Joyce Manor are California pop-punk legends and I Used To Go To This Bar is this epochal band operating at the top of their game. They continue to deliver relentlessly satisfying rock music in a manner that makes it look simply effortless. The Torrance, California-hailing trio of Barry Johnson, Chase Knobbe, and Matt Ebert are at a point in their career where their position as one of the most beloved rock bands is a foregone conclusion. Their seventh album finds the group continuing to find rich new veins to tap in their short-and-sweet songcraft without losing an ounce of bite that gained them such repute in the first place. I Used To Go To This Bar further situates Joyce Manor in the rich lineage of their influences and inspirations. Think AFI's rapid-fire burn, Weezer's indelible power-pop acumen, and the dusky emotionalism of the Smiths while further establishing them as leading lights in the current rock landscape. The fresh burst of inspiration that fuels I Used To Go To This Bar proves that Joyce Manor are far from content to rest on such laurels, moving forward with their sound and style in a way that reminds you of how they got to this point in the first place. Catch them live at Coachella 2026.

Joyce Manor was conceived in the back of a car in the Disneyland parking lot the kind of beginning California dreams are made of. It was the fall of 2008, and over a bottle co-founders Barry Johnson (guitar, vocals) and Chase Knobbe (guitar) decided to team up under the moniker Joyce Manor, named after an apartment complex Barry walked past every day.

Julia, the debut album from Julia Cumming, embodies the joy and freedom that comes from embracing one's true self. An NYC native, Julia has spent the last decade fronting Sunflower Bean and serving as the muse of campaigns for the likes of YSL and DKNY. While these details could easily cast a 'too cool' persona, the record reveals something much more earnest, timeless and personal. Julia is able to pay homage to the glamour of the performer and the heart of the songwriter simultaneously.

It was a difficult time for me when I started working on this album. I had just uprooted myself from the city apartment building where I'd been living for twenty years to a house in a more rural town two hours away where I knew no one when one of my best friends died ("Ashes"), and then my dog died ("Constant Companion"), then my mother was diagnosed with esophagus cancer ("Scratchers"). I was pretty depressed for a solid year ("Long Slow Nervous Breakdown") and lost and very lonely ("Harmonizing With Myself"). I was thinking about fate and circumstance and about how I'd ended up where I was ("Where Are You Now"). However much or hard I try, it seems, I've never had much control over much in my life. I should say here that my mother's younger brother was struck and killed by lighting at the age of 16 and when I asked her how this affected her worldview, she told me that it made her believe that there is a predetermined plan for each of us.With this album I was contemplating these ideas-fate, powerlessness ("Popsicle"), the effects of trauma ("Wouldn't Change Anything," "Fall Apart"," Strong Too Long"), the ways we can't and don't change.I hold on to humility and gratitude (most of the time) rather than (constant) bitterness, and I have hope, mostly in the form of the music that I make, even if it's subject matter is sometimes kind of grim. This practice of putting songs together has always sustained me and given my life-as uncontrollable as it feels- meaning and purpose, even in the darkest times. "Lighting Might Strike" is largely about that; the music itself is pulling me out of a big hole ("All I've Got") in real time, in the time it took me to make the album.Chris Anzalone played and recorded all the drums from Arlington, Massachusetts. Ed Valauskas played and recorded most of the bass from Cambridge, MA. I did the bass on a few songs, plus all the guitars, keyboards, vocals, and percussion, in my house ("My House Is Not My Dream House") in western MA. The talented Pat DiCenso then mixed and mastered it all. The whole thing took about two years-broken up in pieces and chunks (I went on tour for six weeks last autumn, etc.) - to complete. -Juliana Hatfield

