Daniele Esposito (born 1976 in Naples, Italy) began playing electric bass at the age of 13 and switched to double bass at the age of 17. He studied the instrument with Aldo Vigorito, Furio di Castri and Gary Peacock, and has performed at numerous jazz festivals and toured Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Syria, Kosovo, Albania, Belgium and France. This is his first solo album, featuring his favourite instrument, the double bass, whose infinite possibilities and undeniable poetry he demonstrates. In 8 successive pieces, Daniele sketches out the sometimes vivid and more lascivious emotions offered by this instrument, whose limits have yet to be explored.

With this reflection on breathing as the most intimate human experience - one that connects people through language, movement and touch - Berlin-based jazz vocalist Esther Kaiser has dedicated her ninth album to 'Breathing'. Critics have described her as a 'voice artist','shaman of jazz', and a 'jazz poet'. Esther takes responsibility where she is. Her albums breathe and are politically and socially charged, as jazz has always been. With BREATHING, the vocalist and composer provides a glimpse into the heart of jazz. It breathes in what is, and it feels and exhales that which creates space for more understanding, tolerance, peace, and freedom. The interplay of lyrics and compositions by Esther Kaiser and pianist Alexander Wienand, alongside Kaiser's own works, interwoven with elements of spoken word, invites listeners to become part of the act of breathing itself. Take one pianist from Toulouse, the other from Liège, with their highly diverse influences and exceptional technique. Give them one of Europe's finest venues to play in. Bring to your ears the result of an instant connection between two established names on the Belgian, French and international jazz scene. Igor Gehenot began playing the piano at the age of 6. He entered the Maastricht Conservatory at 19. He then went on to perform as a sideman in a number of bands, before releasing two critically acclaimed albums of his own compositions on Igloo Records. Amaury Faye is one of the spearheads of the new generation of French jazzmen. The numerous awards he received between 2015 and 2017 confirm his reputation as an improviser and composer. He leads his own trio and released three albums of compositions including two in Hypnote Records's catalog: "Live in Brussels" and "Arise {suite}" in 2023. The meeting of these two exceptional pianists gave birth to an album in 2021 that they had the honor of presenting in the prestigious Salle Henri Leboeuf, in the heart of the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels. A suspended moment, now set in stone thanks to a Live album.

With Tarabesque, his powerful new album, Firas Zreik delivers his boldest and most visionary work to date. Fearlessly placing the kanun-the shimmering Mediterranean harp-at the center of a jazz quartet, a hybrid ensemble, and an Arab Takht ensemble, Zreik reimagines the instrument as both a rhythmic engine and melodic force. He builds a world of Maqam-driven melodies woven through rich harmonic and modal landscapes that feel fresh, organic, and defiantly new.Based in New York City, Zreik is a Palestinian composer and kanunist who recently received Grammy recognition as a songwriter and performer on Residente's award-winning album Las Letras Ya No Importan, and composed The Art of Kanun, a film music album commissioned by Universal Music Production France. He is an official showcase artist at WOMEX 2022, a MacDowell Fellow, and has performed at Lincoln Center, Joe's Pub, and The Jazz Gallery. With Tarabesque, Zreik signals the emergence of a new musical language-merging Tarab, the ecstatic listening state central to Arab musical traditions, with global influences to create a sound timeless, urgent, and entirely his own.

