Concern and Simplicity Volume 1: Original Recordings, 1981-1986 documents the scarcely heard recordings of Swiss pianist and composer Lotti Tauber, selected from various albums privately pressed across the 1980s. Living with musculoskeletal disability since childhood, and surviving a critical injury in her late 20s, the singular minimalism and innovative playing of Tauber's piano(s) testifies to music's ability to provide a dialogue between pain and joy. Covering a breadth of output in the final decade of her life, this first archival volume of Tauber's work introduces her capacity to inflect the avant-garde with the intimacy of the personal, combining improvisation and intuition with the chance-based structures to which her intellectual and spiritual life was devoted.Since childhood, Tauber's mobility and playing had been restricted by musculoskeletal issues of the arms and hands. In 1973 she suffered a car accident and a spinal injury that brought with it a period of paralysis and lifelong pain in addition to that which she already experienced from her worsening physical condition. After traveling to Chicago to seek surgical solutions to these problems in 1981, Tauber began recording her own musical compositions. She self-released eight albums over the following decade, each adorned with her own surrealist, and sensational, pencil illustrations: Roundabout Ways (1981), Aufgehoben (1981), Bestimmung (1982), Courage (1982), von Zeit zu Zeit (1982), Planeten (1983), I Ging (1985), and Samowar (1986). To overcome the challenges of her disability, Tauber developed an iconoclastic playing style that focused on the movements of her thumb and ring finger, and her compositions were often structured and even determined by mystical texts related to her Jungian interests. An outsider unknown even within the Swiss musical scene, she aligned her minimalism with the likes of Arvo Pärt and Phillip Glass, while making music that was still unapologetically first and foremost for and of herself. Tauber's intense period of musical productivity in the 1980s coincided with the resumption of her physical decline following the reprieve given by her surgeries in Chicago, and in 1988, she elected to die on her own terms through euthanasia. At the time of her passing, Tauber was 44.Concern and Simplicity focuses on works of Tauber's in which rhythm and melody take turns occupying the seat of the primary object under modulation. In works like "Borderline" and "Neptun," her achingly gentle transformations of each search not for rhythm and melody's final relationship, but for the model of their exploratory and ongoing communication. In "Einkehr" and "Kan," Tauber places herself in conversation with late 20th century minimalism, developing self-propelling systems of arpeggiation, and unearthing the inescapably narrative potentials of repetition. As musician and author Kristen Gallerneaux emphasizes in the liner notes accompanying Concern and Simplicity, Tauber's compositional "simplicity" functions as "a counterspell against stasis," a permission and challenge to both musician and listener to "abolish, preserve, [and] transcend" the out-of-jointedness of subjective experience. From her education in the psychic structures of Jungian psychoanalysis, to her research into an array of global and historical mystical traditions, to the DIY ethos of music production that she defended despite her disability, Concern and Simplicity captures the singular curiosity which links all of Tauber's pursuits. It is a curiosity that asks what we might we hear if we listen to those wordless parts of ourselves - what it finds, what it puts to music, are the very structures of such a listening, and the endless dialogue with the self they make possible.