Los Angeles band and art collective julie announces their highly-awaited debut album my anti-aircraft friend. Julie exploded onto the map in 2020 with their single "flutter," which has racked up millions of streams since it's release. The band's genesis, however, goes back to the late 2010s when vocalist and guitarist Keyan Pourzand and drummer Dillon Lee were joined by vocalist and bassist Alexandria Elizabeth. Holding a mutual affinity towards shadowy and adventurous music, the trio played shows with local acts around Orange County in high school before relocating to Los Angeles in 2019 for design school, where they began writing the songs that would make up their impending debut album my anti-aircraft friend. In 2021, julie released their EP pushing daisies, which includes the tracks "skipping tiles" and "april's-bloom" and proceeded their 2022 double single "pg.4 picture of three hedges" / "through your window." my anti-aircraft friend is a bold leap, both showcasing a louder, more assured band, while also attaining a core sound the band had been chasing all along. After all those years tinkering and refining their sound, julie's forthcoming debut album is the work of people who have become steeped in alternative music's history, learned how it works within their own musical sensibilities, and now use it to warp conventions and turn tropes on their head. Additionally, with each member of the band a multidisciplinary artist - Pourzand does sculpture work and Brady writes and paints, while Lee is also a painter as well as illustrator - the band deliberates and conceives every element of their releases, not just the music but the art and packaging, all the way down to what instruments they play onstage. For listeners who came of age amidst global pandemics, tumultuous political climates, and a host of looming natural and social crises, the sound of a band like julie could equally be a cathartic escape, or a shelter in which to locate a better sense of self-acceptance in a precarious world.

As the follow-up to their show-stopping UK Top 20 album 'Promised Land', The Karma Effect arrive with their third record, 'Cruel Intentions' - and it's the most complete, crystal-clear realisation of their ambitions yet: leaner, louder, heavier, and joyously larger-than-life. Exploring love, lust, and danger with dark passion and flashes of sass, the songs deliver swagger and wit in abundance. The band's modus operandi is "modern vintage", a desire to Polish up the retro sounds they were raised on into a gleaming, modern bundle of groove and energy."We've thrown everything at this album," says singer Henry Gottelier. "We've worked with Producer, Michael Charman again but also brought in Romesh Dodangoda to mix it; to make every note count, bringing a stadium sound to your ears.". Digipak.

Syrian-Armenian-American singer and producer KARYYN returns with her highly anticipated second album, PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE (PULL), out via Mute. KARYYN creates music at the intersection of sound, spirit, and physics - sonic worlds that don't just describe emotion, they conduct it. PHYSICS UNIVERSAL LOVE LANGUAGE exemplifies this, with a title that encapsulates her lifelong endeavour to translate love into systems of energy and truth. At it's heart, PULL is a left of center pop album about courage: the courage to collapse, to love, to surrender, and to emerge. Sonically, PULL is crafted from KARYYN's voice, strings, modular synths, and gravitational beats, tuned to 432Hz - a frequency believed to support vibrational healing. Co-produced by KARYYN alongside Hudson Mohawke and James Ford, the record was further enriched by Marta Salogni's sensitive and immersive mix, Jacques Greene's melodic touch on 'FWD', and Joker's detailed mastering. The result is a meticulously crafted work that is both deeply personal and expansively communal. PULL is a bold, transcendent journey through KARYYN's own human revolution. It is about gravity. About the collapse and coherence that define human experience. It is, in every way, a gravitational pull toward the truth: a sonic architecture of love, rupture, and rebirth.

Acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Kathleen Edwards returns with her highly anticipated new album, Billionaire, August 22 on Dualtone Records. Evoking her debut, Failer, the new 10-song album is full of Edwards' trademark lyrical sharpness and unflinching observations and was produced by Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson.Celebrated as one of the forebears of modern alt-country and Americana music, Edwards is beloved by fans and fellow musicians, and praised by The New York Times for her, "droll, observant and unsparing tone that is all her own. In her best lines, Edwards has the conversational vernacular and emotional eloquence of a great short-story writer."Since debuting in 2003, Edwards has released five albums, including 2020's Total Freedom - her first after stepping away from music for almost a decade. Released to overwhelming acclaim with pieces at The New Yorker, The New York Times, Rolling Stone and more, Pitchfork called it, "a creative breakthrough, written solely for the thrill of discovery," while Rolling Stone declared it as, "devastatingly great." Most recently, Edwards released a covers EP featuring special guests Isbell, Bahamas and Daniel Tashian and including renditions of Isbell's "Traveling Alone," Bruce Springsteen's "Human Touch," The Flaming Lips' "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate," Tom Petty's "Crawling Back To You" and more. She has been nominated for multiple JUNO and Americana Awards and, in 2012, was awarded the SOCAN Songwriting Prize. UPC: 803020291027Label: Dualtone Music GroupRelease Date: 8.22.25Format: CD
Carve is the second full-length by Bay Area artist Kathryn Mohr. Written over the course of five years and recorded over several weeks in a rural singlewide in the Mojave Desert, the album centers on love experienced as a form of grief, not as an aftermath of loss, but as a condition of intimacy itself.Mohr describes Carve as an album about how memory exists outside the body, embedded in places and landscapes. It is shaped by her first return to the American Southwest since a childhood road trip at age five, and by the experience of moving through terrain that holds emotional weight long after it's origins fade. The record considers how intimacy feels after years of isolation, and what it takes to carve out a life that allows for trust, presence, and feeling rather than mere survival. The project took form after a difficult tour that ended in Joshua Tree. Mohr pointed her car into the desert and drove alone, crisscrossing the Mojave on dirt roads. Months later, she returned to record the album, working alone with an acoustic guitar, a field recorder, and limited supplies.Following that period, Mohr began to allow for intimacy and connection. The time she spent recording Carve in the desert did not create isolation so much as mirror it. Working alone out of an old, western-themed jail Airbnb, the physical enclosure reflected the emotional conditions under which much of the record had been written: distance, restraint, and long stretches of stillness. In that context, love was not experienced as escape, but as something inseparable from impermanence and the awareness of loss. This tension between connection and inevitability sits at the center of Carve. Some of the album's songs were written earlier, during a prolonged period marked by emotional distance and apathy. Over those four years, Mohr was working through unprocessed childhood memories and their long-term effects on her ability to connect with others. The work was slow and difficult, involving a fundamental reshaping of how she related to herself and to the world.Carve was mixed by Richard Chowenhill of Flenser labelmates Agriculture. Rather than offering resolution, the album documents the act of remaining present within tension. Carve is not about escaping grief, but about accepting it as inseparable from love itself.

