James Brandon Lewis is on the top of the international jazz world and is considered one of the most influential voices incontemporary jazz. With a powerful, direct tenor saxophone sound and lyrical depth in both his solos and compositions, he makes a tremendous impact - especially with his quartet. Omni is the sixth album by the acclaimed James Brandon Lewis Quartet featuring Aruán Ortiz, Brad Jones, and Chad Taylor. Over the past decade, this outstanding group has been an integral part of Lewis's concept of "Molecular Systematic Music," which initially revolved around six or seven-note scales, evolved into a twelve-tone system, and continues to expand. With Omni, the concept grows to include further elements and reveals, among other things, a musical gesture that could be called "twelve-tone gospel." Omni is arguably James Brandon Lewis's most personal statement to date and once again demonstrates the mastery of the individual musicians in a group brimming with internal dialogue and collective creativity. "A sermon without words" is how Kevin Le Gendre titles the liner notes, and concludes "What we find here is spiritual music in it's purest form."

The Breaks, a brand-new powerhouse trio of Robert Walter (Greyboy Allstars), Eddie Roberts (The New Mastersounds), and Stanton Moore (Galactic). Rooted in the tradition of late-'60s organ trios and hard-hitting boogaloo, The Breaks pushes the sound forward with deep-pocket rhythms, tight arrangements, and fearless improvisation. Eddie Roberts' sharp, melodic guitar work dances effortlessly over Stanton Moore's explosive New Orleans-infused drum grooves, while Robert Walter's signature Hammond organ tones tie it all together with grit and soul. Between them, they've logged countless tours, recorded landmark albums, and collaborated with a who's-who of the modern jam, funk, and jazz worlds. But in The Breaks, the chemistry feels spontaneous- three kindred spirits locking into a groove and letting it ride. "Even though this is a new band, there are years of history between us," says Walter. "These are two of my favorite musicians and two of my closest friends. I'm also a huge fan of both Eddie and Stanton. It's so easy and fun to play music with these people. It's likeputting on a pair of well broken in comfortable shoes.

Ah, Les Vaches! Is the 12th Bushman's Revenge album. The title means Ah, the cows, which supposedly were the dying words of the great composer, eccentric, and all around hero to the band, Erik Satie. The band started out in 2003, and made their first record 20 years ago. So yeah, it's been a minute! So what's new? Well, they have a New member, the one and only Tor Egil Kreken - bass player, session ace, and all 'round musician?extraordinaire. The songs were mainly inspired by an assortment of friends, pets and other critters - living or otherwise. And we hope you'll take them for a spin, and in your own time, maybe even clap, sing or dance along to this ungodly racket! Please enjoy!"

