Mudhoney’s Piece of Cake is a raw, swaggering blast of early ’90s grunge that captures the band at their most chaotic and self-assured. Released in 1992, the album leans into distorted guitars, sneering vocals, and a deliberately unpolished sound that feels both reckless and tightly controlled. Tracks bounce between sludgy punk energy and bluesy garage rock grooves, all driven by Mudhoney’s signature mix of sarcasm and grit. Lyrically, the record skewers excess, boredom, and cultural decay with a smirk rather than a sermon. Piece of Cake doesn’t chase mainstream appeal—instead, it revels in its rough edges, standing as a defiant, noisy snapshot of grunge before it was fully absorbed into the mainstream. Mudhoney’s Live! 1993–1998 captures the band at their loud, chaotic best, delivering raw, high-energy performances that highlight their punk roots. With buzzing guitars, pounding rhythms, and Mark Arm’s snarling vocals, the album embraces imperfections—feedback, crowd noise, and all. More than a polished live record, it’s a gritty snapshot of Mudhoney’s enduring attitude and unfiltered sound. UPC: 081227803100Label: RhinoRelease Date: 10.30.26Format: Vinyl
Mudhoney’s Tomorrow Hit Today finds the band stretching their sound without losing the grit that defines them. Released in 1998 and produced by Jim Dickinson, the album leans into a looser, more groove-driven approach, weaving in elements of blues, soul, and classic rock alongside their signature fuzzed-out guitars. The result is a warmer, more textured record that still carries Mudhoney’s trademark bite. There’s a laid-back, almost ramshackle feel to many of the tracks, as if the band is more interested in locking into a vibe than chasing pure volume. At the same time, moments of distortion and snarl cut through, reminding listeners of their garage-punk roots. Lyrically, the album balances wry humor with a slightly more reflective edge, giving it a depth that sets it apart from their earlier work.Tomorrow Hit Today may be one of Mudhoney’s most understated releases, but its blend of grit, groove, and experimentation makes it a compelling evolution of their sound. Mudhoney’s My Brother the Cow is a gritty, no-frills return to the band’s garage-punk roots, delivered with the swagger and irreverence that helped define the early grunge sound. Released in 1995, the album strips away much of the polish that had begun creeping into the genre, favoring instead thick, fuzz-drenched guitars, pounding rhythms, and Mudhoney’s trademark sneer. There’s a loose, almost reckless energy running throughout the record, as songs veer between snarling punk blasts and sludgy, mid-tempo grooves. Lyrically, it leans into absurdity and sarcasm, embracing a playful weirdness that keeps things unpredictable. My Brother the Cow doesn’t try to evolve grunge—it doubles down on its rawest instincts, delivering a loud, unapologetic statement from a band that never cared about fitting in. The seminal psych-rock classic The Evil One by Roky Erickson And The Aliens is reissued in a deluxe 15-track edition, restoring the original front cover from San Francisco's 415 Records release for the first time since 1981. Presented across two LPs cut at 45 rpm for maximum sonic depth and clarity, the release brings together the complete recordings from the legendary 1978 and 1979 sessions. The package includes a collector's booklet with liner notes by acclaimed Austin music journalist Joe Nick Patoski, who attended a recording session for The Evil One in 1979. Alongside rare photographs and archival images from the collection of Roky's then manager, Craig Luckin.Following his release from Rusk State Hospital in 1974, Erickson formed The Aliens and channelled his experiences and fascination with horror and science fiction into a singular new sound. Moving beyond the psychedelic garage blues of the 13th Floor Elevators, the band created harder, more ferocious rock built around jagged guitars, strange melodies and a propulsive rhythm section.Produced by Creedence Clearwater Revival bassist Stu Cook, The Evil One includes some of Erickson's most celebrated recordings, including 'Two Headed Dog', 'I Walked With A Zombie' and 'It's A Cold Night For Alligators'. Erickson's unmistakable voice and surreal lyrics, populated by zombies, demons, vampires and atomic monsters, gave the album a character unlike anything else in rock. Both the LP and CD editions feature rare photographs and images from the archive of Erickson's then manager and the sessions' executive producer, Craig Luckin. The Evil One has since become a landmark of cult rock, with it's songs covered by generations of artists and it's influence extending across punk, alternative and psychedelic music.

