Brutalismus 3000 are the Berlin-based duo of producer Theo Zeitner and singer Victoria Vassiliki Daldas, two musical visionaries who’ve established themselves as the world’s most singularly exhilarating techno band. With their sophomore album, Harmony, Brutalismus 3000 have crafted their most definitive artistic statement yet. The genre-jumbling record is a breathless amalgamation of headbangable trap beats, mosh-worthy dubstep drops, and mind-wiping gabber sprints that marks a huge leap from the band’s minimalist techno beginnings. Co-produced by Boys Noize and 100 gecs’ Dylan Brady, and boasting guest appearances from British techno icons Underworld and actress Anya Taylor-Joy, Harmony is a masterstroke of controlled chaos. The kind of lyrically provocative, melodically addicting, musically energizing triumph that only Brutalismus 3000 could pull off.

Enter the debut LP of the now Spatial regular Chronicle - Expect a joyous, varied blend of old school brand new atmospherics from one of the scene's most talented producers.A1 - 20th Century ManStraight into the beats for the deliciously cheery opening, 20th Century Man encapsulates so much of what Chronicle does best - old school breakbeat sensibilities delivered with an inimitable atmospheric charm, strongly reminiscent of that peak Good Looking era we all adored. Incredible synthwork and analogue drums layered with danceable 2-step breaks and melodies take your mind exactly where you want to be.A2 - TerraformersSeminal synths and birdsong effects prepare us for an impossibly crisp breakbeat and 808 bassline to drive this track along, colored by a myriad of subtle blips and bleeps, delicately flecked across a detailed and optimistic soundscape. Very DJ-friendly from the first to the final bar, the purity of Chronicle's approach to atmospheric drum & bass is once again at it's best here on Spatial.B1 - Boundless SpacePlayful twittering birds, gentle hi-hats and panning synths introduce Boundless Space, a blissful, serene treat for the senses which soon kicks into flourishing life with the timeless Circles break. Vocal samples punctuate the soothing breakdown with exquisitely programmed effects dotted here, there and everywhere, completing a stunning composition that both reflects on the past and looks forward in equal measure.B2 - Ephemeral StyleA light, delicately calming pad-laden intro with echoing melodies opens Ephemeral style, soon punctuated by a sublime 808 bassline preceding the drop. Chronicle showcases his dancefloor breakbeat prowess with an energetic 2-step break pattern, expertly programmed and riddled with detail and density, creating a wonderful collage of sound and a perfect addition to any era-spanning atmospheric set.C1 - Modular ExpansionEerily reminiscent tones harking back to the golden, ultra-classic Good Looking era introduce us to Modular Expansion, a track which quickly adds layer upon layer of original identity to the vibe with crisp breaks, a wonderful metallic backdrop snare and subtle vocal samples. The joyously retrospective breakdown complements the energy of the track beautifully, capping off another gem for the record box.C2 - Limbic SystemChronicle introduces Limbic System with swathes of swirling pads and synths, straddled with a subtle yet enigmatic melody carrying us through the drop, where we are treated to a lusciously constructed old school break pattern with a modern twist. Enter the breakdown and the keen ear will spot sampled quotes from Total Recall, which fit the vibe perfectly. "You went to Recall?" - yes, we sure did. And we enjoyed the trip!D1 - Non-EuclidianContinuing the blissful retrospective atmospheric tone of the album, Chronicle serves up Non-Euclidian which opens with a wonderfully synthy intro flecked with old school break samples and an earworm melody, before the onslaught of layered breaks provides variety as well as a thoroughly danceable pattern to unleash on the discerning dancefloor. Trademark dotted effects punctuate the track throughout.D2 - Deep ThoughtCapping off the LP we have Deep Thought, setting a calming and quietly brooding vibe before impossibly crisp beats kick in and elevate proceedings nicely. Chronicle effortlessly leads the listener through the drop with an analogue punch, earthy basslines and fluttering effects with the kind of flair we've come to love from such a vastly experienced and talented producer - perfectly complementing the vibe here at Spatial.Words by Chris Hayes (Spatial / Red Mist) UPC: 899123053365Label: SpatialRelease Date: 5.29.26Format: Vinyl
Allison de Groot is a clawhammer banjo player from Winnipeg, Canada whose work spans old-time, bluegrass, and folk traditions. A recipient of the Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and an Americana Music Association Instrumentalist of the Year nominee, she is perhaps best known for her duo with fiddler Tatiana Hargreaves, whose albums Hurricane Clarice and their self-titled debut earned recognition from the IBMA, the Canadian Folk Music Awards, and the JUNOs.Rich Ruth is a Nashville-based multi-instrumentalist (born Michael Ruth) who records for Third Man Records. His albums draw from ambient, spiritual jazz, minimalism, and synth-driven post-rock - compositions that begin with looping drones and synthesizers and expand outward through collaboration. His 2024 LP Water Still Flows is his most recent record. The two came together when Ruth was set to produce a solo record for de Groot. Over the course of about a year in Ruth's Nashville studio, the project quietly shifted - the two began composing together, and what emerged is shaped as much by space and process as by melody. de Groot's clawhammer banjo moves through looping and delay, set against Ruth's synthesizer arrangements in a way that balances the tactile immediacy of acoustic instruments with the enveloping qualities of electronics. Patrick M'Gonigle contributed violin and string arrangements throughout, and pedal steel from Spencer Cullum adds further color to the record's palette.Shortly after completing the album, the group debuted the material live at Big Ears Festival as one of the event's surprise performances - a stripped, minimalist set that reflected the spirit of the recordings. The album captures two distinct musical voices finding not so much a meeting point as a new, shared language.

