  • the album cover for Spike Fuck - evidence [Oxblood]

Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Spike Fuck - evidence (LP, Oxblood) (New (N))

    Out of stock

For ten years Spike Fuck has existed more as a messy myth than an artist; sporadic works forever poised on the precipice of triumph, rumours of death or insanity and so on. Spike’s mission is to distill the sacred and profane, balancing the melancholy and humour of life; “to be alive is to be traumatized.” Luckily, the devotion to his music persevered, somewhat bolstered by his inconsistency and inaccessibility. This inexplicable goodwill towards his artistry is perhaps partly due to Spike’s timeless, pained and confessional lyricism, though more pointedly, the fragility of a life mired in addiction. His being or works does not question the virtue of life, but simply addresses the numb, pragmatic and far more immediate matter of surviving another day, an almost ineffable sentiment only justified by his distinct, poetic audaciousness. Free from his arresting thoughts, evidence, the long anticipated debut album, is a brazen proof of life statement. Convicted by the outlandish idea of evidencing a ‘you had to be there’ mentality, the record honours the presence in body, a record to be felt, never to be rationalized. The material on evidence touches on elements of new wave, glam, soul and doo-wop, citing Pere Ubu, New York Dolls, The Temptations and Bettye Swan as key influences. Melodically it emits the energy of a downand-out CBGBs band who cashes in by recording a lucrative Christmas album. Spike frequently uses sonic and lyrical juxtapositions to perform comic twists of sincerity, a reflection of society's obsession with ‘getting a rise’. On “Bored to Death,” a scuzzy, laidback and soulful tune, paired with morbid ragebait lyrics that payoff as a stand up joke “when I look up at the sun it makes me so happy cause I know one day it’s gonna kill me, and it’ll kill you too!” Lead single “All By Myself” carries on in this fashion; with feelgood, family-friendly punk doo-wop production, Spike is misleading on if his joy comes from the pride in solitude, or from loneliness and a ‘give me everything’ mentality in the act of shooting heroin. The vocal performances oscillate between being blasé, vulnerable and manic; “Sweet Release” meets power-ballad criteria solely due to Spike’s deteriorating cries into the void, the jittery delivery on “Getting Sober” embodies religious fanaticism while sounding like a pop song written by Suicide for a David Lynch film. evidence is an album that lives outside the limits of discourse; its purpose is eponymous and self-evident. It is what it is, and is subject to interpretation. There is no point in interrogating attachments, virtue or value. The only rightful way to live is to be.  Tracklist: CAN'T GET IT UP [4:38] HAD YOUR WAY [4:04] SWEET RELEASE [3:27] BORED TO DEATH [3:31] ALL BY MYSELF [2:38] GETTING SOBER [3:33] BLUE LIGHT [4:35] HATE ME [7:44] UPC: 840526512256Label: Sacred BonesRelease Date: 10.2.26Format: Vinyl

  • Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Karen Dalton - In My Own Time [Colored Vinyl] (Gate) (Org) (LP) (New (N))

