That one of the greatest thrash albums of all time was recorded by a bunch of teenagers (or barely even that... drummer Andy Galeon was only 14 years old) still remains one of metal's great success stories. Metallica's Kirk Hammett produced the Kill as One demo for Death Angel, and that, along with a fearsome live reputation (the band played L.A. and NYC despite their tender ages) led to their signing with Enigma and recording The Ultra-Violence in a mere three days. The tempos may have slowed a tad (only a tad), but the musicianship is still staggering if less "technical" and the message ever more uncompromising, even if that is a hint of melodicism on the fan favorite "Bible Basher." Remastered for vinyl and pressed on "Hellfire" smoke vinyl, complete with insert featuring the incendiary lyrics you'd expect.

From the cover art to the lyrics, death metal legends Deicide didn't give an inch when it came to their uncompromising anti-church stance on their 1995 release Once Upon the Cross. In fact, the album included samples from the film The Last Temptation of Christ, which was itself accused of blasphemy. But the band was hardly standing still, as the gobsmacking guitar pyrotechnics of Eric and Brian Hoffman and furious fusillades of bassist/vocalist Glen Benton and drummer Steve Asheim became ever more awe-inspiring and, dare we say it, miraculous. For it's first widespread U.S. vinyl release, we are giving Once Upon the Cross a milky clear with blood splatter pressing remastered for the format, complete with printed inner sleeve featuring lyrics.

The Devil Wears Pradaas 2013 album 8:18 once again pulled off the neat trick of topping the Pop (#6), Metal (#2), and Christian (#1) charts (the title itself is a reference to the Bible verse Romans 8:18, which says that our present-day suffering pales next to the glory that is to come). Which kinda sums up TDWPas appeal: what other band can shift so seamlessly from moments of visceral madness to spells of spiritual grace? 8:18 marked the swan song for founding band members Chris Rubey and Daniel Williams, and they certainly went out in style; the addition of some hardcore punk (aoBlack & Blue, a? aoNumber Elevena?) and straight metal (aoRumorsa?) ingredients to TDWPas melodic metalcore cauldron makes for a heady brew indeed. This sea blue pressing comes inside a gatefold with beautifully austere artwork plus an insert. A real artistic statement on every level.