Hogar is the new album from El Búho, the project of British-born producer Robin Perkins. Known for his fusion of Latin American folk, organic electronica, dub, field recordings and natural sound, El Búho's new album explores these influences through the lens of home. While Hogar translates to home in Spanish, it is a word that goes beyond a physical place. Rooted in the Latin word focaris, meaning hearth or fire, hogar evokes family, belonging, shelter, intimacy and the sense of feeling safe somewhere in the world. For Robin, the album grew out of the experience of building a home with his family in France, while also reflecting on migration, displacement and the climate crisis. It is a meditation on what home means in a world where so many people are forced to leave theirs, to create a home somewhere else or to search for belonging. The album is built around a series of found sounds, recordings of Robin's home life, recordings on the road, of islands, of meetings with friends over food and tea. Underpinning each track is a texture that grounds it in a place or a memory. Hogar shows the growth and maturity in El Búho's sound, fusing Latin American music with texture, electronica and found sound in a moving new way. It is an album that deserves to be listened to at home, as a whole. An album about the homes we inherit, the homes we build, the homes we lose, and the homes we create in each other.

HIKARIGASASHIKOMU translates as 'Light Shines In', a Japanese phrase conveying a sense of hope in a difficult place. Opening new creative possibilities for Foodman, this astonishing album is an introspective yet hyperactive body of work, representing the clarity and light found after a period of self-exploration. While this is a deeply personal record, it also captures the now-universal sound of a brain stretched between 500 open tabs, multitasking into oblivion in a world in which attention deficit is a global media environment, not merely a privatized psychological malaise.Focusing more on the use of voice, the album incorporates Foodman's own looped vocals, singing elements of Japanese children's songs and playground rhymes, and his everyday thoughts. Despite it's charm and innocence, this soundworld leaps around manically, fractures and dissolves. Foodman's voice repeats, disassembles, speeds up and down and is bounced around deliriously, as sound elements call and respond around him.Structurally and vocally, influences are drawn from footwork, ghetto house, and baile funk, all of which are maximally abstracted into bursts of spiralling psychedelic effects.
