Shygirl calls SWALLOW! a reintroduction. Her 2022 debut, Nymph, took her from the electronic underground to the foreground of contemporary pop. She’s collaborated with Sega Bodega and Mura Masa, Charli xcx, Arca, SOPHIE, fka twigs, and Bjork. Swallow! is a new kind of rapturous indie songwriting, woven through the electronica she came from, recorded with Karma Kid and Casey MQ. “I want people to remember how big the world is even when you feel so small and singular” she says. If Sylvie's New Season were a movie, Ben Schwab would be the auteur, screenwriting and directing the vision, articulating his story through a cast of actors. In truth, New Season is a record of the freewheeling country-rock variety, Sylvie's first with Ghostly International, and it finds the Los Angeles-based artist at the helm of a rotating ensemble, arriving at pure, joyous expression and renewed faith in the face of hardship. It's a rare and refined kind of musical gesture, both intimate and all-embracing, self-produced, penned singularly, delivered collectively. An invitation to find beauty in life's trials and to trust that even the longest winters can give way to a new season.Like Sylvie's self-titled effort, New Season still rings of the sunny, lighthearted, and smooth 1960s and '70s pop, rock, and country sonics that have become the project's signature. While Schwab constructed that 2021 project mainly with friends in his orbit, stemming from his time playing in Drugdealer's band and other peripheral projects, he has broadened the scope tenfold for his full-length debut, New Season. The shapeshifting collective executes on an alluring mix of nostalgic and modern sensibilities, recalling the free-spiritedness of Laurel Canyon and bohemian-era Nashville with a contemporary sheen.

In 2006, the three members of Young Widows emerged from the dissolution of beloved Louisville hardcore band, Breather Resist, with a new vision steeped in dark, brooding grooves and moody post-punk. From the reverb-drenched inspiration of post-hardcore pioneers like Fugazi and Hoover to the bass and drums lock-groove perfected by The Jesus Lizard and Melvins, Young Widows proudly wore their influences on their sleeves. The inventive guitar work of vocalist/guitarist Evan Patterson (Black Cross, The National Acrobat) was just entering it's peak, while the rhythm section of Nick Thieneman and original drummer Geoff Paton laid down impenetrable grooves. In 2026 we celebrate the 20th anniversary of Young Widows' enduring debut with Settle Down City -Â Anniversary Edition. Remastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Sunn O)))) and repackaged from the original restored artwork, Settle Down City -Â Anniversary Edition includes a previously unreleased bonus track -Â the dense and intense "White Water," originally recorded during the Settle Down City sessions. This is the definitive edition of the album that began Young Widows' two-decade journey to becoming one of the most interesting and influential noise-rock bands of the 21st Century.

Twisted Teens - aka Caspian Halliwell and RJ Santos - didn't really exist before it's 2024 debut LP, now known as The Orange Album. The pair had been making music from Cajun/country to anarcho-folk under the radar and off the grid, living and working itinerantly. Twisted Teens came from a pandemic-induced burst of inspiration that drew them together to record, in suitably lo-fi fashion, at Caspian's New Orleans home. Their first album quickly became a modern classic of sticky, warm rock, bunching blues, folk, and punk into a raw and irresistible concoction. The duo came back strong in 2026 with Blame the Clown - instantly, enthusiastically cosigned Pitchfork and Paste - and then the equally acclaimed Florida Water Blues, an absurdist take on their wanderings around the world.Their third magnetic and perfectly ragged album of 2026 is a saga of heartbreak and hidden triumph called The Holy Cross Tigers. The songs are anthems of longing, and myriad disappointments, fueled by everything from a brutal breakup to snitching ex-friends. Despite these woes, The Holy Cross Tigers has a sense of radiance, a feeling of reflected light pushing against the sadness. Instantly relatable, it feels like a few friends sharing the burdens of life with one another, the results strange and ecstatic because they are operating by their own rules. It is a blown-out transmission from the lip of heartbreak, a place where even the lucky have been and from which they have hopefully returned.

