Silent Funk +1 returns with U Ain’t Special, a hard-hitting new album that embodies the raw, uncompromising spirit of underground hip-hop. Released through Bronx Sonics Records, U Ain’t Special is a statement of authenticity built for listeners who still value lyricism, rugged production, originality, and the independent spirit that has always driven hip-hop culture. The album title is a direct sentiment of how the trio of Rhinoceros Funk (emcee), Silent Someone (producer) and DJ JS-1 feel about the current generation of operators in the hip-hop space. As JS-1 states, “In this modern era where tech allows ANYONE to jump in and do anything, nothing is special. Most of the people everyone puts on pedestals are not even slightly special. They are dime a dozen with fantastic engagement on social media.” Or as Rhino succinctly states “Let me remind you of what’s inside you brother NOTHING!!! I ain’t special and if I ain’t special you ain’t special!”

This is the sound of dream Texas, the cinematic Texas conjured in film and 20th century literary and art myth... big dark blueing horizons swallowing the infinite distance, a lonely poetry of sound, but also a stock taker of the iconoclastic, psychedelic, art rebel side of Texas... The cracked rock music side of Texas, the avant-garde in concrete cracks, the recklessly used, mind expanding drugs Texas, the dripping eastern swamps, the Houston house parties with the sounds of records blasting down the block and becoming musique concrète in the hot summer night. Chrome Chasm's debut album Interpreter is ambient, minimal in feel, maximal in texture, beautifully disorienting, vastly spacious- until it isn't. It's a naturalistic shapeshifter, taking majestic form in the aforementioned elements and then dissolving back to raw genetic material to form anew. Spiritual jazz overtones, pedal steel moans and buzzing, noisy ambient visions are upended by grey-folded psychedelic unveilings. Interpreter's three expansive tracks present a most detailed performance by it's three deft musicians and the outcome often feels like a gorgeous collage in real-time. Chrome Chasm was formed in 2024 by three of Houston's brightest underground stars: Mlee Marie (Hearts Of Animals) on alto saxophone, flute and voice (whose long-form experimental sax performances helped inspire the formation of the band), Will Adams (Lower Dens/ Ka-Nives) on pedal steel, synth, percussion and voice, and Tom Carter on guitar. Carter has been casting a long shadow over Texas psychedelia and American underground music for over 3 decades, most notably with the Houston based Charalambides, a powerful creative force of the pre-new weird America era of experimental and avant psychedelic music, and most notably since with his solo guitar magnum opus Long Time Underground (which was deemed among the best experimental albums of 2015 by Pitchfork). Interpreter's opening track "The Star," recorded almost completely live in one room and one take, is a 16-minute manifesto on 'Dream Noir.' An astute scholar of cross-genre connectivity and the through-lines of kosmische and spiritual-leaning sonic realms can hear echoes of Cluster, the skronk and beauty of Rahsaan Roland Kirk, and the architectural ambient flow of Harold Budd and Philip Glass in the tidal lapping of distorted guitar, mantra-like saxophone and pedal steel flow. From it's deconstructed, pastoral opening moments to it's proto-electronic center that crests into a bombastic polytonal climax, Chrome Chasm never neglect narrative arc for experimentation and avant technique. In fact, as a group, they effortlessly control, open, fill and contract space in abeyance to emotional vibration. "The Star," and indeed the album as a whole, feels more like a communion or extended poem, in direct communication with the listener, than it does a 'captured experience.' Across the three longform tracks of Interpreter, Chrome Chasm conducts a masterclass in fusing real time performance energy with an abstract, cut-up master's reimagining of the literal. They demand the listener meet their music with dream logic and then, like the best dream peddlers, they present a labyrinth to fall into and experience, a place where explanation and conclusion become obsolete, and engagement and immersion become sublime. There is no grand, overarching storyline to Save As, the second solo album from Elena Tonra'sEx: Re project. Rather, the album - produced by Fabian Prynn and also featuring JosephineStephenson on cello, Hinako Omori on synthesisers, Ben Reed on bass and Jethro Fox on electricguitar - is the latest in the Daughter lead singer's catalogue of expert chronicles of the gnawingminutiae of human consciousness: the over-thinking that consumes us, and the places we travelto escape. The title of album opener "Radio Station", which begins with stately strummed acoustic guitarand morphs into a trippy song about an endless California roadtrip, is a metaphor for howTonra feels about her mind. "I end up getting stuck because I can't make decisions," she says.Demo recordings live on in many of the final cuts, as on "Sleep", which Tonra first recorded in ahotel room in Paris. The final version features a melodic loop made from the demo's acousticguitar run through a vocoder and a drum machine, which together offer a muffled quality to thesound, like hearing a party through a wall.Other tracks, such as the stand-out "Am I Even Real?", a Tonra-Prynn duet on which Tonra singsabout spaceships to ask whether she is being true to herself in a relationship, found their trueversion in the studio. That combination of long-held ideas stored in notebooks and on laptopswith unfiltered first thoughts and improvisations is key to the album's perfect mingling ofliveliness and deep thoughtfulness.