    Out of stock

Karen Dalton's 1971 album, In My Own Time, stands as a true masterpiece by one of music's most mysterious, enigmatic, and enduringly influential artists.&nbsp. The newly expanded 20-page LP booklet-featuring rarely seen photos, liner notes from musician and writer Lenny Kaye, and contributions from Nick Cave and Devendra Banhart-rounds out the package. The Oklahoma-raised Karen Dalton (1937-1993) brought a range of influences to her work. As Lenny Kaye writes in the liner notes, one can hear the jazz of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, the immersion of Nina Simone, the Appalachian keen of Jean Ritchie, [and] the R&B and country that had to seep in as she made her way to New York. Armed with a long-necked banjo and a 12-stringed guitar, Dalton set herself apart from her peers with her distinctive, world-weary vocals. In the early 60s, she became a fixture in the Greenwich Village folk scene, interpreting traditional material, blues standards, and the songs of her contemporaries including Tim Hardin, Fred Neil, and Richard Tucker, whom she later married. Bob Dylan, meanwhile, was instantly taken with her artistry. My favorite singer in the place was Karen Dalton, he recalled in Chronicles: Volume One (Simon & Schuster, 2004). Karen had a voice like Billie Holiday and played the guitar like Jimmy Reed. Those who knew Dalton understood that she was not interested in bowing to the whims of the record industry. On stage, she rarely interacted with audience members. In the studio, she was equally as uncomfortable with the recording process. Her 1969 debut, It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best, reissued by Light in the Attic in 2009, was captured on the sly when Dalton assumed that she was rehearsing songs. When Woodstock co-promoter Michael Lang approached Dalton about recording a follow-up for his new imprint, Just Sunshine, she was dubious to say the least. The album would have to be made on her own terms, in her own time. That turned out to be a six-month period at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, NY. Producing the album was bassist Harvey Brooks, who played alongside Dalton on It's So Hard to Tell Who's Going To Love You The Best. Brooks, who prided himself on being simple, solid and supportive, understood Dalton's process but was also willing to offer gentle encouragement and challenge the artist to push her creative bounds. I tried to present her with a flexible situation, he told Kaye. I left the decisions to her, to determine the tempo, feel. She was very quiet, and I brought all of it to her; if she needed more, I'd present options. Everyone was sensitive to her. She was the leader. Dalton, who rarely performed her own compositions, selected a range of material to interpret-from traditionals like Katie Cruel and Same Old Man to Paul Butterfield's In My Own Dream and Richard Tucker's Are You Leaving For The Country. She also expanded upon her typical repertoire, peppering in such R&B hits as When a Man Loves a Woman and How Sweet It Is. In a departure from her previous LP, Dalton's new recording offered fuller, more pop-forward arrangements, featuring a slew of talented studio musicians. While 70s audiences may not have been ready for Dalton's music, a new generation was about to discover her work. In the decades following her death, many artists would name Karen Dalton as an influence including Lucinda Williams, Joanna Newsom, Nick Cave, Angel Olsen, Devendra Banhart, Sharon Van Etten, Courtney Barnett, and Adele. In the recently acclaimed film documentary Karen Dalton: In My Own Time, Cave muses on Dalton's unique appeal: There's a sort of demand made upon the listener, he explains. Whether you like it or not, you have to enter her world. And it's a despairing world. Peter Walker, who also appears in the film, elaborates on this idea: If she can feel a certain way in her music and play it in such a way that you feel that way, then that's really the most magical thing [one] can do. He adds, She had a deep and profound and loving soul... you can hear it in her music. Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Sleepwalkers - Almas Perdidas [Colored Vinyl] (Tan) (LP) (New (N))

More than two decades after releasing their debut album Can't Stop Rockin', San Diego's Chicano roots-rock veterans The Sleepwalkers return with Almas Perdidas, an eight-track record that showcases the evolving sound that has defined their musical journey for over 30 years. Released on Blind Owl Records, Almas Perdidas marks the label's first major 'Rock en Español' feature and introduces one of San Diego's longest-running Chicano rock bands to a wider audience. The Sleepwalkers blend roots rock, psychedelia, rockabilly, cumbia, and Chicano rock, reflecting the group's cultural identity and ever-changing sound. 'If anybody ever comes to our shows, they'll see that one minute we'll be playing a cumbia dance song, and then we'll switch it and do something that's Americana, or rockabilly, or even a country song,' Valenzuela says. Over the course of their career, The Sleepwalkers have shared stages with an impressive range of artists, including Poncho Sanchez, The Beat Farmers, Son Rope Pera, Rosie Flores, Ozomatli, and the Paladins. Featuring standout vocals from lead singer Johnny Valenzuela, and guitar work from Ritchie Orduño, Almas Perdidas honors the band's past while embracing the sounds that have continued to shape their artistic vision. Described by San Diego Troubadour as 'a blender with Los Lobos, Cowpunk à la the Blasters, and a dash of Texas roadhouse blues,' their newest album is a testament to the band's enduring sound while marking a new chapter in their career. Repressed on vinyl for the first time in 15 years. As conceptual as Xiu Xiu's fusion of post-punk, gamelan, synth pop, folk, and noise might seem, the group's music never feels overly cerebral or detached. On the contrary, it's usually brimming over with often contradictory emotions: love, hate, sex, violence, fear, and humor cling together so tightly in Jamie Stewart's songs that they can't be separated. Harsh and beautiful words and sounds remain intertwined on La Foret, which ranks among Xiu Xiu's subtlest, and scariest, albums. • the album cover for Richard Thompson - Hippies Thugs & Heroes [Digipak]

Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Richard Thompson - Hippies Thugs & Heroes (CD, Digipak) (New (N))

    Out of stock

Sixty years into a career that began with Fairport Convention and has spanned decades as one of rock's most acclaimed singer-songwriters, Richard Thompson is still chasing surprise. On Hippies, Thugs and Heroes, he lets his subconscious take the wheel, pulling from a cast of old friends, false gurus, former selves, and invented characters who insisted on having their stories told. The result is an album that refuses to sit still. It opens with the bright, Byrds-inspired jangle of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" — a song rooted in Thompson's own history with 1970s spiritual movements and the complicated pull of charismatic leaders — before swinging into the rowdy "Everybody's Stealing" and landing on the bluesy closer "Stringer." Along the way, "Cocaine Walking, Booze Talking" delivers some of his most inventive guitar work yet, a raw-nerve build into a splintered, psychedelic solo that captures a hardscrabble cast of London strivers and connivers.Recorded live with his longtime band — Taras Prodaniuk on bass, Michael Jerome on drums, David Mansfield on guitar and fiddle, and wife Zara Phillips on backing vocals — at Hobosound Studio in Weehawken, NJ, the sessions moved fast, often in just two to four takes. But the songwriting itself runs deep: more elaborate home demos gave Thompson's own musical identity a stronger hold on the final record, resulting in an album he describes as "less them and more me."What emerges is a spiritual inquiry disguised as a rock record — a meditation on the towers we build and the ruin that follows when we invest in them too completely. Thompson doesn't fully understand every song here, and that's exactly the point. Hippies, Thugs and Heroes is proof that after sixty years, the joy of not knowing where a song will take you hasn't faded one bit. • the album cover for Judiciary - Stalagmite Angels

Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Judiciary - Stalagmite Angels (CD) (New (N))

