1980s Newfoundland, Canada, was a dreary, cold, wet, borderline impoverished place to be a kid. But, through the love of all things dark and heavy, a beast was brewing. Bob Average was coming out of his parents' house one day when he ran into Rod Wills. Rod was carrying an Onslaught record and Bob was carrying Corrosion of Conformity's Animosity. More than a record exchange was made - Schizoid was born. With scene veterans Chris Jerrett and Danny Thomas (replaced by Don Ellis) and newcomers Phil Winters in the fold, the band borrowed their friend Dave Sweetapple's cassette deck and proceeded to tear through their set in Rod's parents' basement. The Total Fuckin' Mayhem demo was released. A year later, the band headed into Don's parents' basement and recorded the Datin' Satan demo, releasing four tracks from that for an EP on their own imprint DUPP Records. The four tracks from the Beer Thief EP and five more from that session, plus a live track, are finally seeing the light of day on Schizoid "Total Mayhem" in March 2026 on Tee Pee Records!

Silencer's merciless emotional firestorm "Death - Pierce Me" is one of the few albums truly deserving the designation 'cult' as it climbed from humble beginnings of basically circulating only across the extreme underground to a widely acclaimed masterpiece with a massive following. In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, Lupus Lounge will reissue this musical milestone in lavish editions that finally do justice to this pioneering depressive metal masterpiece. When Silencer released their one and only album "Death - Pierce Me", they had chosen the same title as their 1998 demo. In hindsight, it seems that the time was ripe for an emotionally challenging type of black metal that incorporated elements from doom and basically aimed for expressing the most bleak emotions of bereavement, loneliness, and utter despair. It is only logical that this subgenre of a subgenre became dubbed 'depressive black metal' - or gets sometimes even branded somewhat excessively as 'depressive suicidal black metal'. Around 1998 this new scene began to coalesce around two Swedish bands, Silencer and SHINING as well as the Quebecois MALVERY and US band XASTHUR, among others. The general template of this rising dark sound had been moulded earlier by such bands as Norwegians STRID and to some extent BETHLEHEM from Germany. Silencer even more than their peers, also quite openly demonstrate a massive influence of BURZUM as particularly the vocals could have been lifted straight from the Norwegians' earlier iconic "Hvis lyset tar oss" release. Yet, while SHINING steadily rose to notorious fame on their course of self-destruction and flirting with death and mental breakdowns, Silencer at first seemed to vanish into obscurity and all that remained were obscure rumours and legends. Only one interview in a German magazine had ever been consigned to history, no live shows were ever performed, nor has there been any sign of another album. Purely by word of mouth, the merits of "Death - Pierce Me" as an influential pioneering work have spread, resulting in continued steady sales that received an IMPALA Silver Award for the verified sales of 20,000 copies across Europe (excluding US and other territories' sales) in 2021.

"It started out as an album full of death metal songs with speed and aggression," says guitarist Jack Owen. "Then [vocalist] Chris [Barnes] had the brilliant idea to keep half of those death metal songs and add some groovier songs in the vein of the early SIX FEET UNDER material. Chris emphasized tempo, so keeping with the beats per minute for early SFU classics, I wrote a side of tasty groove-laden music with Chris doing all the lyrics."The creative collaborative approach sees Next To Die essentially broken down into two different sides - Death and Groove - resulting in an aural masterwork that satisfies SIX FEET UNDER as artists, while also offering something for every fan.The record was produced by Owen and Barnes and mixed and mastered by Mark Lewis of MRL Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and follows 2024's Killing For Revenge. It's the third record that Barnes and Owen have created together since reuniting in 2017. "We don't discuss lyrical themes, we each write what we're feeling," explains Barnes. "We each just write what we find interesting."SIX FEET UNDER was initially formed as a side project for Barnes during his final years with the band that he co-founded, Cannibal Corpse. It became the frontman's sole focus in 1995, coinciding with the release of their debut, Haunted. The current lineup of Barnes, Owen, lead guitarist Ray Suhy, bassist Jeff Hughell, and drummer Marco Pitruzzella make for a devastating unit.That sonic devastation shines on lead single, "Unmistakable Smell Of Death," which sees Owen owning his blast and fast riffs with dynamic pull-offs and stop sections. The middle section riffs were also from my riff archive. I do scratch leads on my demos, but Ray always does a much better job with the leads."Lyrically, I'm writing from the perspective of a killer who toys with a victim and unties them, allowing them to fight. He underestimates their ability to fight, and they get the better of the killer, ultimately impaling and beheading him. The 'Unmistakable Smell Of Death' is now that of the killer!"

Brutal Planet Records drags Unburied from obscurity with the first fully distributed vinyl edition, pressed on Opaque Turquoise Vinyl. These nine unreleased tracks-grim outtakes from the Undead, Unborn, and Torment sessions-capture Six Feet Under in their most visceral and unrefined state. As Chris Barnes noted: "I always felt like these tracks were excellent Six Feet Under material. Real raw and in their earliest form."The only previous vinyl pressing appeared briefly in Italy as a magazine kiosk bonus. It sold out instantly, was never placed into retail distribution, and is now almost impossible to locate. This Brutal Planet Records edition finally gives Unburied a proper physical home with upgraded sound mastered for vinyl by Rob Colwell, a traditional jacket, and a 12x12 lyric insert.
