2025 was a year of milestones for me: I had a big birthday and I was about to record my 20th album as a leader. The 20th album felt really important; I wanted to celebrate my time in New York City and musical achievements. I imagined a party and jam session where all of my loved ones were present, a time where we would play music and laugh and eat good food and have a real party. "House Party" is that dream come true. On this record you will hear my long-time rhythm section (more than 20 years of music!!) Hide Tanaka on bass and Fukushi Tainaka on drums. Sitting in with us is Cory Weeds, my long time touring partner, musical collaborator, and founder of Cellar Live Records on tenor sax. Also sitting in with us is Klas Lindquist, my newest collaborator, on alto sax. In the audience we have my friends and business associates spanning many years. We played, we talked, we laughed, we partied. This album represents all that is good and beloved in my life, I hope you feel the same spirit when you listen!

Charlie Watts "Anthology" is an affectionate retrospective and a reflection of just how frequently Watts was able to exercise his jazz muscles between Rolling Stones commitments to create a bespoke discography of his own. Including 3 unreleased tracks. The names of Charlie's jazz heroes fell from his lips like a superfan turning the pages of a personal scrapbook. Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Chico Hamilton, Dave Green, Stan Tracey, Peter King, Courtney Pine, Gail Thompson, Brian Lemon, Gerard Presencer, the Red Rodney group and collaborator Jim Keltner. He knew every player, every session, every album, every outfit they wore on the cover, and he spoke about them with a deep and genuine reverence. He may have been a globally loved hero in the biggest band in the word, but he swatted away any compliment or comparison with his musical favourites. He counted himself their admirer, never their equal. The Anthology includes an extended essay by Paul Sexton which documents Charlie Watt's jazz career and the essential albums covered in the collection.

Chet Baker showed with his music that little bit of dark substance that exists in the human being - the shadow side - just as very few other jazz musicians have been able to do. However, such a reading that looks for traces of anguish and self-destruction in every note - and which has also been translated into a couple of films - has ended up overshadowing something very important: namely, that Chet Baker was a top-notch jazz musician, the creator of a unique and personal poetics, an interpreter who did not wallow in his own torments but who also knew how to take less introspective paths, including a superfine and very lively swing. Chet Baker's music had characteristics of it's own. Of a bebop nature in the fast pieces, he had in solos that complex and pulsating way that characterized this style. He differed from it in the soft timbre of the trumpet, which rarely indulged in the "flare-ups" typical of the boppers, and above all for the insistent use of pauses. These were precisely one of the cornerstones of his musical language. In the ballads the trumpeter-singer expanded them to the point of absurdity (and so did with the notes), making them spaces charged of meaning, as can be seen in the somber I'm a Fool to Want You, made famous by Billie Holiday, and also in the serene In a Sentimental Mood. In this final phase of his career, Baker often liked to have groups without drums with him because, in addition to allowing him to maintain a muffled volume in his singing and trumpet playing, the drumless situation guaranteed him greater freedom. Only the double bass player was left to keep time, a role here entrusted to a solid Knauer. In Ferrara, a sensitive French pianist, Michel Graillier, took the stage; in those years he was looking for a synthesis between the energy of McCoy Tyner and the harmonic language of Bill Evans. Finally, the presence of a piano allowed Stilo to limit the use of the other harmonic instrument, the guitar, in favor of the flute.

Forever Yours: The Farewell Performance captures highlights from two transcendent solo-piano concerts given just four months before the jazz icon Chick Corea's passing. Made at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL in October 2020, they would be the last public concerts Corea ever gave. Not long after these performances, his health suddenly declined, and in February 2021 the world lost one of it's greatest musicians. These recordings stand as both a deeply affecting goodbye and a definitive document of the Chick Corea solo piano experience. The listener is treated to Corea's signature cascading virtuosity, technical command, and harmonic knowledge. Featuring original music ("Armando's Rhumba," a mini-recital of Children's Songs) alongside homages to some of the composers he cherished, like Monk, Powell, and Ellington. The record reflects the generosity and empathy at the core of his music.Throughout the program, Corea's uncut spoken interludes find him introducing tunes and explaining concepts in his affable, familial way, as if chatting with old friends.Mixed and mastered by long time collaborator Birnie Kirsch and presented as a 2 disc LP set in a gatefold sleeve and includes the bonus track "Pannonica". With liner notes featuring heartfelt messages from well known admirers like Alicia Keys, Herbie Hancock, Hans Zimmer, Bobby McFerrin, Stanley Clarke, Lang Lang, and more.An essential release, it is a fine and fitting end to an astounding career.