For Kevin Morby, the “little wide open” is the big sky, the small lives, it’s his origins in the Midwest, and every duty and modesty and familiarity and isolation: the land, the people, and the parts of that inside him. “There’s something unintentionally musical about the Midwest; cicadas chirping in the trees, a train passing, a tornado siren going off,” explains Morby. “If you listen, there are these almost ominous sounds taking place beneath the wide-open sky—its ugliness and its beauty and how the two are often working together simultaneously. And while the Midwest isn’t technically the badlands, it’s my badlands.”Little Wide Open is the title of Kevin Morby’s eighth studio album, produced by Aaron Dessner. In the summer of 2024, Dessner had asked Morby to support The National at their London show in Crystal Palace Park. Shortly after, Dessner—who was on a hot streak, having produced albums for Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, and Gracie Abrams—reached out to Morby to say he’d love to produce his next album. They began recording at Aaron’s Long Pond Studio in Stuyvesant, NY, early in 2025 and finished in September of that year. The album, which features a host of contributors such as Dessner—who plays multiple instruments across it—Amelia Meath, Andrew Barr, Justin Vernon, Katie Gavin, Lucinda Williams, Meg Duffy, and more, has been described by Morby as the third in a trilogy of releases, following 2020’s Sundowner and 2022’s This Is a Photograph, which catalogued his time in the Midwest after moving back to Kansas City. This time out, Dessner’s production elevates Morby’s recordings while never losing focus of the songs themselves. There’s a newfound confidence and clarity in both Morby’s writing and Dessner’s production that recalls Tom Petty’s 1994 classic Wildflowers. Now primarily living in LA, the atmosphere that runs through Little Wide Open has changed somewhat from its predecessors. As Rachel Kushner writes of Morby in the album’s accompanying essay: “It’s about time, about feeling like he has shifted from nostalgia and the losing game, losing but beautiful, of holding onto the past. He has accepted that time is ceaselessly flowing, and you can’t stop it. Instead, he feels like he’s riding it. He’s riding passenger with time.”