    Out of stock

While the sterile “professionalism” of some heavy bands can be like a clinical drone strike, Texas-based Judiciary feels personal. Like close combat with a knife. And it’s all in their chemistry. Judiciary is an amalgamation of four guys raised in the intersection of metal and hardcore—all devoted to pushing their craft further. Across two esteemed LPs, the band has proven their worth as a crucial entity in the crowded heavy music scene by evolving their sound further and further with each release. And now with the band’s latest Stalagmite Angels, due on September 4th via the venerable Closed Casket Activities, Judiciary can further showcase their status as a crucial, one-of-a-kind part of the evolution of hardcore in 2026. Life changes can bring about chaos and seismic shifts, but if Stalagmite Angels is any indication, then it’s all for the better. In the wake of the release of Judiciary’s second LP Flesh + Blood, the band called upon Juan Vazquez to pick up guitar duties, thereby changing the internal framework of the band for good, and unknowingly for the better. It’s this pivot in personnel that resulted in the band’s latest EP. “The goal with this EP was a hard reset, but we also wanted to chill the f— out a bit, have fun, and do something that felt true to the four of us,” recalls drummer Austin Looney. “We wanted time to reconfigure things and let the music come naturally–temper this new mindset that we've adopted post-Flesh + Blood.” Judiciary’s greatest strength lies in their musical singularity. Though Stalagmite Angels represents the collision of influences from across well-worn territories like metallic hardcore, death metal, black metal, d-beat and more, it’s the Lubbock-born band’s approach that makes it distinctly their own. Stalagmite Angels is a wholly new document that resembles a horde of bands ranging from Hatebreed to Carcass to Slayer to Iron Age, yet never aping any single band nor even revealing any single influence. It’s all familiar but none of it is specific. “90s hardcore and hardcore in general is always gonna be our natural inclination, but it manifests with different elements not only from song to song but within each song,” says vocalist Jake Collinson emphatically, who learned guitar specifically to help with writing new material. “Whether that’s Dying Breed or Cannibal Corpse or Crowbar or Machine Head or any number of other influences that any one of us may have, it all manifests in our work, and through our individual and collective lenses. With this EP, we transformed those ideas into the Judiciary approach.” Stalagmite Angels is an EP about anger at the world, belief in yourself, and how harnessing both in the pursuit of growth is necessary to achieve. But furthermore, it’s a concept record that envisions a subterranean world in both a literal and metaphorical sense—where hidden beauty lurks in the shadows (and in the eye of the beholder) and where triumph manifests in the ability to rise from the depths and into the world above. The concept, according to Collinson, comes from inspiration in films like The Descent, but also from harsh noise and even the music of artists from across the band’s spectrum of influences, like Hank Williams and Peso Pluma. Engineered and produced by Phil Odom at Bad Wolf Recording Studios in Austin and mixed and mastered by Will Putney, Stalagmite Angels was written across the several locations that Judiciary calls home and then synthesized live as a group prior to production. ?Recorded with producer Stephen Street (The Smiths, The Cranberries), Happiness In Magazines is Graham Coxon's fifth solo album. His most successful solo venture up to that point, Happiness In Magazines went top 20 in the UK album charts and earned the guitarist the Best Solo Artist prize at the 2005 NME Awards. Spearheaded by 'Bittersweet Bundle Of Misery's note-perfect pop and the riotous, Skids-like 'Freakin' Out', it plugged him into a lineage of classic power pop, UK punk and '60s songwriting. ""'Bittersweet Bundle Of Misery' and 'Freakin' Out' were two of the first things I wrote,"" recalls Graham. ""I remember thinking, Oh, actually, maybe my songwriting is getting a bit better? Maybe I should take this seriously and not be such a control freak? Stephen just got it. Left To Suffer are one of modern heavy music’s most visceral acts, a band that hits with the force of a wrecking ball and the precision of a scalpel. Their sound lives at the collision point of pit-starting brutality and haunting melody, built for listeners who want their catharsis loud, physical, and uncompromising. From pulverizing breakdowns to eerie atmospheric tension, Left To Suffer have carved out a lane entirely their own. One where rage and vulnerability coexist in the same breath, anchored by sharp songwriting, massive low-end weight, and hooks that land like aftershocks.Left To Suffer aren’t chasing trends. Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Son Volt - Sound Signal Serenades (LP) (New (N))

    Out of stock

Son Volt’s latest album, Sound Signal Serenades, was first released as a Record Store Day exclusive. Featuring twelve originals, Son Volt return to the elemental strengths that have long defined their sound—restless guitars, melodic clarity, and songs rooted in the lived experience of American landscapes. Anchored by Jay Farrar’s steady, unvarnished voice, the record balances reflection and resolve, drawing lines between personal memory and the wider currents of history, change, and endurance. The songs move fluidly between stripped-down intimacy and full-band drive, blending folk-rock, country, and electric grit with the confidence of a band that knows exactly who they are. There’s a sense of forward motion throughout the album—never nostalgic for its own sake, but deeply aware of where it’s been. Lyrically, Farrar explores themes of connection, resilience, and place, finding meaning in both the ordinary and the unsettled. This album stands as another chapter in Son Volt’s enduring catalog: honest, grounded, and quietly powerful, reaffirming their role as one of America’s most consistent and thoughtful rock bands. The two biggest constants throughout Xiu Xiu's catalog are honesty and evolution. This remains true with Dear God, I Hate Myself as it delivers a look at responsibility, fear, healing, and societal roles wrapped in rich gothic pop music. The sound is still distinctly Xiu Xiu, but Jamie Stewart's vocals are finally effortless paired with vibrant melodies full of subtlety and the distinct sonic accents expected of this anticipated Xiu Xiu release. The result is a record that proves that art can be pop and pop can challenge you to look inside yourself. Each new Xiu Xiu release has evolved alongside the lives of Jamie Stewart and company. On this record you'll find more intensity and introspection than ever before, but sonically and lyrically it continues to move forward with a subtly new perspective ' hyper-focused yet aware of a larger, external picture unfolding. The pace of the record grips you, the music offers layers of detail, and the themes focus on not just the past or stark present but hint towards vespers of the future as well. Dear God, I Hate Myself will challenge you and force you to look inside yourself, but only after you get lost in the music. It's passionate, it's energetic, and it affects you. Dear God, I Hate Myself is a beautiful piece of humanist art. It's an important addition to the growing body of intelligent music from Xiu Xiu. Arriving in 2002, Graham Coxon's fourth solo album presented an audible stepping up of both the guitarist's songwriting and arranging skills. 'Baby You're out of My Mind's deft fingerpicking nodded to early Bob Dylan, 'Locked Doors' grooved along a loose R&B boogie, while 'It Ain't No Lie's pared-back riffs were cut from a similar cloth to then newly emerging duo The White Stripes. Less of a DIY affair than it's predecessors the album features pedal steel player B.J. Cole and Louis Vause on keyboards, whhelped to fully flesh out the eclectic fare on offer. ""I felt free to do whatever I wanted to do. Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Actor - Best Of (LP) (New (N))

