Violinist Jascha Heifetz, playing with the New Symphony Orchestra of London, conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent. Heifetz was the leading figure among the extraordinary group of Russian Jews who dominated violin playing in the second and third quarters of the 20th century. As a technician he had no superior, and, of all the artists of his time and later, only two or three could even offer a challenge to his electrifying precision of execution. His diamond-point tone and quick vibrato afforded his playing a clarity of line that some felt was almost too perfect, even cold. Most conductors and other violinists - and audiences - felt differently and a Heifetz concert inevitably drew sell-out crowds. Within the RCA Living Stereo catalog, few recordings capture the balance of virtuosity, refinement, and sonic brilliance as this remarkable pairing of Glazounov and Mozart. At the center is, of course, Jascha Heifetz - the violinist whose name became synonymous with perfection. Here he delivers one of his most commanding and lyrical readings of Glazounov's Violin Concerto, a work that was very much his own calling card. Backed by conductor Walter Hendl, Heifetz brings both dazzling precision and an almost vocal warmth that turns the concerto into a soaring narrative. Many collectors regard this as among his greatest concerto performances on record. The companion work, Mozart's Symphonie Concertante in E-Flat, adds yet another dimension. Joined by the legendary violist William Primrose and guided by conductor Izler Solomon, Heifetz reveals his chamber instincts in a performance that feels both intimate and grand. The interplay between violin and viola has rarely been captured with such finesse, each phrase glowing with personality while maintaining Mozart's classical balance. For classical enthusiasts and collectors alike, this album represents the essence of what made RCA's Living Stereo series legendary: great artists at their peak, captured in sound that has stood the test of time. DECCA UK - DVORAK / SEIJI OZAWA / SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY - SYMPHONY 9 FROM THE NEW WORLD MIXED AND MASTERED FROM THE ORIGINAL PHILIPS QUADRAPHONIC TAPESSeiji Ozawa's arrival in 1970 as music director of the San Francisco Symphony was later vividly described by Obama: "with his mop haircut, and his turtlenecks, and his love beads, he almost looked like a Beatle". This May 1975 recording of Dvorák's New World Symphony was one of the last to be made quadraphonically by Philips and specially remixed for this reissue. For this release Rainer Maillard at Emil Berliner Studios has used the original, four-track quadraphonic master tape to make a new stereo mix sent directly to the cutter head. This preserves a pure analogue path throughout. The Philips engineers of the 1970s would similarly have mixed the four front and rear channels before cutting but this downmix would have resulted in a two-track stereo copy for mastering, whereas here the lacquer is cut directly from a `live' mix into stereo from the four Quad channels.

Stephen Hough's four Rachmaninov Piano Concertos have long been viewed as reference recordings of this iconic repertoire, the standard by which others must be judged. Bolstered by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Andrew Litton, Hough made a conscious return to the fast and lean performance tradition of the composer himself, avoiding the sentimental 'Hollywood' approach that had become so prevalent, for this triumphantly successful, awards-lavished Rachmaninov cycle. A 3LP set.