Mike Ladd. Those who know say the name with a certain reverence. If you will allow an imperfect analogy, Ladd is underground hip hop's Terrence Malick: an uncompromising auteur whose early work was both unconventional and critically acclaimed before he abruptly withdrew from the scene he helped build and decamped to Paris, never to be heard from again. Of course, the reality is more complex than the legend. Mike Ladd never stopped making music; over the years he's popped up on all sorts of unexpected collaborations-who could forget his searing appearance on billy woods' Aethiopes-soundtracked a Netflix series, and worked with visual artists in settings like the Pantheon in Paris. That's not even counting all the stages he ripped as part of various touring bands and live acts. Still, Ladd's last solo album was more than ten years ago, and his magnum opus Welcome to the Afterfuture dropped in early 2000. If we are going to follow the analogy, Nonechosen is Mike Ladd's The Thin Red Line. A granite testament to the fact that the artist has evolved and grown, but maintains the same gravitas that made his name what it is. Here we are, deep into the Afterfuture and it's as though Ladd had always been waiting for this time, building towards this moment."Now you know why I remained in my station," he raps on Nonechosen, confident that his patience has paid off. Nonechosen is a solo album, but Ladd will be the first to tell you that he didn't do it alone; He has always worked with old friends. No Surrender and Tom Degeeter collaborated on respective tracks. Once Mike got the record 95% there with his own production, he passed it on to Preservation, who, with a few well-placed tweaks, elevated the project to new heights. Backwoodz Studioz is honored to be part of Ladd's comet-like return, and excited to properly introduce this seminal artist to a new generation of hip-hop fans while we're at it.

Nashville's Jess Kerber focuses on the profound resonances of simple moments, pairing delicate acoustic guitar lines with her rich and captivating tenor. 'The World Is Dark, but I Want It to Be Funny,' her second LP for Felte, is a deeply affecting collection of homespun poetry and natural artistry that finds the artists reflecting on personal history, the emotional intricacies of relationships, and the value of cosmic perspective. She explains,"These songs come from a space of feeling a little left behind, so a lot of the album is about realizing and accepting impermanence, and learning how to be good to yourself and to others."Opening with "Familiar Strangers", Kerber gets to the heart of her greatest talents: fluid fingerpicking, emotive vocal cadences, feather-light touches of piano, and subtle harmonies. "Louisiana Song" positions a lyrical chain of childhood recollections up against the literal rising waters that will one day submerge a cherished place: "I think about being southern / and the sand on the gulf coast / When I think about returning / I am wading in a graveyard".Throughout The World Is Dark, Kerber navigates an emotional tightrope, fully aware of the ills of the world while trying to find connections and peaceful corners. Even with all their nuances and challenges, she suggests, our relationships are essential to staying grounded, even when we lose them. "Much of my writing is about facing the struggles head-on, balancing what you need to do to survive while remaining true to yourself," she says. There are echoes of influences like Joni Mitchell, Gillian Welch, and Lomelda, though Kerber injects her own unique wit, wonder, and humility into every passage, allowing the listener into her head for a spell while quietly taking up residence in theirs.

The Constellation debut from Palestinian-Canadian guitarist, organiser, and harm-reduction worker Bilal Nasser draws upon his training in classical guitar and influences from punk, post-rock, and contemporary composition. Conceived during the student encampment movement protesting the Gaza genocide, Every Martyr Is A Universe emerges from the impossible question of art's worth and meaning under such conditions, primarily recorded at Nasser's DIY space Uma Loft in Windsor, Ontario and enlisting nine musicians from this community to help render the album's stately orchestrations, channeling a collective response of solidarity, resistance, and lament. Nasser's previous two albums established a distinctive and accomplished acoustic guitar technique rooted in 20th classical, Robbie Basho, and various folkways, with a sensibility informed by shoegaze, ambient electronic, and indie rock. Every Martyr Is A Universe expands on this foundation as Nasser writes for a larger ensemble for the first time. While his acoustic guitar often still anchors this new work, the music is propelled by captivating string and horn arrangements, especially on the pair of longform post-rock meets post-classical pieces that comprise the album's first half. The opening title track unfolds as an elegantly restrained suite for strings, horns, and guitar that conveys elegiac solemnity but refuses conspicuous dolefulness, it's major-key theme expressing requiem as hopeful tribute and ongoing struggle, it's counterpoint melodies weaving communion and resilience. The piece briefly gathers pace toward the middle of it's eleven-minute arc, driven by Nasser's thrumming guitar, a moment of urgency that evokes anxiety, ascendance, and defiance, that gives way to the album's first discordant harmonic shifts and a thematic restatement of fragility, with haunting electroacoustic ambience closing the track in disquietude. This flows directly into "Erasure", where we hear Nasser's vaporous vocals for the first time, over a post-classical shoegaze intro that dovetails into a fleeting moment of ambient hardcore before the song's central riff builds in durational repetition, various instruments alternately joining and adorning, ending in a final movement of ebulliently layered Minimalism and rockist drums for the album's most overtly epic passage. Side Two is more rooted in Nasser's prior solo practice: "And Where They Make A Desert They Call It Peace" juxtaposes foreboding drone-based sound design with an archival recordingof legendary Palestinian author and militant Ghassan Kanafani, followed by "Who We UsedTo Be" and "Soul Of My Soul", both featuring Nasser's gorgeously delicate singing and assured songwriting, blending fingerpicked guitar with an ear for organically evolving arrangements full of harmonic and textural detail in an ebb and flow of strings, horns, piano and electronics.Every Martyr Is A Universe also sits powerfully within Constellation's own history and horizons, in stylistic and political conversation with label artists like Thee Silver Mt. Zion, Do Make Say Think, Esmerine, and Black Ox Orkestar. Fans of those bands - and the combination of genre-blending compositional avant-gardism and accessibility, punk-inflected assertiveness andauthenticity, and heart-on-sleeve emotiveness they represent - will find a compelling and complementary voice in Bilal Nasser. Thanks for listening.