Computer Metal, the intense, singular new album from Master Boot Record, makes a bold statement across its 10 songs, kicking off with the first single, “DOT MATRIX” and wrapping up with “CTRL+ALT+DEL.” The follow-up to 2024’s Hardwarez, Computer Metal was written via MIDI in Cubase, with the computer as the main instrument. Computer Metal refines a hybrid of real guitar layered with synths and pushes the production to higher levels.Multi-instrumentalist mastermind Vittorio D'Amore explains the thrust of his latest opus: “Hardwarez was about the hardware, Computer Metal is more connected to what computers represented in our lives and the memory we have of them. This album is a sort of codex of the genre,” he says, “since each song expresses a different style of metal, while still being done with the computer.”

Sarcator take a decisive step forward with an album that expands beyond their extreme metal roots into a darker, hook-driven rock sound. Built on youthful energy and stripped-down intensity, the record favors memorable songwriting while retaining the ferocity of their signature death and blackened vocals.Conceptually, the album draws from gothic western imagery and atmosphere, weaving cinematic textures into its core. Echoes of Fields of the Nephilim and D-A-D meet the swagger of Guns N' Roses and the raw drive of The Hellacopters, all framed by a powerful, organic production reminiscent of the Metallica Bob Rock era.The result is a bold and dynamic statement the band call death’s rock, a sound that captures both their origins and their evolution.

Nothing else sounds like Drag Talk. On their debut album, Drink The Ocean, the L.A. band finds gauzy beauty in the fathomless chaos that surrounds us, their exquisite shoegaze guitars and Britpop melodicism skewed with Jutty Taylor's genre-fluid vocals.Harnessing '90s indie nostalgia to here-and-now emotional responses, Drag Talk's lush atmospherics, spacious beats, and hugely emotive hooks create something singular yet accessible and authentic. "I feel like we're hardcore punk dudes who love Oasis," offered guitarist Ross O'Carroll, whose pandemic home demos were the germ of the band in 2021.Drag Talk is a coming-together of like-minded friends with long, intertwined histories. O'Carroll and fellow guitarist Matt Ripp Bennett grew up together in Hawaii but had somehow never been in the same band. Taylor and drummer Hayden Scott (Awolnation, Paramore) were longtime bandmates in Grammy winning Swedish rock band Ghost. Third guitarist (yes, there are three) Neil Popkin played alongside Bennett in War Tapes, and even the band's producer, Tom Syrowski (The Killers, Mastodon, Pearl Jam), has been in their circle since the aughts.Drag Talk released their debut single, "Egyptian Flesh" in 2022 and the Dogs EP the following year. By the time they dropped follow-up EP Rosy Crown in 2024, they'd earned a cult following evidenced by sell-out shows on both coasts and a deal with MNRK Music Group. Due in September 2026, Drink The Ocean emerged from a period of personal tumult that almost broke the band, the album's very existence a bittersweet act of defiance.

Lauren Bousfield 'Palimpsest'Lauren Bousfield's (fka Nero's Day At Disneyland) debut for Deathbomb Arc finally returns to vinyl in 2026, with an exclusive Translucent Blue & Grey colorway for Fat Beats!Composer and electronics mastermind Lauren Bousfield has always displayed a virtuosic flare while ecstatically flying by our ears at lightning speed, seemingly from 10 directions at once. On her latest album, she brings a newfound expertise in orchestral arranging from her other work as a cinema composer, and puts vocals to the front. Much like her finger-blurring piano playing, these vocals seem to be passing us by at the speed of light. We know they're there, but they dance around us rather than beat straight into our bodies. Our souls feel these songs, not just our hips.