Music that makes the ears grow' - this is how lutenist David Bergmüller characterises the music he has chosen for his solo recital. The charm of this album lies in it's complexity, in the quiet, near-silent tones, in it's meditative character. This is precisely why this repertoire still fascinates us today, because it forms a calming counterpoint to our overstimulated world. With this album, French lute music is combined with David Bergmüller's own arrangements. UPC: 885470047690Label: Berlin ClassicsRelease Date: 11.20.26Format: Vinyl
The first notes of the descending chromatic theme break the silence and it seems as if time has stopped. The listener is drawn into the world of John Dowland, the greatest lutenist of all, in a journey through multiple shades of melancholy and lucent hope. Never before had the lute sounded as expressive and colourful as in these masterful Fancies, as dynamic as in these sparkling dances: Renaissance lute music here reached it's summit. Bor Zuljan explores these qualities in his debut solo recording, breathing new life into Dowland's masterpieces. UPC: 5400439010345Label: RicercarRelease Date: 11.20.26Format: Vinyl

Inspired by the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, composer Karen LeFrak wrote American Promise as a reflection on the strength and endurance of the nation-it's ongoing fight for liberty and the deep gratitude shared for the opportunities and freedoms it represents. The album features world-premiere recordings of three new works-American Promise, Lady Liberty Suite, and Prairie Dawn-celebrating hope, arrival, and belonging through sweeping orchestral passages and intimate, lyrical moments.Recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of arranger and conductor William Ross at London's renown Abbey Road Studios, the project brings LeFrak's expansive musical vision to life with both grandeur and emotional depth. The soundboard is painted with flowers, fruits, and animals and decorated with a typical light-blue ornamental border. Around the soundboard, the walls are adorned with block-printed wallpaper. The lid contains a landscape painting, which was added later, an idyllic stream landscape with four staffage figures: The observer watches a boy gazing intently into the water, a young woman carrying provisions or something similar home, and a couple, who are also only visible from behind. A bridge and a mill enliven the rural scene.' If the corresponding technical terms 'soundboard,' 'ornamental border,' or 'lid' were missing, the reader would hardly associate this vivid, florid description with a keyboard instrument. In such a manner, the renowned harpsichordist and expert in historical performance practice and basso continuo, Wolfgang Brunner, describes the instrument dated 1628 by Andreas Ruckers, from the Flemish harpsichord-making dynasty of the Ruckers family, which is heard on this recording featuring the six French Suites by J. S. Bach. UPC: 9003643100077Label: GramolaRelease Date: 11.20.26Format: Vinyl
Babe: Elaboratio is Harry Connick Jr.'s most personal work to date: a 50-minute orchestral piece for piano, big band, and full orchestra, written as a tribute to his mother. Connick was ten years old when his mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer; she died three years later, when he was thirteen. Sweeping in scope and deeply intimate in origin, Babe: Elaboratio finds Connick moving beyond the stage to reveal a side of his story he's never shared before - the private grief, memory, and devotion behind the music. Whether you know Harry Connick Jr. As a Grammy- and Emmy-winning vocalist, pianist, actor, or bandleader, Babe: Elaboratio stands apart as a singular artistic statement - a son's musical love letter to his mother, four and a half decades in the making.

Burning Song, composer and organist Kali Malone's first new album since 2024's All Life Long, represents a transformation in her compositional strategy towards a process that is intuitive and direct. The album was recorded at the historic Thomaskirche in Leipzig, Germany, where J.S. Bach was cantor for the last 27 years of his life; his body rests beneath the sanctuary. Malone is the first musician to perform contemporary works on the church's Bach Organ, an instrument completed in 2000 but with bespoke tuning and temperament systems based on historical norms of the baroque period. She is joined by Lucy Railton on cello and Stephen O'Malley on bowed acoustic guitar, the same trio that honed a profound connection based on deep listening through the development of Malone's work Does Spring Hide It's Joy. Chord follows chord, each in slow succession, emerging like stones of various shades and shapes on a winding path. The trio moves as one, stepwise, through passages that are alternately ambiguous and radiant, at times triumphant as the tones rise towards the organ's upper register. The first half of Burning Song was commissioned for the 2023 Venice Music Biennale and presented at the remarkably ornate San Pietro di Castello. Initial seeds of these pieces were developed on a piano backstage at Bozar in Brussels following a solo electronic performance, long after the audience and staff had departed. The album's final three pieces were composed swiftly in the month preceding the recording session in 2025, their stately progressions emerging within her mind's ear with a sense of ease and inevitability, hovering in the moment just before understanding, where revelation lives. The album's final piece, "My Eve My Dawn," represents a clear vision of this process; foregrounding the cohesion between endings and beginnings, it moves through passages of sadness and joy, the linking tones offering a sense of continuity, and thus of acceptance. The freedom found in the process of composing and realizing Burning Song is one that opens innumerable doors of possibility. In the fertility of ashes grows whatever comes next.

