The 15 romances from Ludwig Tieck's Magelone represent Johannes Brahms' only true song cycle. With his reputation as an ideal accompanist it is clear that Brahms was extremely familiar with the examples of his predecessors Beethoven, Schubert and Schumann, and as such was able to convey an authenticity of feeling with this work. Set in medieval times, Die schone Magelone is a wonderfully epic yarn in which Count Peter falls in love and elopes with the fair Magelone, leading to disaster and dramas equaling that of any romantic opera. John Adams is a composer whose works are shaped by the full breadth of American music, while being equally grounded in Classical and Romantic traditions that inform his sense of structure, harmony, and expressive line. Both Short Ride in a Fast Machine and Road Movies combine this aesthetic with a distinctive rhythmic drive that has made these some of his most enduring pieces, while Roll Over Beethoven demonstrates how far Adams has been able to move away from traditional minimalism. With the lyrical eloquence of arias from his stage works, and the 'Satie meets Bill Evans' transparency of I Still Play, this program is a vivid reminder of what makes John Adams one of the most versatile and influential composers of our time. Dis Fig, producer and vocalist Felicia Chen, embraces every facet of heaviness. Chen is driven by a desire to express deeper emotions through meticulously crafted, innovative production and expressive vocals. On acclaimed collaborations with The Bug, The Body, and Asian Dope Boys, Chen's sound is indelible. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands is an ambitious widening of Dis Fig's scope, traversing tectonic dynamic shifts and heartrending arrangements in a filmic study of humanity's capacity to create both beauty and devastation. No stranger to extremes, Dis Fig finds new, exciting combinations and balances to expand their form and shape the sound of their new record. The opening of ""Psaltery"" employs the titular instrument in pensive plucks along with mechanical clinking and tentative murmurs before giving way to an increasingly potent kick pattern and shrieks bent by distortion. The album crests around the massive crescendos of ""The Snake You Built"" featuring The Body collaborator Lee Buford and BIG BRAVE's Liam Andrews. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands is structured as scenes; in each, Chen reckons with the capacity of humans for destructive tragedies and revelatory marvels alike. Chen's voice intones an insatiable, searching quality as electronics burble and settle in fits, while featured artist the wind between acts as a narrator, setting the stage.Dis Fig has a preternatural ability to ground massive sounds with tactile rhythms and her instinctually connective voice. What To Make Of These Mortal Hands charts a cinematic arc exploring a complex web of feeling with extraordinary purpose and focus. Chen's curiosity unearths ecstatic and absorbing environments. The album is a staggering display of innovative songcraft and unfathomable emotion-a musical world like no other.

Fishtailing across a trimmed sod lawn, the parking lot of a box-store strip mall, a fast food drive-thru-it's a hyperreal Americana fantasy that calls Caroline Rose (she/they) home on 'Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall'. The release doubles as the debut of SUCK records, the LA based artist's own imprint-a fitting next form for an enigmatic musician whose work resists settling into one shape.'Gentling the Horse at the Walt Whitman Mall' stretches the ordinary into the uncanny. The record pairs sharply observed, memoiristic songwriting with expansive guitar textures that render the everyday with violent clarity and mythic scale. Beneath it's melodic sweep and signature hooks runs a current of violence and American dream leakage. It's Ennio Morricone with an AR15: surf guitars, spaghetti westerns, and suburban dread colliding until they become their own sharp vernacular. Reality is unstable, so we'll keep telling stories-and for Rose, the sinister slickness of the everyday grows a new head.Working with producer John Congleton, Rose built the record through humor, layering, and instinct rather than Polish. Songs like ""Conversations with Shiv,"" ""Goddamn Train,"" and ""Everything in it's Right Place"" were recorded in studio for the first time, with sessions that prized first impulses over perfection. The result is panoramic but never precious-songs that feel meticulously constructed while always threatening to mutate. Over the last six years, Rose's music has evolved alongside their work organizing around stronger labor protections and collective bargaining rights for musicians and crews. Creative and political practice have increasingly become the same project as Rose's career has taken on it's hyper-independent form. Those concerns echo throughout 'Gentling the Horse'. It's landscapes are populated by inherited systems that feel absurd yet inescapable, where humor becomes a survival tactic and satire reveals the quiet violence embedded in everyday American life.

