The Cellar, a stunning piece called The Trio by Harry J. Webb (1954).It's not often that ephemeral moments at pivotal times during an artist's career are captured such that nearly 70 years later they are ours to experience, but Art Pepper's 1959 visits to The Cellar were transformative, "Pepper would later say that the experience was so emotionally satisfying that he would subse¬quently recommit himself to jazz."Art Pepper ~ Live At The Cellar

GIANTS is jazz guitarist Barry Greene's most fully realized recording to date-a powerful tribute to the players who shaped his musical voice, including Pat Martino, Grant Green, Wes Montgomery, and Russell Malone. Spanning organ trio, modern ensemble, and solo guitar settings, the album reflects a lifetime of deep immersion in the jazz tradition, delivered with authority, swing, and an unmistakable personal voice. With Pat Bianchi on B3 organ and drummer Ulysses Owens Jr., Greene captures the raw energy and soulful drive of the classic organ trio. The broader sound palette of his quintet setting with David Kikoski on piano, Steve Nelson on vibraphone, bassist Marco Panascia, and Owens, yields richly textured performances that balance fire, lyricism, and harmonic depth. More than a tribute, Giants is a statement-an artist at the peak of his powers honoring the lineage while speaking unmistakably in his own voice. "Monster chops, soulful feel, full/rich classic jazz tone, and virtuosic harmonic techniques establish him as a top-tier guitarist." - Benedetto Guitars. Barry Greene is just about one of the best; not only as a player, but also as a writer and a teacher & a world-class musician. Pat Martino

For a decade, the trio of Ben Allison, Steve Cardenas, and Ted Nash has coalesced into a singular ensemble highlighting impressive group interplay and creative interpretations of the music of their favorite composers. After years of focusing on the music of others, the drummer-less trio found it the right time to take on the compositions of it's members on the new recording, Triological. The relationships between Allison, Cardenas, and Nash have spanned decades. Woodwind master Nash enlisted Allison for the bassist's first professional gig in 1990. Their bond deepened later in the decade as they became members of the Jazz Composers Collective. Guitarist Steve Cardenas was brought into Allison's orbit in 2004, the two discovering a deep connection evidenced on the many projects they have worked on together. The trio came together when Cardenas and Allison were approached with a gig in Upstate New York. For the performance, they decided to focus on the music of guitar legend Jim Hall. After a first rehearsal, Cardenas and Allison decided to add a horn to the mix in homage to the revolutionary trio of Jimmy Giuffre, which had featured Hall and bassist Ralph Pena. Their choice of Nash as the woodwind voice was inspired and the trio has been impressing listeners ever since. The configuration of the trio may owe much to the model of that Giuffre group. They reference, but do not intend to duplicate, that trio's example, as the instrumentation has allowed for an openness to explore any musical direction, from free to folk, all in the most conversational of manners. Naturally, the group's first recording, Quiet Revolution (Newvelle and Sonic Camera Records, 2016/2018), featured their arrangements of Hall and Giuffre. Their next recording, Somewhere Else: West Side Story Songs (Plastic Sax Records, 2019) presented the trio's takes on the music of Leonard Bernstein's beloved musical. Their 2022 Sunnyside recording, Healing Power, celebrated the genius of Carla Bley and their 2024 release, Tell The Birds I Said Hello, shined light on the brilliance of Herbie Nichols. When faced with choosing another composer to feature, the trio reached a creative dead end. They felt that it was time to do something conceptually different and that provided a reflection of where they were as an ensemble. Each being a celebrated composer in his own right, the trio decided it was time for a new challenge: To write for this themselves. The trio members knew that a program of original music from each member would provide a fantastic mix of music, as they all write so differently from one another. The trio brought three pieces each (plus one more for Allison) to record at Matt Balitsaris's Maggie's Farm Studio over two days in late June 2025.The trio of Ben Allison, Steve Cardenas, and Ted Nash has spent ten years honing an individual group sound by funneling the influences, their years of experience, and their love of discovery. It is through that prism that their new recording, Triological, highlights a new side of the trio's personality, as they explore their own compositions.

First transforming the iconic music of Cedar Walton into stellar big band arrangements, followed by a dive into the idiosyncratic rhythmic mastery of Ari Hoenig, pianist and composer Ben Markley's two big band albums displayed a formidable voice, always searching for challenges while reveling in surprise. With Tuesday Morning Feeling, Markley steps decisively into his own voice, delivering seven originals and several new arrangements of Thelonious Monk and Cedar Walton. He balances authority and openness, pairing strong melodic ideas with flexible frameworks that invite conversation, risk, and momentum. The band itself is a blend of long-standing Front Range collaborators and world-renowned guest artists, including Terell Stafford, Steve Nelson, Steve Davis, Bijon Watson, and David Wong, whose presence adds both fire and depth to the ensemble sound. Solos burn, the ensemble breathes as one, and the rhythmic engine never loses sight of swing. Tuesday Morning Feeling captures a big band in it's stride: grounded, evolving, and driven by the joy of making music. Betty Bryant is a Los Angeles treasure. The singer, pianist, and composer has been a regular on the Southern California jazz scene since 1955, when she moved from her hometown of Kansas City, MO, where she was mentored by the late, great Jay McShann. Now, at the remarkable age of 96, Bryant is releasing NOTHIN' BETTER TO DO, her 15th album. Dubbed "Cool Miss B" by her producer and saxophonist Robert Kyle, her blues-based piano and vocal stylings have garnered a legion of fans at numerous jazz clubs and night spots up and down the West Coast and beyond. NOTHIN' BETTER TO DO features three original tunes (one by Bryant, one by Bryant and Kyle, and one by Kyle) as well as several tracks that are off the beaten path. With Bryant and Kyle out front, the music swings with an appealing bluesy, lilting quality. The arrangements are mostly by Bryant and Kyle, with string arrangements on two tracks by Jim McMillen.