Recorded on a cold January night in 2013 in Copenhagen, Into the Storm brings together renowned Danish pianist Carsten Dahl with one of the most formidable rhythm sections in modern jazz, American bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Gregory Hutchinson. Across nine tracks consisting of a mix of, the trio delivers a masterclass in trust, shared pulse and fearless improvisation. Into the Storm will be released on Storyville Records on March 6, 2026.The concert was part of a series of one-off encounters pairing leading American jazz musicians with Danish artists, an approach rooted in Copenhagen's unique jazz history. From 1959 onward, the legendary Jazzhus Montmartre became a second home to figures such as Dexter Gordon, Kenny Drew, Ben Webster, Stan Getz, Oscar Pettiford, and Johnny Griffin. Their presence helped shape generations of Danish jazz musicians and forged a lasting bond between American jazz and Copenhagen.Carsten Dahl stands as one of the most significant figures of the post-Montmartre generation. A central voice in Danish and European jazz, Dahl combines profound respect for the tradition with a restless, exploratory spirit. His playing is marked by a highly dynamic touch, sudden shifts in density, and a willingness to let form emerge in the moment. Dahl's musical upbringing under drummer Ed Thigpen, who settled in Copenhagen in 1972 and mentored many young Danish musicians, gave him deep roots in swing, form, and interaction.Jazz history is defined by great rhythm teams, Ray Brown & Ed Thigpen, Ron Carter & Tony Williams, NHOP & Alex Riel among them. In our time, Reuben Rogers and Gregory Hutchinson stand firmly in that lineage. Rogers' sound draws deeply from the Oscar Pettiford school: grounded, resonant and melodically rich. Hutchinson's musical DNA was shaped through his work with Betty Carter and in Ray Brown's trio. Together, they share a rare, almost telepathic connection and an elastic sense of time that lifts everything around them. On Into the Storm, their interplay doesn't simply support the piano, it actively shapes the music's direction.Dahl moves constantly between control and abandon, shaping the music in real time with hard swing giving way to lyrical ballads, spontaneous structures and daring transitions. Throughout, his close musical dialogue with Rogers and Hutchinson reinforces the sense of discovery. The rhythm section's deep groove and unshakeable internal time keep the music grounded, even at it's most adventurous.Captured in a single winter night in Copenhagen, Into the Storm displays Carsten Dahl's unpredictable swing meeting the drive and authority of Rogers and Hutchinson. A perfect example of jazz as a living art form: rooted in tradition, shaped by risk, and realized through the rare trust shared between three musicians listening as deeply as they play. Cecile Licad plays piano music by Scott JoplinScott Joplin (1868-1917), along with James Scott and Joseph Lamb, forms what are often called the "three B's" of classic ragtime. While hundreds of ragtime composers were active at the turn of the twentieth century - many of them itinerant African American pianists performing largely unnotated rags throughout the Missouri Valley states - it was Joplin who brought the genre into a fully realized, notated art form. These pianists, almost all male and rarely formally trained, were brilliant improvisers who earned their livelihoods in the so-called "tenderloin districts". Often referred to as "professors", they formed a vibrant musical network that fueled the ragtime craze from roughly 1890 until World War I. Joplin himself stood apart. Born in Texarkana shortly after the Civil War to a formerly enslaved father and a freeborn mother from Kentucky, he showed early musical promise and received formal instruction from a Czech-Jewish immigrant teacher. Joplin's respect for disciplined musical training - and his sense of obligation to the genre - shaped the course of ragtime history UPC: 5709499101001Label: Danacord RecordsRelease Date: 7.17.26Format: CD
Following an extensive international tour, Cedar Walton and his quartet entered the studio in December 1980 at the height of their collective powers. The Maestro captures a band forged on the road-refined, intuitive, and deeply connected-delivering performances that balance precision with spontaneity. At the center is Walton's unmistakable voice as a composer and pianist, blending blues-rooted swing with harmonic depth and lyrical clarity. The program moves effortlessly between Walton originals and timeless standards, each rendered with elegance and purpose. A defining highlight is the presence of Abbey Lincoln, whose intimate and expressive vocal performances add a profound emotional dimension to the recording. Her collaboration with Walton elevates the title track into a poignant tribute that resonates beyond the moment. Featuring a masterful ensemble-Bob Berg (tenor saxophone), David Williams (bass), and Billy Higgins (drums)-The Maestro stands as a document of a working band at it's peak: cohesive, dynamic, and deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. Digitally remastered in 2026, this reissue restores a vital chapter in Cedar Walton's legacy with renewed clarity and presence.

Chick Corea - Sometime Ago: Live In Germany 1972A long-lost treasure from one of the most creative periods of Chick Corea's life, finally available in its entirety.Step into Radio Bremen's legendary Sendesaal and experience an intimate, breathtaking solo performance by Chick Corea at the height of his artistic development. This newly restored double CD, recorded on October 29, 1972, captures an evening that was both musically daring and deeply personal. An evening when Corea's warmth, imagination, and virtuosity filled one of Europe's best acoustic halls. This concert from the archives of Radio Bremen documents a defining moment: Corea was 31 years old and moved fluidly between different musical worlds. Fresh from Piano Improvisations, shortly before Return to Forever, and in search of new creative partnerships with artists such as Gary Burton and Stan Getz. This performance condenses all that energy into two captivating sets.Throughout the program, Corea transforms the grand piano into a storyteller. He expands pieces like "Noon Song" far beyond their studio versions, combining rhythmic fire with lyrical beauty and shifting effortlessly from romantic introspection to Latin-infused exuberance. He revisits early gems like "Children's Song No. 1," explores Wayne Shorter's "Masqualero," and even allows himself to be inspired by a free improvisation influenced by Jonathan Livingston Seagull. What makes this recording so extraordinary is not just the repertoire. Corea speaks to the audience, tells stories, and invites listeners into his creative world. As music journalist Arne Schumacher recalls in the liner notes: "The beauty and warmth that unfolded from the piano and filled the room was overwhelming. I was spellbound."CHICK COREA / SOME TIME AGO: LIVE IN GERMANY 1972