Quaid + Shepherd’s “The Preset” 12” is a multi-mix single/release pushing and evolving the confines of the present funk sound. This London duo, which is composed of producer Quaid and vocalist Shepherd, dives especially deep with these four banging club mixes of “The Preset”, channeled through the lens of 80s boogie-funk.Quaid explains that “early 80's boogie funk has always been a massive inspiration and a huge part of my day-to-day listening experience”, and these 4 mixes of “The Preset” serve to honor a “drum machine soul” tradition, while keeping the production and feel fresh for the dance-floor and the context of today. This release is stacked full of epic alternate mixes for listeners and DJs to experience: Most notably, there is a “Sysex” Mix from Atlanta’s elusive abstract boogie-funk producer Moon B (his first new production to release after a multi-year hiatus), which delves into his intangibly unique slanky-funk sound. Also included on the B side are the hypnotic and more uptempo “Wet Dreems” Mix and a “Dirty Dub” Mix from Quaid that truly leans into the quirky synth leads, crispy drum programming and heavy rolling bass.

In bringing together in the same recording the trios of Alex de Taeye and of LucieVellere, we create a dialogue with two contrasting yet profoundly complementary voices of twentieth century Belgian music. They were contemporary, brought up in the same cultural climate, and they embody two faces of the same epoch: one, institutional and influential, a recognised figure of the academic milieu; the other, more intimate, almost clandestine, for whom chamber music was a refuge of liberty and sincerity. Their trios, though exceptional in their respective catalogues, share the same demand for clarity, balance and sensitivity. Each has an individual aesthetic: that of de Taeye, the inheritor of a bountiful, controlled post-romanticism; that of Vellere, imbued with an inner gentleness and a heightened sense of colour. Set side by side, these two works form a mirror portrait of a musical Belgium lying between tradition and modernity, between public illumination and poetic reclusion. Clear Vinyl. Powerpant, the solitary project of Ukraine-born, London-based Theo Zhykharyev, is distinguished by it's giddy bass, sizzling synth lines and melancholic vocal hooks. Both sonically and thematically the Powerplant project is ever evolving - after the lo-fi synth-punk of 2019's breakout debut album, People in the Sun came an instrumental 2022 dungeon-synth release Stump Soup. The kaleidoscopic Grass EP (2023) was followed by last year's 80's rock explorations on the moody Crashing Cars 7"" and the return to formula Michael Mann-inspired Heat EP. Powerplant's newest endeavor is the Bridge of Sacrifice - a fun, black metal infused journey through all that is heavy and gothic, whilst keeping the foundation of adored pop-songwriting and melodic vocal hooks. The synth-punk debut album 'People in the Sun' took the internet by storm in 2019. It's fuzzy melodies landed it on 'Best of...' lists by Pitchfork and Bandcamp, receiving nods from Iggy Pop and Henry Rollins. Zhykharyev assembled a live band of London's best, featuring members of Island of Love, Hitmen and Arms Race. They tour far and wide, selling out shows in Japan, Australia, US, Scandinavia and everything in between. Powerplant's ferocity was captured on KEXP live in-studio session, and appeared at festivals like End of The Road, Outbreak and Fluff Fest, as well as shared the stage with cult rockers OSees, Show Me The Body and Ovlov. Powerplant moves at it's own accord, always morphing into something more dynamic and unpredictable. With each addition to the catalog, Zhykharyev throws new sonic mutations in the mix. It's never the same, but always 100% Powerplant.