Todd Rundgren’s Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren builds on his early songwriting strengths with a stronger focus on melodic pop craftsmanship and introspective balladry. Released in 1971, the album blends soft rock, soul influences, and baroque pop textures, showcasing Rundgren’s ability to shift effortlessly between tender emotion and playful experimentation. The record features some of his most enduring early songs, balancing lush arrangements with stripped-down, intimate moments that highlight his vocal clarity and melodic instincts. While more cohesive and confident than his debut, it still carries a sense of exploration, hinting at the ambitious studio experiments that would soon define his career.Runt: The Ballad of Todd Rundgren stands as a key early statement from an artist quickly evolving into one of rock’s most inventive figures. Dark Side Of The Spoon was the seventh studio album by Industrial Metal band Ministry, released in 1999. It opens with Al Jourgensen screaming "I just shot a man to death" over grinding guitar riffs and an unrelenting, martial beat. Clearly, these godfathers of industrial rock showed no signs of mellowing as they entered their third decade of sonic terrorism. True to form, Ministry delivered cut after cut of manic alienation on Dark Side of the Spoon. Porno for Pyros’ Good God’s Urge is a darker, more atmospheric evolution of the band’s sound, blending alternative rock with touches of psychedelia, worldbeat, and introspective lyricism. Released in 1996, the album leans into moody textures and unconventional rhythms, creating a sense of unease that runs beneath its hypnotic grooves.Frontman Perry Farrell delivers cryptic, often surreal lyrics that explore themes of desire, spirituality, and disconnection, giving the record a haunting, almost meditative quality. Tracks shift between sparse, brooding arrangements and bursts of intensity, emphasizing mood over straightforward hooks.Good God’s Urge stands as a bold, experimental statement—less immediate than their debut, but richer and more immersive, revealing a band willing to push beyond expectations into stranger, more introspective territory. On Iconoclast HaHa, San Francisco four-piece Aluminum take the genre synthesis of their debut - equal parts shoegaze, big beat, and alt-pop - and raise the temperature to a boil. Songwriters and lead vocalists Marc Leyda and Ryann Gonsalves continue to strike a balance between pop catchiness and experimental abandon while infusing each song with spontaneity, immediacy, and post-punk tenacity. "We intended for this to be a more guitar-forward album," notes Leyda, "so we recorded through Marshall stacks to give it a heavier feel, and to get a faster, more punkish sound that will be massive and immersive in a live setting." Fittingly, the album comprises a set of electrifying, full-band studio performances from an inspired week with recording engineer Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden Studio in Oakland.Thematically, Gonsalves notes major inspiration from "the frustration of living within a societal system that sets you up for failure, always 'not being enough' or 'being too much', and all the anger, exhaustion, and pressure to comply." Reflecting on the confluence of mood, message, and maelstrom across Iconoclast HaHa, Leyda elaborates with his ultimate artistic question: "When it feels like the world is tipping toward devastation, you keep pushing and trying to make something powerful and meaningful, because what else can you do?"

In Dead Deities, SATANIC PLANET’s new album for Relapse Records, we see a band coming into its own while offering an aggressive, pitch-black, deeply surly call-to-arms against autocracy in the age of Christian nationalism. Lucien Greaves (The Satanic Temple co-founder and spokesperson), Luke Henshaw (Planet B, Sonido de la Frontera, First Power Crew, Variations In the Key of the Afterlife), Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Misfits, Mr. Bungle, Dead Cross), and Justin Pearson (The Locust, Swing Kids, Deaf Club) are now a fully together-in-the-studio band with razor-sharpened focus, creating a sound and lyrical catalog of ideas that Greaves says is both more personal and even closer aligned to the goals of The Satanic Temple, which through art, action, and activism seeks to “encourage benevolence and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practiced common sense, oppose injustice, and undertake noble pursuits.” The Satanic Temple and SATANIC PLANET are here to empower all those who are needed in the ongoing battle against theocracy, apathy, and inequality.