On June 19, Storyville Records releases Between Then and Now, a new trio album by acclaimed American pianist Christian Sands, joined by Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek and Swedish drummer Rasmus Kihlberg. An international collaboration that captures contemporary jazz at the intersection of American tradition and Nordic musical sensibility. The album features 9 tracks, balancing original compositions by Sands and Fonnesbaek with inspired reinterpretations of jazz standards and classic repertoire by Bobby Timmons, Richard Rodgers, Luiz Bonfa, and John Coltrane. Recorded in the spirit of Copenhagen's jazz tradition it presents jazz as both a living art form of the present and a dialogue with it's past, hence the title Between Then and Now.The collaboration grew from Sands' relationship with the Copenhagen jazz scene, initiated when former Montmartre musical director Christian Brorsen discovered him online and invited him to Denmark. Like earlier generations of American jazz musicians, including Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon, Sands quickly became a compelling presence in Copenhagen, where attentive listening and subtle interplay guide every performance. Over the years he has been a frequent guest in Denmark and loved by the audience here.Together, the trio represents a truly international jazz language. Sands is celebrated for his virtuosic piano playing, rich harmonic imagination, and improvisational energy. Fonnesbaek, one of Europe's leading bassists, offers melodic clarity and technical brilliance shaped by the Danish jazz tradition, while Kihlberg contributes a refined rhythmic approach marked by elegance, precision and responsiveness. Together they have a compelling sound of openness yet you always feel the classic American jazz tradition in the music. This is modern American/Scandinavian music, not just jazz.Listen to Sands' inventive arrangement of Giant Leaves, which merges John Coltrane's Giant Steps with Joseph Kosma's Autumn Leaves, served as a tribute to legendary Danish drummer Alex Riel, who influenced both Sands and generations of jazz musicians in Europe.Original compositions such as Sands' Where Children Still Play and Where the Light Settles, and Fonnesbaek's Searching in Sahara reveal the trio's lyrical and exploratory approach. The Nordic hymn Til ungdommen (To the Youth/Kringsatt av Fiender) is another beautiful example of how this trio sound together. Enjoy this contemporary recording with three of the most interesting musicians on the Scandinavian and American jazz scene right now. For more than three decades, trombonist Conrad Herwig has worked the sweet spot where modern jazz meets Afro-Caribbean fire, building his acclaimed Latin Side of... series into one of the most distinctive runs in contemporary jazz. Forged in the company of masters like Eddie Palmieri, Mario Bauzá, and Tito Puente, Herwig brings authority and imagination to the bandstand. Now he takes on The Latin Side of Chick Corea, celebrating a composer whose music thrives on motion, color, and cross-cultural spark. Drawing from Corea's catalog, from early landmarks like the albums Tones for Joan's Bones and Now He Sings, Now He Sobs to the electric energy of Return to Forever, Herwig and co-arranger Bill O'Connell dive in with bold ideas and a fearless approach, reshaping the material with a sure feel for where it comes from and where it can go. Pieces like "Spain," "500 Miles High," and "Windows" ride a deep groove, opening fresh pathways while keeping their melodic impact front and center. With a crack ensemble featuring Craig Handy, Alex Norris, and a rhythm section that locks in and lifts off, Herwig leads performances that are tight, driving, and full of attitude. This is no reverent retread. It is living, breathing music that engages and excites. The series here hits another high mark, the conversation growing deeper, richer, and more compelling.