Khruangbin’s fourth studio album, A La Sala (“To the Room” inSpanish), is an exercise in returning in order to go further, anddoing so on your own terms. It continues the mystery and sanctitythat is the key to how bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, drummer Donald“DJ” Johnson, Jr. and guitarist Mark “Marko” Speer approach music. If 2020’s Mordechai, the last studio LP Khruangbin made withoutcollaborators, was a party record that enhanced the band’s musicalreputation far and wide, then A La Sala is the measured morningafter. It’s a gorgeously airy record completed only in the companyof the group’s longtime engineer Steve Christensen, with minimaloverdubs. It’s a window onto the bounties powering Khruangbin’svision, a reimagining and refueling for the long haul ahead. A LaSala scales Khruangbin down to scale up, a creative strategy withthe future in mind. The trio’s collective musical DNA, the years spent constructing itin Houston’s local-meets-global cultural stew, ensures the bandcontinues to sound like no one but itself. A cascade of crispmelodies emanates from Marko’s reverb-heavy electric, dancinggently around Laura Lee’s minimalist almost-dub bass triangles, while DJ’s drums serve as the tightened-up pocket and unwaveringdance-floor on which all this movement takes place. Yet there’s afreshness to A La Sala’s instrumental interactivity, less concernedwith getting further out than going deeper in, a profound desire tocelebrate the world’s external wonders. Where prior albums strivedtowards music’s polyglot edges, such inquiries now sound likebeloved intimacies. Here, Khruangbin’s sonic touch-points —whether spaghetti-western film scores (on “Fifteen Fifty-Three”),West African discos (on “Pon Pón”), G-funk fantasias (“TodavíaViva”), living room dancing moments (the first single, “A LoveInternational”), or even ambient found-sounds (on “Farolim deFelgueiras and throughout the album”) — are ingrainedcharacteristics. This is who they are! Unique and huge (andgrowing), ambitious and driven. Khruangbin’s aspirations and commitment to playful creativityeven extends to A La Sala’s vinyl packages, of which there will beseven distinctive covers and color-sets. Designed by the bandusing Marko’s multitude of travelog photos, the images arewindows from the band’s living room onto a set of daydreams, scenes of impossible skies, external glances that illuminate what isgoing on inside. Each cover image comes with a matching colorvinyl. These too are all about looking out and looking back, in orderto better look ahead.

Formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums; globetrotting Texan trio Khruangbin present their second album ‘Con Todo El Mundo’, set for release on 26th January 2018. Whereas their 2015 debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was influenced by 60s and 70s Thai cassettes and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock and funk, ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ hops east over India to take inspiration in similarly under discovered funk and soul sounds of the Middle-East, particularly from Iran. Laura Lee explains the album’s title: “My grandpa would always ask me ‘Como me quieres?’ (‘how much do you love me’?), and he’d only ever accept one response. ‘Con todo el mundo’ (With all the world).” Throughout ‘Con Todo El Mundo’, Laura Lee’s melodic low-end theory, Mark’s lyrical, free-role guitar lines, and DJ’s ever-steady, ever-ready backbeat form something greater than their parts. A vibe-synchronous soul-unit travelling the planet, honing their craft, absorbing the sights, sounds and feels from cultures across the globe, processing them through the Khruangbin filter and gifting the result...with all the world.

Khruangbin has always been multilingual, weaving far-flung musical languages like East Asian surf-rock, Persian funk, and Jamaican dub into mellifluous harmony. But on its third album, it’s finally speaking out loud. Mordechai features vocals prominently on nearly every song, a first for the mostly instrumental band. It’s a shift that rewards the risk, reorienting Khruangbin’s transportive sound toward a new sense of emotional directness, without losing the spirit of nomadic wandering that’s always defined it. And it all started with them coming home.

"Two of the acts boldly leading Texas music into the future have now delivered a second chapter of their groundbreaking collaboration, further extending the region’s sonic possibilities. Singer/songwriter Leon Bridges, from Ft. Worth, and trailblazing Houston trio Khruangbin have joined forces for the Texas Moon EP, a follow-up to 2020’s acclaimed Texas Sun project. While the five new songs are clearly a continuation of the first EP, they also have an identity all their own—Bridges calls it “more introspective,” while Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee says it “feels more night time.” When Texas Sun was released, AllMusic called the results “intoxicating” and Paste noted that “their talents and character go together so well.” Now comes the next stage—a set of songs that touch on themes like love, faith, and death while exploring new dimensions of inventive, hypnotic grooves. Significantly, both parties’ musical directions were clearly affected by their time working together. Khruangbin’s most recent album, Mordechai, moved their own vocals much further forward, a change they readily admit was a direct result of working with Bridges. Meanwhile, since these recordings began, in addition to his genre-defying album Gold-Digger’s Sound, Bridges has put out several other challenging, shared tracks, including work with John Mayer, Lucky Daye, and Jazmine Sullivan. Texas Moon represents a genuine and rare achievement, with two of the most respected and innovative acts of their generation truly collaborating to create something new. “As far as an essentially instrumental band, these guys are kind of the top for me,” says Bridges. “I’m honored to have been the first singer that they’ve incorporated in their music.” “It feels really special to me,” says Lee. “It’s not Khruangbin, it’s not Leon, it’s this world we created together."