The Schwetzingen Festival concerts were dedicated to Chopin in 1999 on the 150th anniversary of his death. Four pianists were invited to the event. Three of them, Lilya Zilberstein, Anatole Ugorski and Andrei Gavrilov were 'stars' of Deutsche Grammophon. The fourth was Idil Biret who had not attained 'star' status as it was only available to those with contracts with the so-called "major" record labels. But, she had been the first pianist ever to record the complete works of Chopin for solo piano and with piano and orchestra for Naxos, received a Grand Prix du Disque Frederic Chopin in Warsaw in 1995 for this and was to be decorated with one of the highest orders of Poland by President Kaczynsky in 2007. Idil Biret did something no other pianist could do. Dr. Peter Stieber wrote: "Your own Chopin evening was then the breath-taking testimony of a great artist. We all could experience together how in your hands the wonderful music of Chopin begun truly to blossom." UPC: 747313292721Label: NaxosRelease Date: 4.17.26Format: Vinyl
This record includes Falla's Dance from the Three-Cornered Hat and La Vida Breve and Albeniz's Trina from Oberia. Transcribed for Orchestra by Arbos. Great performances and sensational sonics!Among Spaniards there is no greater composer than Manuel de Falla - the tang of the country, the swirl of it's landscape, the passion of it's people are proudly stamped on every note he wrote. Goyescas, written in 1915 by the Spanish composer Enrique Granados, was the first opera performed in Spanish at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City at it's premier in January 1916. The Intermezzo from the opera, inspired by the paintings of Francisco Goya, became a popular independent concert piece. Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz composed the Iberia suite for piano between 1905 and 1909. It was his best-known work and considered his masterpiece.Mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original 2-track master tape, cut at 45 RPM and plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings - makers of the world's finest-sounding vinyl LPs. On Looks Far Woman, cellist and composer Aliya Ultan creates a work shaped byrestlessness, burnout, and the slow reassembly of the self. The album isorganized as a six-part song cycle - Wind S ong, Road S ong, Mountain S ong,S ky S ong, S eed S ong, and Heart S ong - each functioning less as a discretecomposition than as a threshold state. Together, they form a gradual movementthrough elemental forces, inward attention, and embodied listening. The album takes it's name from a guiding figure in Ultan's internal mythology: aseer and protector who moves between worlds, carrying the medicine ofprophecy, patience, and repair. Inspired by the Looks Far Woman story in JamieSams' The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers, the figure shapes the album'sconceptual and emotional arc. Recorded at a moment when Ultan was physicallydepleted from years of touring, teaching, and professional musical labor, thesessions embraced exhaustion as a point of access rather than an obstacle.Working within a hypnagogic state - the fragile interval between wakefulnessand sleep - Ultan allowed dream imagery, sensation, and memory to shape themusic's pacing and form.Recorded, mixed, and produced by Randall Dunn, Looks Far Woman unfolds as acontinuous ritual space rather than a collection of songs. It asks the listener toslow down, release linear expectation, and travel without a fixed destination -offering sound as a means of return to the body, to rest, and to what has beenpatiently gathered back together.

"Joseph Haydn not only liked surprising his audiences, he also enjoyed a laugh," writes Christian Moritz-Bauer in the introduction to this sixteenth volume of the Haydn2032 complete recording of the symphonies. Take, for instance, the false conclusion of Symphony No. 90, composed in 1788: the music seems to have reached the last chord but, after a pause, the movement resumes to end with a powerful coda. Another example of Haydn's mischievous wit is the famous Andante "with the drumstroke" that forms the "surprise" of Symphony No. 94, a fortissimo chord designed to wake up audiences who dozed off towards the end of his concerts. In this volume focused on humour, Giovanni Antonini pays tribute to a great admirer of Haydn, Gioachino Rossini, by recording the sparkling opening Sinfonia of La scala di seta (The Silken Ladder), a one-act opera written in 1812. Shade Zero is the debut full-length by flutist and composer Taiga Ultan, articulating a distinctive compositional voice through an examination of theparadox between freedom and rules in contemporary music. Rather thantreating freedom as the absence of structure, Ultan approached composition byconstructing rigorous, self-imposed systems and then intentionally misusingand dismantling them. The album reflects the idea that rules persist even whendenied, shaping sound through habit and assumption, and seeks to disruptthose patterns by working directly against them.Unfolding across three related movements, the album traces a gradual shift fromvirtuosic, tonal flute playing grounded in classical technique, through extendedflute techniques and expanded sonic vocabulary, to works incorporating poetryand personal reflection. Recorded, mixed, and produced by Randall Dunn, ShadeZero introduces Ultan as a compelling new artist, documenting a reorientationaway from institutional frameworks toward an inward, self-determined musicalpractice developed in rural Maine.

Mauricio Kagel's Acustica (1968-70), composed for experimental sound producers and loudspeakers, stands among his most ambitious and radical works. Combining electro-acoustic tape material created at WDR with acoustic performances on roughly 200 graphic-score cards, it embodies Kagel's idea of instrumentales theater - where sound, gesture, and performer presence merge into a single dramatic and musical act. The work explores an expanded field of musicality, using invented instruments and found objects to free sound from traditional performance conventions. Avantgarde Vinyl Series features limited and numbered editions pressed on 180g vinyl with original artwork and a newly designed, beautifully crafted collector's sleeve with new liner notes by Bradford Bailey.
