Following last year's release of Mama Terra's Chameleons (Live Interpretations of Herbie Hancock) and their acclaimed 2023 debut studio album The Summoned, Scotland's leading jazz ensemble return with a new album: Inner Space. Building on the musical themes and ambition of their debut, Inner Space explores both the reality and potential of the human condition, introducing new instrumentation to their remarkable sound. The album was recorded between the band's native Glasgow, Los Angeles, and Brooklyn, under the direction of leader, composer, and producer CAFOLLA, who was joined by Grammy-nominated co-producer and engineer Joel Hamilton. Alongside CAFOLLA (piano, Moog synthesisers, and Hammond organ) and long-time collaborator Konrad Wiszniewski (saxophones), the striking and inventive soprano voice of Rachel Lightbody has become a defining feature of Mama Terra's original take on spiritual jazz. Two tracks feature the iconic narration of Conrad Roberts, best known for his 1971 collaboration with Miles Davis. The album also features classical music stars The Ayoub Sisters as a guest string section throughout, while New York trumpeter Jeremy Pelt returns to guest on "The Observers." Together with an exceptional ensemble of players, they shape the Mama Terra vision: music for the eye of the storm, where fear, beauty, and stillness coexist. The result is a deep and ambitious nine-track contemporary jazz album.

Two of the most distinctive voices on the contemporary Danish jazz scene, chromatic harmonica player Mathias Heise and guitarist Pelle von Bulow, join forces on Repertoire, a duo album built on interplay, shared intuition, and a carefully selected body of songs spanning jazz standards, soul, pop, and contemporary material. The album will be released on August 7, 2026 via Storyville Records. At it's core, Repertoire reflects the long-standing musical familiarity between Heise and von Bulow. Working as equals in a stripped-down duo setting, the two musicians treat each piece as a flexible framework for improvisation rather than a fixed arrangement. The music unfolds in real time through dialogue, contrast, and a finely tuned sense of balance between structure and freedom. The repertoire draws from a wide range of jazz and pop standards. It includes So Tender by Keith Jarrett, Besame Mucho by Consuelo Velazquez, and Beatrice by Sam Rivers. From the pop and soul canon, the album features Overjoyed by Stevie Wonder, Rock with You by Rod Temperton, popularized by Michael Jackson, and One Day I'll Fly Away, alongside Angel Zoo by Danish band Phlake.Further repertoire threads include Velas, written by the great Brazilian composer and singer Ivan Lins. Always and Forever is part of the broader soul repertoire associated with Heatwave. The album closes with Bluesette, one of the defining compositions in the jazz harmonica tradition, also by Toots Thielemans, and a natural reference point for Heise's instrument.Mathias Heise has established himself internationally as one of the most original voices on the chromatic harmonica. In 2013, he won the Chromatic Harmonica World Championship, followed by the Danish Crown Prince Couple's Stardust Award in 2016 and the Ben Webster Prize in 2017. He was the first musician admitted to the Rhythmic Music Conservatory with chromatic harmonica as his main instrument, and has since released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including his 2023 Storyville quintet album, Mouth Games. Heise is a true virtuoso with a harmonic curiosity and stylistic openness. He can play anything!Guitarist Pelle von Bulow is an established figure on the Danish jazz scene. He is one of a generation of guitarists who are inspired by the legacy of Doug Raney, who lived in Copenhagen. Pelle von Bulow is also a virtuoso and has, among others, incorporated influences from legends such as George Benson as well as the Brazilian jazz guitar tradition. Coming from a family with a strong jazz tradition, Pelle von Bulow is the son of acclaimed alto saxophonist Christina von Bulow, and represents a younger generation of Danish jazz guitarists rooted in both tradition and contemporary expression.Repertoire shows how contemporary jazz continues to evolve through a new generation of musicians. Guitarist/Composer Matt Panayides makes a compelling SteepleChase debut with Present Echoes, a vibrant quartet session featuring tenor saxophonist Rich Perry, bassist Steve LaSpina, and drummer Mark Ferber. Written in the wake of drummer Anthony Pinciotti's passing, the album presents a full program of originals shaped by reflection, momentum and deep musical heritage. Panayides' writing blends modern harmonic motion with spacious grooves, while the band's interplay highlights each member's individuality-Perry's open, lyrical sound, LaSpina's agile virtuosity, and Ferber's dynamic palette. From the expansive 'Midwestern Skies' to the powerful suite like 'Resist' and a heartfelt reading of Wayne Shorter's 'House of Jade,' Present Echoes introduces a jazz' lead guitar with mature, distinctive voice and a quartet unified by purpose, sensitivity, and forward looking energy.'With a look back to classic Jazz guitar and a look forward to what awaits Jazz guitar, Matt Panayides provides the prism through which we may look in wonder.' Acid Jazz presents the second volume of their Jazz Sessions series with Everything's Peachy, the debut album from the Matt Berry Trio, featuring Matt Berry joined by band members Phill Scragg and Graham Mann. When not creating numerous indelible characters on screen, Matt Berry has forged a remarkable, diverse, and acclaimed career as a recording artist. Following the widely lauded Heard Noises (2025) and a collaboration album with KPM, Simplicity (2023), he returns in yet another musical guise as the leader of a studio-based, mid-century jazz-adjacent trio. Everything's Peachy is a 12-part instrumental suite inspired by "the Sky King" (American folk hero Richard "Beebo" Russell), who stole a large aircraft with no flight training, performed daring stunts and manoeuvres, and ultimately crashed to his own demise. The album takes it's name from his response to air traffic control. Conveying, in turn, the chaos, nostalgia, regret, and acceptance of Russell's maiden flight, it is an open, freeform, and flowing composition. Drawing influence from the electronic experiments of Miles Davis and the melancholy of Satie, it creates another moment of musical beauty from Matt's curious and ever-evolving musical mind.