Driving anywhere in Texas can cost you half a day, easy. For example, it'll take you over four hours just to get from R&B singer Leon Bridges' hometown of Fort Worth down to Houston, where the psychedelic wanderers in Khruangbin hail from. The state is vast, crisscrossed with rugged expanses of road flanked by limestone cliffs and granite mountains, forests of pine and mesquite, miles of desert or acres of sprawling grassland, all depending on what part you're in. And it's all baking under the Texas Sun that lends it's name to Bridges and Khruangbin's new collaborative EP. "Big sky country, that's what they call Texas," Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee says. "The horizon line goes all the way from one side to another without interruption. There's something really comforting about that." On Texas Sun, these two members of the state's musical vanguard meet up somewhere in the middle of that scene, in the mythical nexus of Texas' past, present, and future-a dreamy badlands where genres blur as seamlessly as the terrain. It calls equally to the cowboys boot-scooting at Billy Bob's in Fort Worth, the chopped-and-screwed hip-hop fans rattling slabs on the southside of Houston, the art-school kids dropping acid in Austin, the cross-cultural progeny who grew up on listening to both mariachi and post-hardcore out on the Mexican borders of El Paso. All of these things, overlapping in a multicolored melange, purple hues as vivid and unpredictable as one of the state's rightfully celebrated sunsets. A journey through homesick reminiscences, backseat romances, and late-night contemplations, the kind of record made for listening with the windows down and the road humming softly beneath you. Like the highways that inspired it, Texas Sun is guaranteed to get you where you're going-especially if you're in no particular hurry to get there. The eagerly anticipated second album from KillerStar. The debut received rave press reviews including 4 Star reviews in Mojo, The Times, RnR. This album features David Bowie's most trusted musicians Mike Garson, Earl Slick, Mark Plati. Along with the sublime harmonies of The Webb Sisters (David Gilmour, Leonard Cohen). They combine with band founders/songwriters Rob Fleming and James Sedge to deliver a captivating album described as "Art Rock with hooks". The album is a powerful, electrifying album, full of catchy hooks, killer melodies and ear worm sonic detail . The Bowie alumni bring shades of their old boss with them to an album that nonetheless belongs entirely to its own world. The Afterglow picks up where the first album left off while going further into the stratosphere.

Kim Gordon's third album, 'PLAY ME,' is distilled and immediate, expanding Gordon's sonic palette to include more melodic beats and the motorik drive of krautrock. "We wanted the songs to be short," Gordon says. "We wanted to do it really fast. It's more focused, and maybe more confident." The follow-up to 2024's Justin Raisen-produced, two-time Grammy-nominated 'The Collective' processes, in her inimitable way, the collateral damage of the billionaire class: the demolition of democracy, technocratic end-times fascism, the A.I.-fueled chill-vibes flattening of culture - where dark humor voices the absurdity of modern life. Despite it's frequent outward gaze, 'PLAY ME' is an interior record, one in which a heightened emotionality pulses through physical jams, rejecting definitive statements in favor of an inquisitiveness that keeps Gordon searching, ever in process.

Moo is the first wide release on my new label MUP! When I decided to make a new record, it only seemed right to go back to what brings me the most joy, which is, Rock & Roll music.
I got my Tascam 388 fixed, the same tape machine I had used to record my first album, King Tuff Was Dead. It had been sitting in my parent’s house in Vermont for the past 14 years, but I had finally dragged it out to LA.
I stopped caring if there were mistakes.
There’s not enough mistakes.
I played my old, blue, Gibson SG, Jazijoo, and she spewed mangled electrified gold.
For once, I sang and I didn’t hate my voice.
I played the drums badly and bounced them in mono to one track and it sounded like glorious shit.
I wish it sounded even worse.
Rock & Roll is the music of rodents and bugs. It should sound like it crept from a decrepit trashcan or a crypt or a toilet. It is not chill or vibey, autotuned or on the grid. It is not perfect, which is why it’s perfect. And I don’t care if it’s dead or alive, cool or uncool: when I hear it, and when I play it, as a chubby and balding 43 year old punk weirdo, I FEEL ENERGIZED.
All in all, MOO is a full circle moment. A return to form. A return to rock. A return to Vermont. A return to myself.
Reconnecting the dots. Restarting the engine. Plugging in the stack. Finally letting King Tuff be King. Fucking. Tuff. UPC: 732388020485Label: MupRelease Date: 3.27.26Format: CD
