Songs for Sinners is an album about the push and pull of belief: running toward something, running away from it, and living in the charged space between the two. Throughout this LP — his second solo album and first in six years — Moses Boyd doesn’t preach or offer answers. Gospel is part of the language, but not the whole sentence. Musically, Songs for Sinners is as open-ended as its themes. It is gospel-influenced, but not in the traditional sense.