Since Michael Dease's big band held their two-year monthly residency in Greenwich Village back in 2011, a lot has happened. That laboratory, where risk, refinement, and reflection forged the band's artistic identity, was the seed that needed to be returned to. Today's band, however, is not a reconstruction of that past, but a reimagining, channeling fresh vitality into the music while honoring the architectural rigor and improvisational daring that defined those earlier years. At the core is a dynamic ensemble of rising voices from Michigan State University, whose artistry and individuality bring urgency to this collection of music, featuring compositions by Dease, Gregg Hill and the classics, "Cherokee" and "Little Dave," from Dease's major influence, J.J. Johnson. "Return Trajectory" is not a direct return, but a continuation of the arc, guided by experience and propelled by the next generation. "Few artists possess Dease's breadth of capabilities rounded, resonant voicings create a distinctive sonic depth. Nothing feels ornamental or routine. The scope of preparatory work is unmistakable, and the outcome is remarkable." - PARIS MOVE

Boomtown is guitarist/composer Miles Okazaki's latest work for large ensemble. It follows on his Miniature America from 2024, which was described by Ethan Iverson as "meticulously assembled, absolutely a blast to listen to, and informed by a generous - even carefree - spirit." The idea for the new album came to Okazaki on a drive across Wyoming. Unlike much of his recent work with his band Trickster, which are often precise mechanical devices driven by intricate rhythms, Boomtown is filled with grand gestures - a journey that swings from desolate, pastoral beauty and tumultuous ruin that befit a western landscape. The music tells the story of an imaginary boomtown: the exhilaration of hopes and dreams, and it's collapse into destructive lawlessness and abandonment. To help conjure that duality of sublime and ominous, Okazaki assembled a collection of ten musicians: saxophonists Caroline Davis, Jon Irabagon, and Anna Webber, trombonists Jacob Garchik and Kalia Vandever, bassists Chris Tordini and Hannah Marks, pianist Matt Mitchell, drummer Dan Weiss and Okazaki on guitars. Together, they make music that is by turns filled with profound beauty and menacing dread.

