In 2008, Hot Chip released Made In The Dark, wild pop record that refused to sit still. Comprised of Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley and Greg Ridley, they released their debut album 'As Safe As Yesterday Is' on Andrew Loog Oldham's legendary Immediate Records on 1 August 1969. A UK chart hit LP featuring a ground-breaking blend of heavy blues, hard rock, pastoral folk and acoustic songs. The original album was blighted by poor sound quality when the master tape meant to cut the LP was lost. With no time to create a new master, a much-played and worn listening tape was substituted, resulting in a dull, muffled sound. The band were horrified when they heard the album played on the radio but to make matters worse, six months after release, Immediate Records went into liquidation and the LP disappeared from record stores. Later reissues (including CD's) were dubbed from old vinyl LPs with even poorer sound quality - until now! After years of searching, safety master tapes were found in New York which meant the very best sound could be achieved. No longer horrified, Peter Frampton and Jerry Shirley can at last say 'As Safe As Yesterday Is' "sounds fabulous!" 1969 rarity finally remastered! Humble Pie's critically acclaimed second album 'Town And Country' was all set to launch the band into superstardom when their label Immediate Records suddenly collapsed, taking the LP out of UK record shops just four months after going on sale. In the USA, the LP was not even released. 'Town And Country' was released barely three months after 'As Safe As Yesterday Is' to capitalise on the debut LP's Top 30 success, a No. 4 hit single and huge media coverage by journalists fascinated by the new "supergroup" formed by Steve Marriott, Peter Frampton, Jerry Shirley and Greg Ridley. But the real reason for Immediate putting the new LP out so soon was the label's cash flow problems. New product meant much-needed income while Humble Pie wowed crowds on a two-month US tour. Luckily, the band had recorded over two albums worth of material, enabling 'Town And Country' to be rush-released on 7 November 1969. The music press welcomed the LP as "an unqualified success!" and praised it's more personal, striped-back sound. While success was cruelly halted (albeit temporally) in America and the UK as Immediate fell into liquidation, Humble Pie soon became one of the best-loved, best-selling and hardest-rocking bands of the 1970s with new label A&M. The newly mastered LP sounds incredible and reproduces the original Hipgnosis designed sleeve and rare inner lyric bag plus adds a fully illustrated 4-panel insert. The newly remastered CD adds six outtakes including the previously unreleased 'Greg's Tune' and their epic cover of Ray Charles' 'I'll Drown In My Own Tears' as recorded at Magdalen Laver Village Hall in Essex on 10 July 1969.