Hamilton's Actor (fka Mister Rabbit) return with The Best Of, an album that trades the pastoral Americana of their previous releases for a set of crunchy, feedback-laden epics indebted to genre demarcations as varied as 1990s alternative rock, power pop, and contemporary alt-country. Earworm riffs delivered by careening guitars and impassioned, full-throated vocals hooks augment deceptively thorny arrangements and heartfelt lyricism; the album sounds like the band in a room, but glued together and rendered in glassy clarity by an expertly high-fidelity production. Though a sophomore album on paper, it feels like a group starting fresh, arriving reinvented but fully-formed with a stellar collection of material poised to propel them to greater heights. The album arrives September 25 via Having Fun / We Are Busy Bodies. The Best Of was recorded with producer Matt Snell and engineer Sean Pearson at Boxcar Sound. The band - made up of Jeff van Helvoort (guitar, vocals), Sean Smith (bass, vocals), Mitch Clark (guitar, vocals), and former member Ryan Mickeloff (drums) - set up in the studio's loft space as if playing a gig, it's tall ceilings and open concept allowing them to replicate their cavernous live sound with ease. Before hitting the studio, the band spent an extensive period honing their material through rehearsals and demos, arriving at the studio a well-oiled machine. Due to this, they tracked with minimal overdubs, preferring to be as truthful to the performances as possible. The mix reinforces this approach, augmenting their takes into something larger than life but still grounded in a gritty, off-the-floor feel. Dis Fig, producer and vocalist Felicia Chen, embraces every facet of heaviness. Chen is driven by a desire to express deeper emotions through meticulously crafted, innovative production and expressive vocals. On acclaimed collaborations with The Bug, The Body, and Asian Dope Boys, Chen's sound is indelible. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands is an ambitious widening of Dis Fig's scope, traversing tectonic dynamic shifts and heartrending arrangements in a filmic study of humanity's capacity to create both beauty and devastation. No stranger to extremes, Dis Fig finds new, exciting combinations and balances to expand their form and shape the sound of their new record. The opening of ""Psaltery"" employs the titular instrument in pensive plucks along with mechanical clinking and tentative murmurs before giving way to an increasingly potent kick pattern and shrieks bent by distortion. The album crests around the massive crescendos of ""The Snake You Built"" featuring The Body collaborator Lee Buford and BIG BRAVE's Liam Andrews. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands is structured as scenes; in each, Chen reckons with the capacity of humans for destructive tragedies and revelatory marvels alike. Chen's voice intones an insatiable, searching quality as electronics burble and settle in fits, while featured artist the wind between acts as a narrator, setting the stage.Dis Fig has a preternatural ability to ground massive sounds with tactile rhythms and her instinctually connective voice. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands charts a cinematic arc exploring a complex web of feeling with extraordinary purpose and focus. Chen's curiosity unearths ecstatic and absorbing environments. The album is a staggering display of innovative songcraft and unfathomable emotion-a musical world like no other.