Bill Evans is widely considered to be one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. Evans' use of impressionist harmony, inventive interpretation of traditional jazz repertoire, block chords, and trademark rhythmically independent, "singing" melodic lines continue to resonate today. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey on 16 August 1929, Evans was classically trained and studied at Southeastern Louisiana University. In 1955 he moved to New York, where he worked with bandleader and theorist George Russell. In 1958, Evans joined Miles Davis' sextet, where he was to have a profound influence. In 1959, the band, then immersed in modal jazz, recorded Kind of Blue, the best-selling jazz album of all time. In late 1959, Evans left the Miles Davis band and began his career as a leader with Scott LaFaro and Paul Motian, a group now regarded as a seminal modern jazz trio. In 1961, ten days after recording the highly acclaimed Sunday at the Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby, LaFaro died in a car accident. After months of seclusion, Evans re-emerged with a new trio, featuring bassist Chuck Israels. Despite his success, Evans suffered personal loss and struggled with drug abuse. Both his girlfriend Elaine and his brother Harry committed suicide, and he was a long time user of heroin. Many of his compositions have become standards and have been played and recorded by many artists. Evans was honored with 31 Grammy nominations and seven awards, and was inducted in the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame. This compilation contains Evans' first 12 albums as leader covering the years 1956 - when he recorded and released his debut record New Jazz Conceptions featuring the original version of his most covered track 'Waltz For Debby' - through to his seminal Empathy album in 1962. Generally considered in jazz circles as the period in which Evans' star shone brightest and the era of his finest work, this 6CD set is as close to the perfect Bill Evans collection as is currently available.

After many years of working to synthesize voice and trumpet, Bria Skonberg has chosen to explore them both individually. Her new album on Cellar Music is the first of those explorations - ' Brass'. For Juno award winner Skonberg studying the trumpet has been a true labor of love. Through precision, power, style, and/or subtlety, this collection of songs and arrangements is a celebration of her favorite elements of playing the trumpet. Her trio of Luther Allison, Eric Wheeler and Darrian Douglas provides a highly swinging, steady yet versatile foundation for the project. The trumpet is ultimately an extension of Bria Skonberg's voice, and the beauty of instrumental music is it can often express emotions without words. As with previous projects, Skonberg finds a way forward by building on the past - writing a number for pioneer brass instrumentalist Dolly Jones, as well as featured future trailblazer Kellin Hanas. The Bryan Ferry Orchestra - "Bitter-Sweet" Drawing inspiration from the shadowy cabarets and smoky jazz halls of late-1920s Weimar Berlin, Bitter-Sweet sees Bryan Ferry and His Orchestra reimagining his solo and Roxy Music catalogue with a sophisticated jazz sensibility. The album features elegant horn and woodwind arrangements, muted trumpet, clarinet flourishes, and a mood of urbane melancholy, transforming classics like "Alphaville," "Reason or Rhyme," and "While My Heart Is Still Beating." Ferry himself provides select vocals on eight tracks, while the remaining songs unfold as instrumental reinterpretations, arranged with the expertise of Colin Good and performed by a full ensemble of seasoned jazz musicians. The album's concept grew from Ferry's work as music consultant on the acclaimed German TV series Babylon Berlin, where several tracks were originally featured, blending cinematic drama with jazz authenticity. Available on CD packaged in Japanese-style oversized sleeve.

The Bryan Ferry Orchestra -"The Jazz Age" / Step into a world where classic art-pop meets the roaring 1920s. The Jazz Age reimagines Bryan Ferry's Roxy Music and solo catalog as elegant jazz instrumentals, presented by the Bryan Ferry Orchestra. From "Virginia Plain" and "Do the Strand" to "Love Is the Drug" and "Avalon," each track is transformed through authentic 1920s-style arrangements featuring banjo, clarinet, muted trumpet, baritone sax, and double bass, crafted by renowned arranger Colin Good. Top UK jazz players, including trumpeter Enrico Tomasso and saxophonist Alan Barnes, bring these timeless melodies to life, while mono-style production evokes the charm of vintage 78 RPM recordings. Ferry himself steps back from vocals to serve as conductor and producer, curating this inventive project born from his love of jazz and curiosity about how his songs would stand without singing. Available on CD in a Japanese-style oversized sleeve.

Greetings from Florida: Postcards from Paradise is a new genre-blending song cycle from composer Scott Lee featuring jazz vocalist-guitarist Camila Meza. The album explores the tension between an imagined Florida and the reality experienced by those who are drawn to the state: retirees, tourists, immigrants, and nature lovers. Eight poems by Cuban American poet Carolina Hospital serve as lyrics, each reflecting a different side of Florida, from tourism and retirement to climate crisis and ecological loss.Written for Camila Meza and chamber ensemble, the music blends contemporary classical elements with jazz idioms and pop song structures. Meza's jazz/pop vocals and driving guitar glide over top of noisy, pointillistic grooves performed by a top-notch chamber ensemble of Floridian musicians who deftly execute Lee's complex scores. Together, the poems and music invite listeners to look beyond the postcard and experience Florida in all it's complexity, fragility, and beauty.
