What if the forest could speak?Since their debut, Les Mamans Du Congo & Rrobin have been building a body of work at the intersection of cultural transmission and experimentation. Following a well-received self-titled debut album, then Ya Mizole, which asserted a strong Afro-retro-futurist and feminist identity, the collective continues on it's path with WA SANGI: 'listen to the forest.' This third album marks a shift. Their perspective broadens, without ever straying from their original anchor: women, mothers, and their role in passing on traditions. Here, it's no longer just about preservation. It's about raising awareness.Musically, WA SANGI deepens the band's signature sound by asserting a unique creative approach. No pre-established framework: no tempo, no aesthetic, no format. The tracks emerge from the voices, songs, and rhythms brought by the Mamans du Congo, which Rrobin extends in real time. The compositions take shape during jam sessions, in a process akin to a live performance, where chords, structures, and textures emerge through direct interaction with the vocal material. With WA SANGI, Les Mamans Du Congo & Rrobin deliver their most direct work to date. An album with multiple layers of meaning-ecological, social, economic, and human-that both documents and challenges. Listening to the forest, here, is not a metaphor. It is a necessityHIGHLIGHTS: Nearly 35K monthly Spotify listeners On Spotify: Ngaminke (2.5M streams) / Meki (1.6M streams)Internationally recognized project: For several years, Les Mamans Du Congo & Rrobin have been developing a unique Afro-futurist sound, blending traditional Congolese music with contemporary electronic textures. The villuppattu ('song of the bow') is a tradition of epic and ritual songs from the Tamil region, performed here by S. P. Muttulakshmi and T. Muttusvami Pulavar: the main instrument (the large villu bow) and light percussion instruments provide the rhythm for the chanting of sacred texts rising from the temple.Villuppattu orchestras perform at major seasonal village festivals held in lower-status Hindu temples dedicated to a demon-god and/or his consort. This tradition attaches great importance to the sacred nature of texts (preserved on palm leaves) that recount the history of local deities.A bow 2 to 3 metres long serves as a percussion instrument and rests on a terracotta pot (kutam). The string, to which small bells are attached, is struck by two singers using a pair of sticks; and the pot is struck by a musician with a large spatula. Three other percussionists and singers play a small hourglass-shaped drum (udukkai), small cymbals (jalra) and wooden claves (kattai). The Chopi Timbila is one of Africa's great orchestral traditions. The tradition lives in Zavala, Mozambique, and continually references Chopi ancestors. Their mwenje wood xylophones are tuned in seven equidistant pitches giving them a microtonal quality starkly different from the tempered scale (European classical music, the Beatles, etc). From enormous sub-bass behemoths to higher-pitched, sometimes shoulder-strapped instruments, there are five types of xylophones in the orchestra. They anchor a defined musical structure rooted in rural life and a strong sense of community. The ensembles consist of varying ages and skill levels (beginners through masters) and new song cycles are composed and performed each year. In 2008 UNESCO listed it as Intangible Cultural Heritage and people across Mozambique recognize it as one of the most complex and beautiful forms of traditional music in the region. The seemingly monolithic, chaotic sound of Timbila Ta Venâncio at full tilt is disorienting at first, until the undulations wash over the listener, sync somewhere internally and become invigorating. Yet all the rhythmic energy bubbling through this recording is more than a ritual. It follows a cadence that begins within the family. The group's members are all brothers. That is hardly surprising: they are the sons of the celebrated Venâncio Mbande, a true master of timbila. An icon and the focal point of timbila festivals during much of his lifetime (he died in 2015), leaving us the legacy presented here. Ecos do Legado (Echoes of the Legacy) is a new recording made in a state-of-the-art Studio Bom Dia in Inhambane Province in 2026. This album stands as a monument to the master Venâncio Mbande, a tribute to the Chopi people, and an interpretation of Mbande's unforgettable work. The order of the pieces is not random: they are interconnected and tell a coherent story. The ten pieces unfold in the traditional sequence across two sides: four Mtsitso (introductions) open onto Mgeniso and Mwemiso, before Chibudo, the lively dance, gives way to Mzeno - a nine-minute apotheosis - then Mabandla and the closing Mtsitso Wogwita bring the cycle to rest. The compositions' arrangement follows principles established over the long history of timbila. Learning to play begins very early and unfolds naturally, since children are in constant contact with the instruments. Women, too, are now beginning to take an interest in this cycle of learning. This is a clear sign that the tradition remains vibrant among the Vatxopi, who regard timbila as the heart of their culture.