First documented together on 2018's "That's Right!," the musical relationship of virtuosic trumpeter Brad Goode and legendary saxophonist Ernie Watts goes back 8 years earlier when the two met on a stage together. Their vivid musical rapport immediately apparent, they've pursued yearly opportunities to tour ever since, each time exciting audiences with their high energy, tight-rope style improvisations within an ever-expanding collection of original compositions. "Live Your Dream" captures the quintet live at Madison Wisconsin's North Street Cabaret, where the rhythm section of drummer Adam Nussbaum, bassist Jay Anderson and the inventive pianist Adrean Farrugia propel the band through tunes contributed by each member, plus spacious quartet readings of "Someday My Prince Will Come," featuring Ernie, and Brad's feature on "Lover Man." "... brilliant talents, and along with an outstanding rhythm section, they have formed a superb ensemble; their music holds all kinds of opportunity for creativity and expansion." Thomas Cuniffe "Practically every possible sound explodes from Brad Goode's trumpet is full-throated melodic lines quickly are repeated by Ernie Watts on tenor; his passages equal and often extending Goode's solos and ideas." * When we open a jigsaw box, we see a pile of disparate pieces, each with their own identifying characteristics. To assemble, we need to understand the logic of the shapes and how they might fit together. Eventually we need to zoom out and consider the big picture. * On his Cuneiform debut, Antumbra Ensemble, guitarist / composer Henrik Olsson has assembled eight musical puzzles, each unique in form and function. * Olsson's approach references artists like Henry Threadgill's groundbreaking Very Very Circus band-a unit that remains instantly identifiable through labyrinthine structures-and Rock In Opposition artists, namely Henry Cow, who essentially made unpredictabilitly their vocabulary. * Antumbra Ensemble is a wild adventure that blends an ever-evolving palette with a strong penchant for deep, shifting grooves and melodies that are both varied and catchy. It is a puzzle you'll want to hear.

In 1953, Brazilian master guitarist Laurindo Almeida and altoist/flutist Bud Shank collaborated on their first LP for Richard Bock's Pacific Jazz label. Laurindo Almeida Quartet Featuring Bud Shank was a groundbreaking recording, blending American jazz with Brazilian samba for the first time, years before the advent of bossa nova. Almeida and Shank enjoyed such early success with the record that they reunited five years later for their second collaboration, Holiday in Brazil (alternatively titled Brazilliance, Vol. 2). Whereas Brazilliance, Vol. 1 was led by Almeida and focused on the traditional Brazilian influences, Vol. 2 allowed Shank room to contribute more of his signature silky soloing and energetic motifs. The vibe is almost as relaxed, but bristles with an adventurous energy and swing that serves Almeida's arrangements and solid guitar accompaniment perfectly. The session is immeasurably enhanced by the adept chops of bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Chuck Flores, while Dayton "Bones" Howe's warm and detailed recording brings forth every nuance of this inspired date. Like Barefoot Adventure (IMP6048/IMP6057 LP / IMP8330 SACD), Holiday in Brazil is a perfect summer jazz confection: light, soulful, and breezy. It goes down easy and satisfies deeply. Impex Records is proud to reintroduce this musically stunning and sonically superb "Holiday in Brazil." First Time on Analog-Sourced Hi-Rez SACD. Designed to Play on Standard CD Players, SACD Players & Other SACD-Capable Players. Mastered from the Original Analog Tape by Grammy Winner Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering.

In 15 years of presence on the Belgian jazz scene, Igor Gehenot has covered a lot of ground. After two piano duo albums and the birth of the funk project No Steam, he is releasing a deep new album. Between understated groove and melancholic lyricism, the pianist from Liège unveils intimate and luminous music, carried by the complicity of exceptional partners and by the sincere momentum of an artist who has reached full maturity. He is joined this time by a high-flying rhythm section. The emblematic Sal La Rocca, a long-time accomplice, holds the bass end. With the in-demand Italian Umberto Odone, they offer us all the virtues of jazz as a trio: a good balance between rhythm and groove, but in a meditative atmosphere, intimate.

Jimmy Scott's distinct high register, contralto voice has been heard in David Lynch's Twin Peaks, but had success in his own right as a jazz singer. The title track of this album underscores the singer's storytelling gift and vocal ability by evoking such intense emotion that listeners feel just as if not more invested. Scott's ability to give a tune the impact of a Shakespearean soliloquy eventually inspired Lou Reed to declare, "It's like seeing Hamlet or MacBeth all rolled up into a song."