The Black Heart Procession consists of two main songwriters, Tobias Nathaniel and Pall A. Jenkins, who both were in three mile pilot. At times they play as a simply two piece, and at others they ask friends to join them. Mario Rubalcaba (clikitat ikitowi), Jason Crane (rocket from the crypt), and Kazu Makino (blonde redhead) chipped in on the making of three. originally released in 2000, three is The Black Heart Procession's third full-length release. #the sounds of the instruments come together t o support the rhythm of pall's rich vocals. #each song seems to move forward and back perpetually playing with a contrast between light tones and dark, brooding themes. The Black Heart Procession break hearts with the melded sounds o f piano, saw, pump organs, guitar, trumpet and vocals as well as the odd percussive instrument. #the sounds may cause some of you pain or joy, or both, as their music rings out with sorrow and heartache, yet there is an underlying element of emancipation.

Coke Bottle Clear VinylFor more than 20 years, every Caspian album has been driven by a desire to stretch boundaries - a relentless ambition that's resulted in one of post-rock's most revered catalogs and established the Massachusetts quintet as an enduring, global force in the genre's modern era. On Caspian, the band's first album in six years and debut for Wax Bodega, the more unexpected way forward was to stop searching for what they hadn't yet done and instead trust what had defined them from the beginning. The six-song, 39-minute effort draws freely from the musical vocabulary the band have spent their career writing: evocative melodic themes, dense textures, swelling crescendos and crushing heaviness that rolls in like a slow-moving storm on the horizon. But they still find new possibilities within those familiar contours, allowing patient development and repetition to carry as much weight as surprise. The nine-minute "Remain" turns a recurring melody into a sweeping study in tension and release, while "No One Left to Tell" layers subtle shifts around a hypnotic tremolo figure and "A Great Fire" sends serpentine guitars crashing into buzzsaw riffs. Even the graceful 3/4-time closer "Waltz for the End," completed in a half-hour burst of inspiration, reflects the quiet confidence of five musicians comfortable enough in their skin to resist tearing everything down for the sake of reinvention, even as the circumstances surrounding them change dramatically.

On Halloween night, October 31, 2000, Widespread Panic took the Austin City Limits stage for one of the most cherished performances in the band's history. It's the classic lineup - John Bell, Dave Schools, John "JoJo" Hermann, Todd Nance, and Domingo "Sunny" Ortiz - anchored by founding guitarist Michael Houser, whose playing that night ranks among the great documents of his career. Houser passed away less than two years later, and this set has only grown more essential with time: a rare, fully-captured glimpse of the guitarist and songwriter whose nickname gave the band it's name. The show opens with Vic Chesnutt's "Let's Get Down to Business" before tearing into "Ain't Life Grand, " "Space Wrangler, " and "Blue Indian." The centerpiece is the sprawling "Driving Song Surprise Valley Driving Song, " a fourteen-plus-minute jam critics have called the show's tour de force. Eleven tracks in all, capturing Panic at the peak of it's improvisational powers in front of a Halloween crowd that matched the band's energy note for note. This reissue brings the legendary set back with all-new artwork from longtime Panic poster artist JT Lucchesi, pressed on Rainbow Color Splatter vinyl, and available for the first time ever on CD - putting this milestone performance in physical formats for both longtime collectors and fans discovering it for the first time.Whether you were there in 2000 or you're catching up decades later, this is Widespread Panic doing what they do best: turning a single night into something that keeps unfolding every time you drop the needle.

Spotlights are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of their debut album, TIDALS, with a remastered vinyl and digital release on October 30th, 2026. The release that started it all for the band, and previously has only been available via Spotlights shows and webstore, we're now brining it to retail, remastered in a limited edition color variant. This was the release that grabbed the attention of Deftones, who brought the band on tour before they were ever signed to a label. That tour brought on the attention of Aaron Harris (Isis, Palms), who introduced the band to Ipecac, which has been their home for almost a decade now.