After several successful album releases in a mainstream setting, Chief Xian aTunde Adjuah, known then as Christian Scott, chose to continue his path towards full control of his artistic identity. His 2015 release was titled Stretch Music, and it marked the creation of his own label of the same name. A bold move, both musically and professionally; one that nurtured his creative spirit and opened the way for a steady stream of albums that refined his sound and mission. Stretch Music was well received in the press, and from that point his listeners had a direct way to support his choices and sounds. Just as a climber can only see the clarity of the path when he reaches the summit, we can now look back at the direct line that brought the artist to this point. To commemorate this journey, Chief Adjuah presents to the world The Stretch Music 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition with three new tracks. The deluxe edition reaffirms Stretch Music's dynamic legacy and mission to create new sonic landscapes and musical languages that embrace possibility and innovation while still honoring tradition. The Stretch Music 10th anniversary offering features three new compositions from Chief Adjuah's upcoming releases. "Back 2 Back" - featuring Elena Pinderhughes, "Shared Stories of Rivals II" - featuring Logan Richardson and Weedie Braimah and "Take Off Your Cool" - featuring Robert Glasper. Each composition was written to address critical socio-political issues shaping our time. The Stretch Music 10th Anniversary Deluxe Edition continues to exemplify the necessity of innovation in today's music. It does so by demonstrating the potential for adaptability and socio-cultural engagement while still pushing boundaries and incorporating a wide array of influences and cultures.

Retail Exclusive Jewel-Case CD of Cory Wong's latest album 'Starship Syncopation' with the Metropole Orkest.Collaboration in it's purest form is something that features the two artists involved while drawing something out of each other that they never would have been able to pull off on their own. This is why I love doing it. It keeps my creative mind spinning and inspired. I did a short run of concerts a few years back that featured the Metropole Orkest, and we've discussed working on a project together ever since. I've never seen an orchestra who is so versatile in being able to play classical and also groove based music. I knew that we'd be able to capture something really special if I utilized them alongside my band. When writing this album I knew that the hard hitting groove and funk elements needed to be represented, but in a new and unique way that I've not been able to explore on past projects. As someone who's eternally curious, I wrote and demoed about 25 songs to see what kind of space I could explore with 50 extra musicians in the band. The possibilities seemed endless until I realized that the arrangements could just weave in rather than being alongside. Once I started to write and arrange the music in a way that made it feel like ONE ensemble, it made itself very clear how to move forward and make the album. The recording process was great because after putting demos together I recorded my band and rhythm section in Minneapolis where I typically make my albums, then took it to the arranging phase. The demos had key lines and moments that I wanted the orchestra to cover, but I worked with other orchestral arrangers to help bring it to life (and to help me with the daunting task of writing out all of the music for 50+ musicians per song). The additional writers/featured artists/arrangers I worked with on this project really helped me hone in the vision further because it helped me further imagine all of the areas that the orchestra could be utilized. There's everything from hard hitting bangers like "Burning" and "Starship Syncopation" to emotional filmic sounding music like "Quotidian Fields (feat. Bruce Hornsby)". My goal with every album I make is to find new ways to discover parts of my artistry and voice; to grow and learn through the experiences. This album was an amazing opportunity to explore new territory for both Metropole Orkest and I.

Swiss pianist and composer Sylvie Courvoisier has been a defining figure on the contemporary jazz scene for 20 years and is at the epicenter of the New York music scene. She was also recently awarded the prestigious Swiss Grand Prix Musik 2025. She now follows up on the acclaimed recent releases - her solo album To be Other-Wise, and the atmospherically multi-layered duo album Angel Falls with the legendary Wadada Leo Smith - with a live album from her much-lauded trio with bassist Drew Gress and drummer Kenny Wollesen. Recorded during a European tour in February 2025, the album presents the quintessence of this outstanding trio. With each concert, with each album, the trio's working method becomes more defined. In deep musical trust with each other, the three exceptional musicians celebrate a detailed and precise music that is both ambiguous and wide open. "And that's what this album shows now. This joy, diversity, subtlety, this desire. (...) Losing oneself in the music, the delicious moment that unfolds heavenly. But so cunning, so complex, so pointed, as only true virtuosos can be," writes Ulrich Stock in the liner notes.