Geoff Kirkwood (Man Power)I'd gained some notoriety as a music producer and DJ but I hit a horrible case of writers block around 2018. Later, in the middle of lockdown, I was emboldened enough to apply for an artist in residence position at a big regional opera house. I submitted a ridiculously ambitious plan for what I would like to do as a project, and to my absolute shock I was selected for the position. I got as far as suggesting writing a full symphony to be performed by an orchestra. The biggest issue for me, beyond raising the money to pay for everything, was how does a person actually write a symphony?I was introduced to Fiona Brice, a multi instrumentalist and orchestral arranger. She's also a recording artist who releases on Bella Union. On top of that, she's a violinist who used to be part of the band Placebo and who used to appear regularly playing for other bands on things like Top of the Pops. Not only was Fiona uniquely placed to not look down on the strange provenance of someone from an acid house background wanting to write a symphony, but more to the point we really hit it off from day one. Fiona coached me in the essentials of writing for an orchestra, and then I went off and wrote the 8 movements.I'd love to say I labored for years over this bit, but it took about 2 weeks in total. I'd also love to say what I wrote was a complete symphony, but the version of this which is solely me feels like looking at something without your glasses on. The shape, feel, and borders were all there, but the definition was absent. Fiona taught me the broad language of a symphony, but without her it would have lacked all intonation, nuance, and detail. Where I had shaped ideas with a hammer, she brought out my meaning with precision using a scalpel. I think the prodigiously quick turnaround for the music is as much proof of how conceptually and musically aligned Fiona and I are. I know we're both incredibly proud of what we've created. The work itself is inspired by the working class experience, but it's also a comment on how we get to decide what we are and how we're defined, and we get to choose what we do to prove these things. The original recording was contractually impossible to ever share again, so we re-recorded it. In many ways it's a record that feels like it shouldn't exist, which is why we're all so happy that it does. UPC: 5050580878860Label: Athens Of The NorthRelease Date: 9.18.26Format: Vinyl

(2-LP set) Recorded at Kingsway Hall and engineered by Kenneth Wilkinson, this record couples Moussorgsky's Pictures at An Exhibition with Night on Bare Mountain. It has long been considered among the greatest sounding records ever made. Perhaps most stunning about Power of the Orchestra are the effortless dynamics, which have been reviewed and raved about ever since the first RCA shaded dog. From the teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy gentle plucks of strings to the power of a full orchestra without a bit of notice. It's heart-stopping, jump-out-of-your-seat-type dynamics. This Pure Analogue Vinyl Edition combines Richard Strauss's An Alpine Symphony with a consistently analogue production process. The live performance by the Wiener Symphoniker under their Chief Conductor Petr Popelka, recorded in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein Vienna on 26 February 2026, was captured on analogue tape using a reel-to-reel process and mastered directly from tape to vinyl without any digital intervention. The result is an exceptionally authentic listening experience, preserving the natural dynamics, spatial depth, and tonal warmth of the live performance in all it's immediacy.Strauss's monumental tone poem unfolds in all it's orchestral splendour-from the mysterious colours of night and the ascent to the summit to the elemental force of the storm and the serenity of the closing pages. With commanding musical insight and a finely judged sense of the work's architecture, the Wiener Symphoniker and Petr Popelka guide the listener through a musical journey that reaches far beyond the depiction of Alpine landscapes, emerging as a profound reflection on the human experience. An insightful essay on the work by Thomas Leibnitz offers fresh perspectives on Strauss's final tone poem. The edition is further enriched by Martin Hoffmeister's specially commissioned essay, ""Melancholy, Contemplation, and Quiet Happiness: Vinyl as a Mark of Distinction"", an exploration of the long-playing record as a cultural artefact, a collector's object, and a uniquely mindful way of experiencing music. For this fourth volume of their complete recording of Mahler's symphonies, Paavo Jarvi