Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Knifeplay - What Is Truth (LP) (New (N))
"What Is Truth?" is the third full-length album from Philadelphia based slowcore band Knifeplay, and their first for indie label Double Double Whammy. It marks a full departure from the band's shoegaze roots, moving into something more spacious and lyrics-forward: slow-burning arrangements rooted in slowcore and "apocalyptic folk".Where earlier Knifeplay records searched, this one arrives with intention. Written and recorded as a band in a room rather than built from bedroom demos, it is the group's most deliberate work to date. Songwriter Tj Strohmer turns away from purely personal confession toward something larger: a meditation on love and art as the only things that stay true while the modern world falls into decline. The result is heavy and unflinching, but never hopeless. Beneath the darkness runs a steady thread of resilience and, finally, redemption.Across the album, the music moves from reckoning to something like grace. "Love Song," the lead single, sits with the loneliness of carrying your own trauma and hoping to be understood and accepted anyway. The closing track, "Please Let the Children Be Artists," with French horn and flute drifting over mellotron strings, lands as a plea for healing, with love and art offered as a way back to ourselves. Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: La Altura: Visionary Mexican Music 1977-99 V. 1 - La Altura: Visionary Mexican Music 1977-99 V. 1 (LP) (New (N))
A LA ALTURA, or "To The Height" brings recognition to Mexican musicians who, in the last decades of the 20th century, ventured into experimental territories with electronic and indigenous instruments, in dialogue with minimalism, ambient, jazz and new age aesthetics. Over a decade in the making and lovingly curated by Mexican journalist, musician and DJ, Carlos "Tropicaza" Icaza & dublab radio founder and LA Phil Creative Producer Mark "Frosty" McNeill, A LA ALTURA is sourced from original tapes and masters featuring unreleased, long out of print and private-press recordings. Volumes 1 & 2 feature 25 visionary artists who were actively engaged in a form of consciousness raising, whether by questing for the stars through their music or by elevating the artform itself. Just as boldly, these two volumes make the statement that Mexican artists and composers like Luis Pérez, Arturo Meza, Jorge Reyes, Ana Ruiz, and Antonio Zepeda should be spoken in the same breath as Michael Rother, Terry Riley, Hiroshi Yoshimura, and the many other artists who have been rightly feted for their spirit of experimentation. Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Lucky Daye - ALOUD! (LP) (New (N))
"ALOUD is about breaking rules in order to create your own. It’s about speaking your truth unapologetically and not worrying about being judged for it. At its core, this album is meant to feel fun. There’s so much heaviness in the world right now, and sometimes people just need to dance, escape for a minute, and let themselves feel free. Honestly, I need that too. With this project, I wanted to tap into a lighter side of myself. I wanted to make music that feels fun and accessible. This album is about letting go, being present, and allowing yourself to enjoy life without overthinking every move. Don’t let anybody silence you or tell you who you’re supposed to be. Say what you want, move how you want, and dance your way through the hard times. Stay ALOUD. You’re allowed to live life on your own terms." Alliance Entertainment Pre-Order: Peter Gabriel - o\i (LP, Indie Exclusive Bright-Side Mix Neon Green) (New (N))
"The songs are a mix of thoughts and feelings,” Gabriel says. “I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it. We are sliding into a period of transition like no other, most likely triggered in three waves: AI, quantum computing, and the brain computer interface. Artists have a role to look into the mists and, when they catch sight of something, to hold up a mirror. “We are not, and have never been, the exclusively self-determining, independent beings that we imagine we are. We have had a sense of entitlement that everything exists for our benefit - that we’ve been given the run of the world to exploit as we see fit.” “We are something else, a part of nature, a part of everything and when we feel that connection, shake our booty and give and receive some love, it can help us find our proper place - and put a big smile on our faces.” “This is how I see the lumpy bits – i/o: the inside has a new way out and o\i: the outside has a new way in.” Written and produced by Peter Gabriel and, mostly, recorded at Real World Studios, his studio near Bath, England, the album features contributions from a wide range of extraordinary musicians, including long-time band members Tony Levin, David Rhodes and Manu Katché, i/o touring band members Richard Evans, Josh Shpak and Don E, the New Blood Orchestra, Soweto Gospel Choir and Orphei Drängar choir and notable contributions from, amongst others, Mike Elizondo (who co-produces one track) and Abe Rounds. Like i/o, the album comes with two distinct mix approaches, the Bright-Side Mix by Mark ‘Spike’ Stent and the Dark-Side Mix by Tchad Blake, with Mike Elizondo handling mix duties on one Dark-Side track. Cover shot is by Nadav Kander and, once again, each song is accompanied by a piece of art. A selection of wonderful images, chosen by Gabriel, to help bring a greater understanding to the music. Artists involved this time are Janaina Mello Landini, Tomás Saraceno, Judy Chicago, Tatsuo Miyajima, Shirin Neshat, Juan Genovés, Roelof Louw, David Altmejd, Francis Alÿs, Tadashi Kawamata, Berndnaut Smilde, Tishan Hsu, and Michal Rovner.