Prolific trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas announces the release of Transcend, featuring his all-star GIFTS Quintet. Blending electronics, lyricism, and high-energy interplay, the ensemble operates at full force, driven by a clear spiritual vision.Following his 2024 release GIFTS - honoring Billy Strayhorn - Transcend continues Douglas' exploration of legacy, spirituality, and ensemble innovation. Transcend features the same core group as GIFTS, including DownBeat Artist of the Year tenor saxophonist James Brandon Lewis and two members of the Oscar-nominated post-rock trio Son Lux: guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang. Expanded with the addition of cellist and MacArthur Genius Awardee Tomeka Reid, the quintet employs a radical new instrumentation. Douglas' new offering Transcend is created in observance of Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts, landmark works performed between 1965-1973, and widely regarded as the spiritual culmination of Ellington's career. Vice Versa was created out of the need of Belgian pianist Bram de Looze's (LABtrio, Joey Baron, Thomas Morgan, Hank Roberts) to collaborate with artists who he feels are natural extensions to his sound. He quickly found kindred spirits in New York master drummer Eric McPherson (Jackie McLean, Andrew Hill, Pharoah Sanders, Fred Hersch) and Berlin bassist Felix Henkelhausen (Jim Black, Nate Wooley, Lotte Anker), two compositional masterminds with a boundless sense of rhythmic inventiveness. The versatile and exploratory trio sets the bar for expressive interpretation and inventive creativity high. They traverse different approaches in which musical rules change without losing momentum. This leads to an interesting musical synthesis where the spirit of traditional jazz language emerges during intuitive musical excursions within free improvisation and contemporary music.Their debut album 'Vice Versa' came out in 2023 on Dox Records to great acclaim. In january of 2025, while Bram de Looze was the Artist in Residence at Brussels Jazz Festival in Flagey, they recorded their second album live on stage, witnessed by a sold out Studio 1. "Love Grows Deep" reunites vibraphonist Dick Sisto and pianist Fred Hersch in a luminous duo setting, drawing from their long musical friendship and the acclaimed 2001 concert at the Kentucky Center for the Arts. Sisto - a deeply melodic player shaped by Chicago's golden age jazz scene and decades of artistic life in Louisville - finds an ideal partner in Hersch, whose lyricism and harmonic imagination have made him one of modern jazz's most celebrated pianists. This hybrid release combines newly selected performances from the original Duo Live album with additional, previously unreleased material from the same concert. Originals by both artists sit alongside works by Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk, and Benny Carter, revealing a rapport marked by clarity, warmth, and effortless interplay.A quarter century after it's recording, "Love Grows Deep" stands as a testament to two master musicians whose shared sensibility turns every piece into an intimate conversation. First Impression is the debut album by trumpeter and composer D!ma Loginov, a deeply personal statement shaped by memory, migration, and identity. Rooted in modern jazz and enriched with elements of Kazakh folk music, the album reflects Loginov's journey from his childhood in Kazakhstan to his artistic life in Amsterdam. Across eight tracks, he blends soulful melodies, bold improvisation, and spiritual intensity, creating music that speaks as much through feeling as through sound. The album draws inspiration from wide landscapes, first love, and the freedom found in improvisation. Traditional influences surface most clearly in Steppe Sons and a striking modal-jazz reimagining of the Kazakh folk song Yapurai, while moments of intimacy emerge in the a cappella trumpet solo Luiza and the lyrical title track First Impression, featuring vocalist Carolina Gemmell. Recorded with a close-knit group of international musicians, many of whom Loginov met after moving to the Netherlands, First Impression captures a sense of trust, vulnerability, and shared energy. It is an introduction not only to an emerging artistic voice, but to the emotional world that shapes it. UPC: 608917362527Label: ChallengeRelease Date: 4.17.26Format: CD