Born in 1948 to an outstanding family of musicians and teachers, Veena Sahasrabuddhe was first trained in kathak dance and then tutored in music by her father and her older brother, the late Kashinath Shankar Bodas. Her contributions to Indian music have earned her many honors, among them the prestigious Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akedemi Award. Ms. Sahasrabuddhe has performed in Australia, North America, Europe, the Middle East and, of course, throughout India. She is known and respected for her directness and extraordinary intensity of performance. Her slow, lingering, non-defined vocal frequencies border on improvisation and demonstrate a total command of abilities. One Thousand Minds perfectly showcases Veena Sahasrabuddhe's unique yet classical approach to Hindustani music. She has over forty other recordings to her name, on such labels as HMV, BMG-Crescendo and Sony, but One Thousand Minds is her very first American release. This special edition is limited to 1000 numbered copies and includes a 20-page photo journal of Veena Sahasrabuddhe's musical history and a lyric sheet in Devanagari with English translations and phonetic spellings. These items are enclosed in sealed 5' audio-reel box.

Sakina Teyna was born into a Kurdish Alevite family in the small town of Varto in Turkey. As a teenager, she started singing with Turkish choirs and bands, but it wasn't until she entered university that she became acquainted with Kurdish musical traditions and set out to defy cultural assimilation. In 1991, she joined the Mespotamian Cultural Centre in Istanbul, a proponent of Kurdish culture, as a vocalist. Like many other Kurdish musicians, she was forced to literally go underground to practise her music, and soon she had to choose political activism over art. It wasn't until Sakîna arrived in Austria as a political refugee in 2006 that she took to singing as a full-time pursuit again. The first fruit of her concentrated creative efforts was released in the form of her first solo album ROYE MI. Suret is the story of a photograph, of a face. A story that also whispers the silent tales of the faces hanging on the walls of almost every home in Kurdistan, or hidden away in the quiet pages of photo albums. Some people visit the living world only briefly-they depart before dawn breaks, before their names are spoken widely, before their faces become etched in the memories of others. Soul Jazz Records' 'Calypso - Musical Poetry in the Caribbean' was first issued in 2014 and has been out of print for nearly 10 years. On it's release 'Calypso' was voted one of the year's best 50 reissues in Rolling Stone magazine and received glowing reviews in Pitchfork, The Guardian, Songlines and many more. This new edition has been fully remastered and comes in a new card-edition CD package, with extensive text, notes on all the artists and songs featured, and original artwork and photography. Featuring Lord Kitchener, The Mighty Viper, Count Zebra, Lord Flea, Lord Hummingbird, King Fighter, Lord Growler, Lord Byron, Lord Ivanhoe and other members of Calypso's aristocracy and aristocrats, the album features the music of Calypso in it's many styles. Calypso is one of the most exciting and enduring forms of musical expression that first emerged at the beginning of the 20th century - swinging, persuasive rhythms, brilliantly expressive melodies, and lyrics of great humour, wisdom and wit. Here you will find music from Trinidad, birthplace of Calypso, other Caribbean islands including Jamaica and the Bahamas, as well as sounds from the style's subsequent onwards journey including Britain, Panama and the United States. Calypsonian songs play out a role in society similar to the storytelling Griots of West Africa (and the corresponding music of Kaiso); with their own tales about popular and incredible news items, modern life, local politics all mixed up with sexual innuendo, one-upmanship, comedy and more. This album celebrates a criminally unsung and under-documented art form in the modern age. 'A joyous compilation. Lovingly annotated, it's a glimpse into a now distant era when the Caribbean first took on the world and won' The Guardian UPC: 5026328106007Label: Soul JazzRelease Date: 8.7.26Format: CD
Newly remastered and repackaged, Soul Jazz Records' Gipsy Rhumba was first released to much-critical acclaim around the world in 2012, the album is a stunning mix of Latin, Funk, Flamenco and Rhumba rhythms. The album is being released as a new limited-edition new-card sleeved CD, out of print for more than ten years. The album is like no other and remains the first album ever outside of Spain to seriously focus on the history of Gipsy Rhumba, one of the most interesting musical culture clashes ever that first took place in the early 1960s. In the Catalan region of Spain, Gypsies primarily known as the creators of Flamenco, came up with a fascinating hybrid style - Gipsy Rhumba - which blended together Latin and Rhumba music of Cuba and the Caribbean together with their own Flamenco as well as the emerging Rock and Roll from America. The album tells this unique story of how this Latin-tinged music came about in the heart of Spain's gypsy community. The album comes with extensive sleevenotes, exclusive and stunning photography from the celebrated French photographer Jacques Leonard. The album is put together by two of Spain's most important Gipsy Rhumba specialists - compiler David El Indio and sleevenotes by Jose Manuel Gómez (Gufi). REVIEWS: "A capsule of supercharged clapping and joyous vocals" THE GUARDIAN "Must-have... You all know Gipsy Kings' blend of flamenco and Latin rhythms but where did this convergence of Latin music styles occur? This compilation demonstrates how mid-1960's Barcelona hot-housed gypsy musicians who employed the rumba rhythm Gipsy Rhumba unearths a forgotten corner of Europop."