Dead Deities begins as a brooding, doomy soundscape with backwards ritualistic vocals that churn forward like a barbaric horror flick scene before launching into the aptly named “Antichrist,” with a hypnotic, screamy post-post-post-hardcore intro that melds into a slow, nasty, heavy vision of what pop music might sound like in Hell. This 11-track stygian brute of an album is a journey through modern dark music with tolling bells, blackened synth, diabolical noise interludes, drums as heavy as a mountain, and group vocals torn straight out of your best-worst nightmares.
The record’s first single, “Sam Alito’s Mom,” references the arch-conservative Supreme Court Justice known for his work in helping to overturn Roe v. Wade. The track is an all-out assault on an absolute piece of human dogshit with Greaves and Pearson’s vocals twisting around each other like cobras at a slow, growling pace of pure sunless devastation. This is music that has come from decades of in-the-trenches touring and experimentation, from Slayer to the Locust, Planet B’s avant-garde sci-fi hip-hop to Mr. Bungle’s bizarro metal orchestrations. In Dead Deities you feel this godless wave of collected history building up to birth a gruesome new monster.
In an age of regression, reversed social betterment, and the label “terrorist” slapped on anyone brave enough to oppose the men in power, this is protest music with bite and bark in lethal, equal doses. If the goal is us taking care of each in dangerous times, SATANIC PLANET has your back (while holding the gore-dripping, ripped-out spinal column of your enemy up to the blood-red sun). SATANIC PLANET’s Dead Deities is flag-burning, cross-toppling annihilation, all in the service of shaping a better, kinder, more livable world.

FILTH PIG is the sixth studio album by industrial metal band Ministry. Originally released in 1996, the title was allegedly derived from a statement made in the British Houses of Parliament, where bandleader Al Jourgensen was described as a filthy pig by MP Teddy Taylor. For FILTH PIG, Ministry stripped all synthesizers and most samples from their style and made the music almost entirely with ultra-noisy guitars, heavy bass, and real drums, giving it an almost Doom Metal feel. FILTH PIG was supported with the singles/videos 'Reload', 'The Fall', 'Lay Lady Lay' (a cover of Bob Dylan's old country-tinged hit) and 'Brick Windows'. Deluxe 2LP edition features rare single edits and B-sides. UPC: 081227802899Label: RhinoRelease Date: 10.30.26Format: Vinyl
For Kacy Lee Anderson, not giving a fuck's a good look, and if the glitter is gone, then you might as well wear it yourself. The Sasketchawan-bred singer's been around the block for long enough, and made enough records - mostly with her cousin Clayton Linthicum in their duo, Kacy & Clayton - to know both the bright and the ugly sides of the music industry all too well. Now 29, she's witnessed it change plenty since making her earliest recordings as a teenager. She sees the industry with a vantage denied to the latest crop of young musicians who've never known a world without streaming and short-form video; all they've known is desperately vying for virality, putting the utmost importance on even the most short-lived social media hegemony. But that's just not Anderson's style: she's making music because she's always loved it, and she's writing the songs she wants to hear, whether anyone else cares or not. With her new album, Hello, I'm Irrelevant, she seems to be winkingly encouraging us all to follow her lead: work fast and move on, and don't bother looking over your shoulder. "I mean, the whole time I just said to everyone, 'I don't care if anyone likes this at all,'" the singer says. "I didn't tell any single person I was doing it. So that made it feel just like I could do whatever I wanted, and I wasn't thinking about how it would be received, or even thinking I would put it out. So having that mindset was pretty nice. Goes to Hell finds Alice Cooper leaning fully into his dark, mischievous persona with a slicker, more conceptual edge. Released at the peak of his ’70s run, the album blends hard rock, glam, and theatrical storytelling into a twisted journey through temptation, excess, and damnation. Anchored by catchy hooks, glossy production, and Cooper’s unmistakable snarl, tracks like “Go to Hell” and “You Gotta Dance” balance menace with tongue-in-cheek humor. Less shock-rock chaos and more calculated spectacle, Goes to Hell is a stylish, underrated chapter in the Alice Cooper catalog—sinister, fun, and built for big speakers.