Joachim Kühn has no interest in looking back. At over 80, he is more driven, productive, and fearless than ever-composing and improvising daily in a restless pursuit of freedom, growth, and renewal. On Joachim Kühn & Young Lions, this lifelong refusal to stagnate takes vibrant new form as Kühn surrounds himself with a new generation of outstanding musicians, writing fresh material specifically to challenge and inspire them. The result is music of striking intensity and openness, where experience meets youthful fire, structure dissolves into risk, and individuality fuels collective power. Young Lions is not a celebration of legacy, but a statement of the present: jazz as a living, forward-moving force, and Joachim Kühn as one of it's most uncompromising voices.

In July 1990, Johnny Griffin, the legendary tenor saxophonist known as The Little Giant, electrified Långvinkeln Jazz Club in Helsingborg, Sweden. Accompanied by Danish musicians Thomas Clausen, Mads Vinding, and Svend-Erik Norregård, Griffin delivered a joyful night of jazz as only he could do it. This previously unreleased 6-track live recording will be released on Storyville Records on June 5, 2026, as Johnny Griffin & Thomas Clausen's Trio - Live in Helsingborg 1990.Griffin, who rose to prominence in the 1950s through his work with Art Blakey, Thelonious Monk, and his own explosive small groups, was widely regarded as one of the fastest and most inventive tenor saxophonists in jazz. Playing a lot at Jazzhus Montmartre in the 60's, he settled in France but continued to be in high demand in Scandinavia and all over Europe. This release continues Storyville Records' longstanding tradition of documenting major American jazz artists during their European years.Bassist Mads Vinding, a longtime collaborator, recalls the experience: "Johnny Griffin - no one sounded like him. The sound, the ideas, the power, the timing, the energy, the sensitivity, the stamina... He made the whole band sound like one unit. (...) It was very intense and such a joy playing with him, as you can hear on this live recording from 1990. No safety net, no restrictions - just the pure pleasure of playing together, inventing things on the fly."Jazz historian Jan Olsson adds:"Johnny Griffin, or The Little Giant as he was called, was a great and highly individual soloist. And I still remember from this extraordinary evening that we could hardly stop him from playing when it was time to close and say goodbye. The main reason was that he had been playing with one of the finest trios you could find in Europe at that time."The album features expansive performances that stretch familiar standards and Griffin originals into thrilling, unpredictable territory. On Just Friends, Griffin's tenor soars over the trio's accompaniment, moving seamlessly from lyrical passages to blistering runs. Blue Monk finds him exploring Thelonious Monk's iconic blues theme with playful inventiveness and rhythmic drive, while All The Things You Are showcases his ability to reshape familiar melodies with elegance and swing. On the original Call It What You Wanna, you just hear the pure Johnny Griffin sound. Johnny Griffin & Thomas Clausen's Trio - Live in Helsingborg 1990 is a rare opportunity to experience Johnny Griffin at his peak backed by Thomas Clausen's trio. You can hear why Johnny Griffin loved to play in Scandinavia, how he loved to play with Thomas Clausen and why he was such a popular figure in Denmark and Sweden for 40 years. Whether it's his Japanese heritage, or his having lived in various culturally specific cities around America, it's no wonder that identity, landscapes and cultural influences reside so strongly in trumpeter Jun Iida's music. "Bellflower" is largely the reflection of his move 3 years ago from Seattle to New York, the music played, relationships made and the many roads traveled up to that time. With a band of new friends who developed this program of mostly originals over the course of a West Coast tour, Iida offers a nod to the resilience of Pittsburgh through the opener, "Rivers and Bridges." "Hotaru Nights," provides views of Japan, but it's groove is from the Texas-born sound of the late Roy Hargrove. "Marco the Phoenix" draws inspiration from the beloved anime One Piece, while "Chasing Peace" echoes the sophistication of a classic ballad while yielding something undefinably richer. "Bellflower" offers songs that are meant to move people and to be enjoyed, wrapped in a collage of sounds that only Iida's personal journey could furnish. "perfectly calibrated, beautiful, intelligent, and one simply allows oneself to be carried away, thinking that with this musician, we are certainly only at the beginning of delightful surprises."