Originally released in 1977, Moondog In Europe was visionary composer Louis Thomas Hardin's aka Moondog first release after moving from NYC to Germany. Regarded as reflecting the historicity of his new environment, the album is more structured and formal than most of his previous releases; however, his layered song-cycles are just as circular and experimental, and still backed by a fair amount of tribal percussion. "Viking I" opens the album with Moondog's solo celesta playing and retains the quirk and charm of his previous work before going into heavy pounding percussion that opens the nearly five-minute "Chaconne In G," giving way for bouncy violins and cellos to take us down a familiar road. Side B is unlike anything in Moondog's catalog. Made up of six extremely heavy and mostly ominous pipe organ tracks that last over twenty minutes, it is darker and far more eerie than anything Moondog had yet released. Less playful than other of his albums, In Europe displays Moondog's virtuosity as a classical composer, with elegantly stylized pieces that see him embracing a grandiosity he hadn't approached previously.

Besides the many #1 and Top 10 original hits that Nils has written and produced he has also recorded some very big remake hits like "That's The Way Of The World" which was the #1 song of the year 2024! Nils ability to pick hits in all genres of music and reinterpret them into smooth jazz classics has been incredible. From his first album that included a version of the Toto hit "Georgie Porgy" to his version of "Europa" penned by Carlos Santana on The Nils album "Up Close and Personal" his remake hits have been very impressive. We are very excited to bring you Nils new single, a Smooth Jazz remake of the classic Frankie Beverly and Maze song "Joy And Pain" from the "Chill It" album. I think this latest single will also become one of Nils classic songs!

Candice Hoyes, Mimi Jones, and Val Jeanty - the visionary forces behind Nite Bjuti - are architects of a new New York City sound. United by a boundary-pushing spirit, they fuse turntables, rhythmic bass, and poetic lyricism to honor the community and lineage of the Caribbean diaspora. Born from reflections on love and communal resilience, Minwi looks toward a future rooted in empathy and mutual care. They treat the creation of 'home' as an ongoing, collective practice - a necessary response to the systemic challenges and displacement currently facing Black, Brown, and immigrant communities across the globe. As Karen Gabay says in the liner notes: "This album is a rarity in the 21st century" and in a statement accompanying the album, guest flautist Nicole Mitchell declares that "What Candice, Val and Mimi are doing with Nite Bjuti will be imprinted into the history of this time and space for Black women a cross the Atlantic (...) This is not a group climbing for recognition. This is a collective with a soulful mission." We proudly and joyfully welcome Nite Bjuti to the Intakt Records family!

This June 19, Danish pianist Ole Matthiessen, one of the most inventive voices in Scandinavian jazz, celebrates his 80th birthday with the release of Subcurrents on Storyville Records. A remarkable compilation spanning more than five decades of musical exploration. The album brings together 7 performances from 1968 to 2025, offering a rare glimpse into some alternative, improvisational currents that have defined Matthiessen's career. From the early energy of the Poul Ehlers Quartet in 1968, featuring the rare collaboration with free-jazz drummer Bo de Richelieu and a young Jesper Zeuthen, to his contributions in Erling Kroner's Quintet in 1970, Matthiessen's pianism has always blended melodic sensitivity with a restless curiosity. The album also includes the electrifying Turkish-inspired jazz of Atilla Engin Group in 1981, where Matthiessen fuses complex rhythms with the swinging spirit of jazz, as well as boundary-pushing improvisations with Global Units in 2011, incorporating electronics and experimental textures.Later recordings, such as Testmann Jazz in 2023, highlight Matthiessen's lyrical side, paying homage to Ben Webster while demonstrating his enduring command of ensemble interplay. Framing the album are two solo improvisations, Subcurrent 1 and Subcurrent 2, recorded in 2025 at The Village Studio, capturing the pianist at his most spontaneous, exploring sound, touch, and flow in real time with no rehearsals or retakes.Subcurrents is more than a retrospective. It is a journey through the subtle undercurrents of jazz, and the threads connecting tradition, experimentation, and collaboration across decades. Produced, remastered, and annotated by Matthiessen himself, the album presents both longtime fans and new listeners with an intimate portrait of a musician whose adventurous spirit remains undiminished at 80.