CocoRosie is the Casady sisters, Bianca and Sierra. Â Born in different states, the girls grew up apart until fate brought them together again in 2003: once disconnected, now inseparable. After the mysterious and beautiful La Maison de Mon Reve surfaced in early 2004, CocoRosie lived a nomadic existence, spending months traveling the world with a myriad of acts, including Bright Eyes, TV on the Radio, Antony and the Johnsons, Devendra Banhart, and Blonde Redhead. Along the way, Noah's Ark began to breathe. Â It happened anytime, anywhere, everywhere: in a barn in France, at their home in Brooklyn, in a Parisian studio, in a grungy hotel room after a show. Â The songs were formed and fashioned in various ways, using anything from prehistoric recording methods to more modern techniques.Heart-offerings of friends, family, loved ones and lost ones surface gracefully throughout Noah's Ark, contributing depth to the narrative journey. A mother's chant, a nephew's cry. Antony's angelic falsetto floating across "Beautiful Boyz." The texture and flow that French MC and beat boxer Spleen adds to "K-hole," "Bisounours" and more. Originally released in 2005, Noah's Ark is the result of a rootless reality, a drifting consciousness across state lines, date lines, time lines... connected to the past, vague about the future. But the heart of these songs is always issued from a tender present.

Jozef Van Wissem and Jim Jarmusch’s Bocca di Lupo and Mouth of the Wolf were recorded in July 2025 in Bologna, Italy. The recording sessions took place just after several live dates in New York and Chicago, and a week before they began a short European tour which included Paris, London, Ghent, Porto, and a first date in Bologna.
Below are notes from Jozef and Jim directly.
“With thanks to Gian Luca Farinelli and Rosanna Mordini from the extraordinary Cineteca di Bologna, we were able to secure recording days in the very cool Fonoprint Studios — located on Via Bocca di Lupo in Bologna, hence the titles of these two LPs. (“In bocca al lupo” — in the mouth of the wolf — is the Italian idiom for wishing one good luck; equivalent to “break a leg” in English.)
Bocca di Lupo starts with a new version of our own “Only Lovers Left Alive,” and “Apology” is a new version of a pre-existing piece by Jozef. All other tracks are new originals. We were honored to have guest duet vocals from the iconic Courtney Barnett on “Never Like You Said.” The lyrics of the song arrived spontaneously in a single take in the studio. It’s not directed at a specific person, but more an emotional response to several disingenuous, deceitful people — a closing of the door on their toxic behavior. And a casually recorded conversation (concerning the haunted auras of particular pieces of vintage women’s clothing) between Adriana Coppi and Veronica Mayrr (from Deux Femmes) is woven as a background into the track titled “Pour Deux Femmes.” “Black Roses” is an original poem written in Bologna, and recited from within its own musical setting. All other tracks are instrumentals.
Mouth of the Wolf, the second LP, consists of two longer, darkly ecstatic instrumental studio tracks — “In A” and “Massa Damnata.” Both were created with two electric guitars, and derived from our live performances. We consider it to be a musically separate album, and is therefore presented in its own sleeve and with its own artwork.
Our music has many inspirations — everything from our friends in Sunn O))) and Swans to Terry Riley and Morton Feldman; from Hildegard Von Bingen and WIlliam Lawes to Psychic Ills and Spacemen 3; from Les Rallizes Dénudés and NEU! to Nadja and Glenn Branca; from Ian Svenonius and Dead Skeletons to Son House and Gwenifer Raymond…from sunset to sunrise…full moon to new moon…”

