This follows their acclaimed Diversions release in 2024 (re)inventions a deux pianos (DDV 24172), a complete recomposition for two pianos of J.S. Bach's 15 two-part inventions, praised by BBC Music Magazine as 'an invigorating and beguiling spring clean for the ears.' Yulia Vershinina first encountered Kurtag's transcription of the Sonatina from J.S. Bach's Cantata Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit ten years ago, and drawn to it's intimacy, the Duo have longed to record it. It's included on the album alongside six new four-hand reimaginings of J.S. Bach cantata sections composed by Chiahu Lee, and in doing so the duo have formed an imagined cantata of their own, bringing Bach's vocal world into the shared space of one piano, embodying the joy, spontaneity, and trust of their unique partnership.The album opens with the exhilarating and joyful arrangement of Sinfonia 'Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir' (BWV 29), followed by the Chorale 'Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme' (BWV 140), both bringing to mind the layered textures of electronic music. The Chorale Prelude 'Nun freut euch, lieben Christen g'mein' (BWV 734) successfully manages the tricky task of translating the various different instrumental colours into one shared keyboard. Chorale Prelude 'Ich ruf zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ' (BWV 639) was inspired in part by Kurtag's transcription style: intimate, spare, and intensely concentrated, and is followed by his long-awaited arrangement of the Sonatina 'Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit' (BWV 106). Chia- Chia has waited since childhood to play Aria 'Alles, was von Gott geboren' (BWV 80), and to bring this beloved vocal moment into the shared space of four hands. Duck. Little Brother, Duck!'s second and final full-length, Don't Take Our Filth Away, explores numerous strains of underground rock fauna throughout it's 45-minute runtime. Over the course of ten tracks, the Portland, Oregon four-piece tease apart fragments of math rock, emo, noise rock, and screamo, recombining them into a knotted, vibrant evolution from their sprawling 15-song debut Survival Is Not a Workout. Guitars converse with one another in the stereo field, stopping on a dime as if to change the subject, and then squeal with feedback into downtrodden passages that spontaneously erupt with euphoric abandon and introspective complexity. Vocals alternate between prominent gang-sung wails and buried-in-the-mix screams, constantly shifting the contours of the band's already serpentine writing style. Although the band's final album-length statement, Don't Take Our Filth Away's densely arranged, erratic compositions provide ample paths to lose oneself, and keep returning for years to come.

Peddler Themes by Skyzoo brings together a compact set of tracks that highlight his storytelling skills and his feel for classic hip-hop arrangements; the release dates back to 2017 and was described in coverage as a project firmly rooted in boom bap, with eight tracks in total. Musically, Skyzoo leans on densely woven sample textures, tight drum patterns, and precise rhyme schemes that sit at the forefront of the production. Contributors include producers like Illmind and Apollo Brown; on select cuts Skyzoo contributes beats of his own, which keeps the EP multi-layered both in content and in sound. The production largely sticks to classic sonic elements, augmented by occasional modern touches. Lyrically, Skyzoo moves between observations from everyday life and references to hip hop tradition, with nostalgic samples and direct nods to his influences structuring the tracks. Concrete uses of samples, such as the Cortex loop on "Long Money" or the intro from "Wild Style" on "For Real (er)", underscore the deliberate connection to earlier sound sources. The edition released on Old Soul Music documents this phase in Skyzoo's work and puts the producers and sample choices at the center of the listening experience.

Frank and Francesco. It all began with a misunderstanding. In the early 1980s Frank Zappa came across an entry on "Zappa" in the New Grove Dictionary, only to discover it concerned an obscure 18th-century Milanese composer of almost the same name. Convinced he had found an ancestor, Frank investigated Francesco Zappa and in 1984 devoted an entire album to him (his 42nd) - saving him from oblivion and, as he proudly noted, producing his first recording in over 200 years. Some forty years later, that misunderstanding inspired this Il Pomo d'Oro project: a recording adventure bringing together Francesco's galant music, Frank's 'contemporary' works for string quintet, and some original compositions, where all hierarchies are abandoned. Giovanni Sollima, a native of Palermo like Frank's family, brings his own sound world in dialogue with both Zappas. Vanni Moretto, a Milanese like Francesco and a leading expert on 18th-century Milanese music, imagines a posthumous revenge: what if Francesco had rewritten Frank's music? He does precisely that, composing a sinfonia concertante to match Francesco's own. We walked into Howl & Moan on a trip up to Byron Bay and they told us about them. They sold us this record that had just come in. And it was so good that we bought them all - all 100 - from the band to sell to you - and they sold out all around the world. But we believe in it. And we wanted to give it a wider audience. And now their new single 'The Crop' is going viral on YouTube. We watched the videos from their - own, self-curated - festival, Anemoia. They made and edited them too. Our jaws picked themselves up from the floor. Liminal made this all themselves. The feeling that we had was similar to that first time we heard Innerspeaker.
