The Dare is a four-piece all-girl band formed in November 2017 on Lombok Island, Indonesia. The members are Riri (vocals & guitar), Yollan (guitar), Meiga (bass), and Desita (drums). They released their debut EP 'Inthrovvvert' in 2018 and kicked off their live performances on April 21 of the same year at 'Record Store Day Lombok 2018. 'The band name 'The Dare' is derived from the Sasak word Dedare, meaning 'girl. ' Their name embodies the spirit of redefining girlhood as something brave and bold. Influenced heavily by the riot grrrl movement of the '90s, their music expresses resistance against gender discrimination, prejudice, and stereotypes-while also celebrating the joy of being a woman. Their sound is deeply inspired by indie pop bands from the K Records and Sarah Records scenes, as well as artists featured on the legendary C86 compilation-especially Heavenly and Tiger Trap. Growing up watching Japanese anime, the members also cite influences from theme songs like JUDY AND MARY's 'Sobakasu' (Rurouni Kenshin) and Hysteric Blue's 'Grow Up' (Ghost Stories), as well as Japanese punk and pop-punk bands like Shonen Knife and PiGGiES. In Indonesia's indie scene, The Dare commands a devoted following. Their limited-edition vinyl releases sell out instantly, and their packed live shows testify to their status as one of the most important indie pop bands in the region. Their latest EP, '369 Days' (2025), is a powerful work that touches on themes of life and death, love for those dearest, loss, and hope. The EP opens with the beachy instrumental 'White Sand' (A1), followed by pure sing-along guitar pop tracks like 'Sunburn' (A2) and 'Slanky Fools' (A3). Side B continues with the sparkling melancholy of 'Yes Sir!' (B1), the Dolly Mixture-inspired 'BLA BLA BLAH' (B2), the catchy, surf-tinged indie rock of 'Hello Mama' (B3), and more. With a total of eight tracks, this landmark release blends indie pop and twee pop with touches of riot grrrl, pop punk, surf, and tropical vibes-ready to take this Lombok-born girl group to the world stage. For Kacy Lee Anderson, not giving a fuck's a good look, and if the glitter is gone, then you might as well wear it yourself. The Sasketchawan-bred singer's been around the block for long enough, and made enough records - mostly with her cousin Clayton Linthicum in their duo, Kacy & Clayton - to know both the bright and the ugly sides of the music industry all too well. Now 29, she's witnessed it change plenty since making her earliest recordings as a teenager. She sees the industry with a vantage denied to the latest crop of young musicians who've never known a world without streaming and short-form video; all they've known is desperately vying for virality, putting the utmost importance on even the most short-lived social media hegemony. But that's just not Anderson's style: she's making music because she's always loved it, and she's writing the songs she wants to hear, whether anyone else cares or not. With her new album, Hello, I'm Irrelevant, she seems to be winkingly encouraging us all to follow her lead: work fast and move on, and don't bother looking over your shoulder. "I mean, the whole time I just said to everyone, 'I don't care if anyone likes this at all,'" the singer says. "I didn't tell any single person I was doing it. So that made it feel just like I could do whatever I wanted, and I wasn't thinking about how it would be received, or even thinking I would put it out. So having that mindset was pretty nice. *Hackney Electronica come to Dark Entries with the Feedback Memory EP, featuring 5 cuts of acidic rave-inflected wave. Quinn Whalley (Paranoid London), Unai Trotti (Cartulis Music), and Margo Broom (Hermitage Working Studios) formed Hackney Electronica during COVID era. Trotti and Whalley were spending countless hours digging through records and making music during lockdown. As their sound took shape - heavy and hypnotic - they invited Broom to join, cementing the motley trio. Following their debut EP, Synaptic Shadows, the five pieces on Feedback Memory muse on the loss of self in the digital era and the fine line between pleasure and paranoia. Each track pulses like a memory from the backstreets of Hackney, where the night transforms the city into an electrified maze of fleeting highs and inevitable crashes. Their hard-hitting dancefloor indulgences shine on "Trapped in the Circuit" and "Six Foot Seven," which features Mutado Pintado on vocals, while tweaked-out wave sounds blossom on "Feedback Memory" and "Lost Trip - Destino." Things close out with "Compressed Air," a lush, breakbeat-laced affair that veers into trip-hop territory. Housed in a sleeve designed by Germán Bardo, Feedback Memory continues Hackney Electronica's tumultuous journey through the flickering alleys of the mind, where tension and transcendence intertwine.

"'I have this Pavlovian response where I just expel songs," Chuck Roth explains. For the New York-based guitarist, the LP format is less a definitive product than a snapshot of his daily life and growing artistic practice. With last year's watergh0st songs, Roth was dedicated to 'mapping every voice, seeing where they come together and fall apart.' He's more interested in materiality on his new album, the expressive and intimate Texture Songs. Across it's seven tracks, he excavates the particularities of his Stratocaster, be it the guitar's characteristic pickups or capacity for volume swelling.Traces of some Texture Songs have existed for at least five years, evolving with every live performance, but their presentation on this album represents Roth in the now. At times that means technique. 'Gun' is built on a curiosity for hitting harmonics on the bottom string, letting them ring out, while 'Siren' is similarly defined by sustained buzzing sounds while string crossing. 'I get really into the shape of each note,' he says. You can sense that curiosity in the album's raw presentation, where every song invites a full feeling of every plucked note, every slide across the fretboard. On the shapeshifting 'Highway,' it sounds like you're there in the room with him, hearing his breath, sensing the shape of every chord, tracing each split-second change in attacking the guitar.Roth has felt most comfortable talking about his work with painters and visual artists, favoring descriptions via color and brightness over any technical language. It relates to his belief that music can be totally self-sufficient in it's meaning-making. While Roth sings on these tracks, he explains that 'it's actually the music that describes the emotions I've had.' Lyrics, then, are meant to 'decorate the border of a song's emotion without dictating it.' He likens the voice to a drummer's specific kick pattern: it's a conduit for counterpoint, conjuring greater specificity in the feelings evoked.Take 'Hometown Hero,' which is rooted in observations made on daily walks to work. In seeing his city change, he constructed the song as a 'violent document,' something heard in it's damaged guitar chords and turbulent vocal melodies. 'Siren' is the inevitable aftermath: the apathy and detachment that arrives as a means of survival. While relatively quiet, it's harmonics' smooth tones mask an underlying anxiety. Roth describes the beautifully complex 'Love Song' as a track made of code words, capturing his relationship with his partner in a language only they know. 'I'm trying to resist understanding my work,' he tells me. He and his music are in a constant feedback loop in this way, expanding and transforming in glorious, unknowable fashion." - Joshua Minsoo Kim UPC: 840526513710Label: PalilaliaRelease Date: 10.30.26Format: CD