Originally released in 1987, 'Tired Eyes Slowly Burning' marked the first full-length album from The Tear Garden, the collaborative project formed by cEvin Key of Skinny Puppy and Edward Ka-Spel of The Legendary Pink Dots. Far more than a meeting of two influential artists, the album established a distinctive identity of it's own, blending industrial electronics, psychedelic ambience and progressive experimentation into an immersive sonic world. Key's intricate synthesizer textures, hypnotic rhythms and inventive studio techniques intertwine with Ka-Spel's unmistakable vocals, creating richly layered compositions that reveal new details with every listen. Revered as a cult classic, 'Tired Eyes Slowly Burning' established the creative identity that would define The Tear Garden across the decades that followed.

For over a decade, Ciarán has been one of modern music's most intriguing and elusive creative voices. Best known as the vocalist, songwriter and producer FKA Bearface in BROCKHAMPTON who disbanded in 2022, his contributions helped shape some of the group's most beloved and emotionally resonant moments, earning a devoted global following drawn to his singular blend of vulnerability, melody and experimentation. Ciarán's debut solo album, RóisÃn, explores the tension between softness and strength, beauty and brutality. Created between New York and collaborative writing sessions with close friends, the LP blends delicate melodies with distorted textures, warped production and unpredictable shifts in sound, the album captures an artist embracing experimentation and breaking free from expectation.

The River is Lincoln Halloran's first album as Hello Shark in a decade. Since the project's 20011 debut, the Kittery, Maine-based songwriter has favored sparse arrangements and contemplative, heartfelt lyricism. The River, the project's fourth and most fully realized record, marks the return of a beloved singer-songwriter and affirms why Hello Shark has continued to grow a devoted following even in absentia. In 2018, Halloran left Philadelphia, where he had been living for the past five years, and floated around the south, working odd service jobs. "I was pretty down and out, not writing or playing shows," he says. "I was a very functioning alcoholic, but then it became not too functioning." In 2022, he moved back to Maine, where his family now lives, and was hospitalized. As Halloran acclimated to sobriety, he began writing songs in earnest for the first time in many years. Halloran is hesitant to describe The River as an album about sobriety. "It's about looking back and grieving over living in a dark tunnel for so long," he says, "not fully available to people who are close to me." Though Hello Shark's music is rooted in reflection, Halloran now realizes that he had struggled to fully face the past, always changing names, fumbling details, relying on the distance of time and space. "Getting sober gave me the freedom to actually look," Halloran says. "Once I started doing that, I could write an honest-sounding song." The River opens with the title track, which Halloran calls "the first time I've written a song that's accurate to life at the moment, or in the present tense." The song describes a simple but steady life with a partner, a job at the old crooner bar, and a home down by the water. "I sold my truck/And I killed my plug/It's been two years, but I still miss her," Halloran softly croons, accompanied by harmonies from Florry's Francie Medosch. The image of solid roots planted perilously close to a rushing current speaks to Halloran's reality: in recovery while still slinging drinks at a local jazz bar. As he puts it, "I'm away from the moving chaos, but I stay close to it."Recorded with producer Garrett Linck, The River blends slowcore sprawl and introspective singer-songwriter tunes. Across these 10 tracks, Halloran's matter of fact lyricism captures moments of interpersonal minutiae, with stripped-down stories full of I's and you's. These songs touch on themes of longing and avoidance, with an emotional heft elevated by Halloran's conversational yet idiosyncratic voice. "In Hell" opens in media res, as he stumbles outside a bar and spots a now distant friend. "I loved watching you laughing/Outside, holding your friend crying," he wistfully croaks, "'Cause you're moving home/Are you still?" He finds profound reserves in the spaces between people, like on "The Moon," an elegiac ode that finds comfort in the glow of the TV screen. Ultimately, The River is a clear-eyed album that looks to the past as a means of moving forward and welcomes listeners with a tender embrace.