Danny Raycraft's Live at Cafe Ornithology captures the energy, spontaneity, and deep swing of a rising tenor saxophone voice performing in one of New York City's premier jazz venues. Recorded live in Brooklyn, this intimate quartet session showcases Raycraft's soulful, hard-swinging approach to the tenor saxophone, rooted firmly in the traditions of Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Billy Harper, and the musical philosophy of Mulgrew Miller. A graduate of William Paterson University, where he studied with jazz masters Vince Herring, Rich Perry, Harold Mabern, and Mulgrew Miller, Raycraft brings a deep understanding of the jazz tradition while maintaining a personal and contemporary voice. Backed by an exceptional rhythm section featuring the ever-edgy Oscar Williams II on piano, backed by veterans Gandharva Earl Sauls on bass, and drummer Mark Johnson, the quartet delivers inspired performances of beloved standards and modern jazz classics. The repertoire ranges from the Broadway charm of "If I Were a Bell" and "I've Never Been in Love Before" to Freddie Hubbard's enduring masterpiece "Up Jumped Spring," alongside heartfelt interpretations of "My Ship," "I'll Remember April," and "Just You, Just Me." Throughout the recording, Raycraft demonstrates the qualities that have earned praise from fellow musicians and audiences alike: a sound that is both soulful and swinging. Echoes of the Unknown is the debut album by German drummer and composer David Giesel-a modern jazz statement built on trust, attentive interplay, and the courage to let music unfold in real time. Recorded live as a band in one room at Jazzcampus Studio Basel (Jan 9-10, 2026) and co-produced with mentor Paulo Almeida, the album treats uncertainty as fuel: play first, understand later-an approach that turns instinct into form and risk into clarity.Leading an international quartet with Albin Ormegard, Moritz Langmaier (piano/keys) and Thomas Fuller, Giesel shapes a sound world where groove and modern harmony meet openness and space-drawing on contemporary jazz aesthetics while absorbing subtle rock/indie edges. Most pieces are Giesel originals, complemented by one composition each from Ormegard and Langmaier, reflecting the group's shared voice. At the album's center, "Moods" opens a reflective window that includes spoken word by Dae Bryant, anchoring the record's human, hopeful core. The result is a vibrant, deeply personal snapshot: four musicians listening hard, moving as one, and inviting the listener into the mystery-where familiarity meets discovery. Denise Donatelli returns to Savant Records with Take My Breath Away, a celebratory new recording that finds the multi-GRAMMYr nominated vocalist bringing together contemporary songcraft, Brazilian music, her acclaimed jazz stylings and intimate balladry in a program as deeply personal as it is musically expansive. Long admired for her warm, expressive tone and interpretive depth, Donatelli once again joins forces with longtime collaborator, pianist and arranger Geoffrey Keezer, whose imaginative settings provide an ideal framework for her artistry. Recorded in New York with a stellar ensemble including Ron Blake, Donny McCaslin, Chien Chien Lu, Yotam Silberstein, and background vocals from Arnold McCuller, Take My Breath Away moves effortlessly from the sophisticated swing of "How Little We Know" to the luminous string quintet textures of James Taylor's "You and I Again," Antonio Jobim's "This Happy Madness" and the reflective beauty of Irving Berlin's "How Deep Is the Ocean." Donatelli and Keezer's collaborative approach unifies these varied musical landscapes into a recording of remarkable warmth and emotional clarity. This album chronicles some more of my favorite adventures in the areas of acoustic piano trio, solo piano, and electro-acoustic duo. George Marsh, drums and Mel Graves, bass were co-explorers beginning in 1968 when I began a decade long foray into multi-genre electro-acoustic music. It was a treat to re-unite with them as an acoustic piano trio in this 2003 concert. "It Could Happen To You" employs shifting time signatures, mostly in 7/4 with moves into 4/4; a vamp to stretch out on; and a final modulation for spice. "Body and Soul" begins with a freely improvised piano introduction, followed by a reharmonized and modulated melody. I love the collaborative exploration of these great old standards.Three solo piano studio pieces focusing on Cole Porter follow. Once I re-familiarized myself with the tunes, and explored some possibilities of reharmonization and approach, I stepped out of the way of the music and allowed myself to be surprised. "I Love You" ended up at a moderately brisk pace with episodes in half time; "Night And Day" as a slow rumba; and "It Was Just One Of Those Things" as an extensive exploration involving several tempos. The third section of the album is devoted to the continuing electro-acoustic duo exploration of spontaneous composition with drummer- percussionist George Marsh which began in 2014. Our almost telepathic rapport has continued to evolve, along with our instrumentation. My incorporation of SWAM orchestral software and George's addition of the Roland Electronic Drums have greatly enriched our galactic palette. There was no pre-planning on any of these pieces. On a few occasions, when we ran out of appendages, a bit of orchestration is over-dubbed. The titles came after, in an attempt to capture at least some experience of the performance.

Eric Harland has been described as the most "in-demand drummer" of his generation, and the numbers tell the story. Harland has appeared on over 500 albums, earned multiple Grammy nominations, and is consistently recognized by major music press publications. Beyond the quantity is the quality and the breadth; Eric Harland has experienced music in many forms, in many cultures, in real time. Eric Harland's process continues with 'Vipassana II,' an observation-based, self-exploratory journey, rooting the mind and body together in order to dissolve mental impurities and chaos. The desired result is to discover a balanced mind, full of love and compassion, for yourself and the rest of the world. In writing and playing this music, Eric was able to deepen the interconnection between mind and body. "The 'Vipassana' series is a musical exploratory expression of living this life enveloped by a strong musical culture and community. The good, the bad, the relaxed. It's all processed within these notes and rhythms, which is carried out by me and a handful of close friends, also on their own roads to self-discovery." - Eric Harland