and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich present a monumental work: Symphony No. 2, with it's five movements and colossal orchestra, complemented by a choir and soloists: 'Mahler's Symphony No. 2 is a gigantic work - both in substance and in scale', says Paavo Jarvi. Mahler completed the composition in 1894, after more than six years of work, at a time when, whilst he was certainly regarded as a great conductor, his life was difficult: he had lost his father, mother and sister Leopoldine in quick succession - suddenly finding himself responsible for his brothers and sisters - his first symphony had not been well received, and he was the target of an anti-Semitic press campaign in Budapest, where he had been director of the Royal Opera from 1888 to 1891. In a letter dated 1896, Mahler wrote: 'When you wake from this melancholy dream and have to return to life and it's chaos, it can easily happen that this ceaselessly moving, never resting and always incomprehensible bustle of life becomes horrifying to you"" UPC: 3701624512777Label: AlphaRelease Date: 11.6.26Format: Vinyl
A clerestory is an upper section of wall, most often in a church punctuated by windows. It is a powerful image for grasping this luminous new music from Jules Reidy. Light casts shadows, of course, and logics of shadowing, mirroring, and distorted reflection—of key importance for Reidy’s work as a whole—inform the sumptuous surfaces of Clerestory.‘Shadow Symmetric’ is a string quartet commissioned and performed by the JACK Quartet as part of their JACK Studio program. Reidy’s pairing with the quartet is felicitous: JACK are one of the preeminent new music ensembles working today, with a particular interest in just intonation, an important component of Reidy’s music. The piece’s gentle pacing and constrained dynamic range invites us to become immersed in its language of static resonance, complex beating tones, and subtle harmonic surprise. Through it, there threads a melodic theme, passed between instruments and tuning systems, almost at the threshold of perception but with the same yearning quality familiar to listeners of Reidy’s guitar works.‘Clerestory Windows’ offers up a distorted mirror image of the string quartet, arranged as a series of episodes that each remake the material in their own way. It begins with an arrangement of the string quartet material for MIDI strings and voices, then moves into a lyrical 12-string acoustic guitar air performed at the installation opening, before the strings from the first side reappear, now frozen and stretched into slow-moving waves. From this emerge flickering arpeggios, achieved by arranging the string quartet material for the RMI. This cues a move into more active terrain, preparing the way for the delirious final episode, where the string quartet material is re-arranged once more, eventually giving way to spacious chords shadowed by a pair of ringing sine tones.

David Norland is an Emmy-nominated English composer, known for his scores for drama and documentary, alongside his experimental choral and electronic music. Bringing stories to life through sound, he received critical acclaim for his debut solo album 'Glam Tear Stain' (2019) and is set to release follow-up album 'La Source' in June 2026 via Denovali Records. Relocated back to his London home after many years in Los Angeles, and free from years of drug and alcohol problems, recent commissions for two choral works allowed Norland to return to the innocent origin of his musical world, and his experience as a parent prompted a lot of outward reflection. What kind of world are we leaving to our children? From the haunting, choral beauty of 'E-Car Soul' to the breezy album title track, Norland blends minimalist classical structures with electronics. A unified tapestry of blended voices, harmonies and textures, 'La Source' is a deeply emotional and melancholic journey for Norland. 'In the end, I'm looking to find meaning through the music, like when I was a kid singing in choirs. But I get the most sense of meaning through transcendent experiences, rather than anything intellectual or dogmatic. I have to feel it, not think it. I'm trying to make work that's luminous, wondrous, shimmering and strange, so I can keep having those experiences,' says Norland. David Norland is an Emmy-nominated English composer who blends minimalist classical structures with electronics. Previous works: Score for Anvil! The Story Of Anvil (2008), directed by Sacha Gervasi. Music supervisor for Hitchcock (2012) featuring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren & Scarlett Johansson. Score for November Criminals (2017) starring Chloe Moretz and Ansel Elgort.