With Love Letters, drummer and composer Joost Lijbaart has created perhaps the most personal album of his career, an album on which he let's go of many of his musical certainties. After 35 years in jazz, improvisation and world music, Lijbaart asked himself a simple yet confronting question: what remains when technique, virtuosity and musical complexity are stripped away? What happens when the only intention is to play honestly? The answer was rhythm, sound and the expressive power of words.Together with young New Zealand singer, bassist and songwriter Amelie Spinks and American bassist River Adomeit, Lijbaart formed the band Sunflower. In it's music, his long-standing love of country, folk and Americana comes clearly to the surface-genres he had listened to for years but had never previously explored in a project of his own.The age difference between the three musicians (Spinks is 23, Adomeit 29 and Lijbaart 58) did not create distance. Instead, it became a source of inspiration, shaping the songwriting, the lyrics and the musical concept.Their collaboration brought back the excitement of first experiences: making music without routine and without predetermined roles. For Lijbaart, Sunflower also required a radical new approach to drumming. Much of what he had developed throughout his career, extended percussion, complex rhythms and technical virtuosity had no place in these songs. Instead, he searched for something more essential: rhythm, texture and expression through simplicity, finding exactly the right balance between instrumentation, lyrics and groove. The songs on Love Letters draw attention to the places where life may reveal itself most truthfully: in small gestures, in touch, in waiting and in care. They open up a world in which quiet actions carry more meaning than grand statements, and where silence and listening can lead to greater understanding and wisdom. At the heart of the album is the idea of equality not as a declaration, but as a way of being. In 'If I Was a Woman, ' Lijbaart consciously attempts to step into a perspective that is still too often overlooked within a patriarchal society. 'Eight Hands on a Black Cat' explores the strange contrast between the tangible, truthful experiences of domestic life and the noise and superficiality of the outside world. For Joost Lijbaart, Sunflower is not a side project, but a new artistic beginning: music made without protection, in which virtuosity no longer determines what should be said. The song does. UPC: 608917614923Label: BuzzRelease Date: 10.23.26Format: CD
Rock is rich krovvy that froths in the veins of Chicago's Axis: Sova, the trio of Brett Sova, Jeremy Freeze, and Josh Johannpeter. They enjoy progressive tactics when spilling it: earworm hooks & phased/fuzzed guitars, metronomic time moving flexibly into a breathing frame. With visceral pull and elegant bloom in their new songs and sounds, Flowerage discovers how to get blood back out the rock, to focus an eye in the world's chaos. When Lord of the Lost released Empyrean in 2016, the band created a dystopian Future Metal concept album of epic scale: a science-fiction odyssey about a species centuries into it's own self-destruction, chasing the promise of Empyrean, a perfect world that may ultimately prove to be a final illusion. Gothic Metal, Glam, Electro, Prog, and Industrial collide in one towering sound, anchored by a dominant electronic foundation and elevated by glam-era choruses that crash headlong into industrial-grade aggression, with hooks sharp enough to survive the wreckage. Marking the album's 10th anniversary, this 3CD Edition is the most complete version of Empyrean ever assembled. Alongside the original album, two bonus discs delve deeper into the record's universe gathering rare tracks, alternative versions, live recordings, and 12 special Headphone 3D Mixes of the album, offering a new way to experience it's expansive sonic world.

On ""Light and Matter"", Caroline Marie Brooks finds herself in good company. The Ontario-based songwriter's second solo record spills over with visions of nature rendered in earthy folk-pop, locating wonder and comfort in the nourishing tendencies of the wider world's green and blue swaths of abundance while also coming to terms with the complexity of being in fellowship with other living things. Sweet, bright melodies wrap like vines around the connections in sisterhood, motherhood, friendship, and romance that she writes thoughtfully about, buoyed by intricate, percussive arrangements filled out by trusted musical good company-producer, Josh Van Tassel, and instrumentalist Dean Drouillard, with guests Christine Bougie and Colin Carbonera. Aptly, Caroline keeps the good company of good ideas, too-like encountering a special bird, walking in dense woods, considering the body of someone you love, and swimming in a pond-makes one wonder how or why anyone tries to do all the things one is apparently supposed to do as an artist in the 21st century. ""It's a lot to keep up with, but I just want to make music, make a living, be with my family, and love people, and have people love me,"" Brooks says. ""And not just for the music, either,"" she adds with a laugh. On ""Light and Matter"" Caroline extends an invitation wide and with an open heart. In ""the solitude of twilight"" or among loved ones, ""Light and Matter"" offers the balm of that simple phenomenon to be cherished: good company.Caroline Marie Brooks is a founding member of acclaimed folk trio Good Lovelies, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band later this year. As a member of Good Lovelies, Caroline has won multiple JUNO and Canadian Folk Music Awards. She has toured Canada, the US, and the UK extensively.

More than three decades into an extraordinary career, Swedish progressive rock pioneers The Flower Kings return with HOPE, their 18th studio album and one of the most ambitious statements of their storied journey. Balancing refined musicianship with fearless creativity, the album is both a celebration of the band's legacy and a bold leap forward, embracing the grand, cinematic scope and adventurous spirit that have made them one of progressive rock's most beloved acts.
HOPE features a rich collection of expansive compositions, including the epic 30-minute centerpiece "The Gods of Rome." Drawing on themes of power, conflict, human ambition, and the state of the modern world, the album reflects on an era marked by division and diminishing empathy while ultimately delivering a message of optimism, compassion, and renewal.
Rather than chasing contemporary trends, The Flower Kings remain committed to the organic, melodic sound that has defined them throughout their career. The result is an immersive listening experience filled with soaring melodies, virtuosic performances, lush arrangements, and moments of genuine emotional depth.

41-track triple CD Digipak. µ-Ziq's Tango N'Vectif was released in 1993, a classic year for auteurist electronic music that didn't always fit on the dancefloor. Written by Mike Paradinas in his late teens, it still stands up well today and it's influence on electronic music in the decades since is obvious.Taking influences from early Aphex, Detroit Techno and UK Hardcore, Mike created this spirited, lo-fi version of rave; with crunchy drums and a knack for melody that fell between John Barry and classic TV themes.
