This album features performances by Karl Cochran, who played guitar, Ed Terry who sang vocals and played keyboards, Paul Dileo who played bass (remember he played with Karl at the last several Joe Lynn Turner dates, and also has been touring with Nena of 99 Luftbaloons fame for years), and Bobby Marks on drums (he toured with Dokken summer of 2008). The album was mixed by Kevin Shirley of Caveman Productions in Malibu, California. This guy has worked with quite literally everybody, including Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith, Journey, Metallica, Black Crowes and many, many others. The album was mastered by Ted Jensen, the Chief Mastering Engineer of Sterling Sound in NYC. He's another guy who's worked with everybody including Kid Rock, Green Day, Nickleback, and many others. Karl and Ed started writing and collaborating on this album in 2007/2008, and the result is what is quite possibly the best work Karl has ever done to date. Anybody who has heard it has been absolutely blown away.

What are these glorious times? Who is in them? How long do they last? These are questions that the Museum's 3rd studio album leaves unasked. In the years which allowed or forced the creation of the Museum's 2nd album (2002-04), both the band and it's host country had "matured" into their differing expressions of a "War on Terror." With smoking ruin in the rear-view mirror, the band's big green bus turned to the long road, gathering strength the vast stretches (coming from the West) of tree and stone and moving water that separate the cities. As with the first album, there was a changing of the drum-guard in the 11th hour, with the fateful arrival of Matthias Bossi. Matthias helped to compose a single of sorts for the record, 'Phthisis,' which alone was produced at an incredible recording-compound in the Hollywood hills by Scott Humphrey, adding overdubs on a guitar owned by Mötley Crüe. The Cat's Miaow started in 1992 as a home-recording duo, Bart Cummings and Andrew Withycombe knocking out songs on Withycombe's four-track. Soon joined by Kerrie Bolton and Cam Smith, the quartet spent the next five years quietly, slowly working away in the suburbs of Melbourne. They've long been spoken-of in hushed tones in pop circles for their perfectly unadorned nuggets of gentle indiepop mastery, put to 4-track tape and drip-fed to the world a few decades back via 7"" singles, cassettes and compilation appearances.Following a pair of recent and *very* well-received compilations on the excellent World of Echo label, The Cat's Miaow were inspired to regroup to play some shows and begin working on new material. The result is ""When You Smiled And Turned Away,"" remarkably the band's debut studio album and happily some of their finest recordings yet. All the hallmarks of the band's classic sound remain intact: a fragile, warm melancholia built around Bart and Andrew's elegant, spare songwriting, the exuberant patter of Cam's brushed drums and the glow of Kerrie's celestial soprano vocal.Themes of self discovery, regret, yearning and loss continue to loom large but are buoyed by sprightly tempos and subtle splashes of phased guitars and oscillating synthesizers. Before the East Coast new-wave circuit had a map, The Shades were already driving it. Formed in Central New Jersey from the high-school group Nobody Special, the six-piece developed it's own songs while holding down four-set bar nights and carrying them to the Hot Club, City Gardens, the 9:30 Club, the Rat and Bookies. They shared stages with the Mumps and, in September 1979, The Police. Between 1978 and 1980, sound engineer John DeMarzo captured The Shades in the Evans brothers' basement on a TEAC quarter-inch four-track machine. Basement Sessions 1978-1980 gathers nineteen of those previously unreleased demos, then adds both sides of the band's 1979 Go-Go single, ""Hello Mr. Johnson"" b/w ""Are You My Angel?,"" originally distributed in Britain through Rough Trade. Four-track tapes, six musicians and hooks enough to escape the basement. Liner notes by David M. Snyder. Remastered by Prof. Stoned.
