Following their successful collaboration onThe Northman, Carolan reunites with Eggers to bring the legendary tale of Nosferatu tolife, infusing the film with a score that is as complex and nuanced as the story itself.With Daniel Pioro, one of Britain's most exciting young classical musicians, at the helmas the orchestra leader and first chair for a vast majority of the recording, the soundtrackfeatures a vast orchestration, including 60 string players, a full choir, various horns andwoodwinds, a harpist, and two percussionists. Despite the grandeur of the orchestration, one of the most challenging pieces was the music box used at the film's beginning.Carolan and Eggers struggled to perfect it's sound, a process marked by their meticulousattention to detail, which Carolan describes as almost telepathic.Set in the 1800s, Nosferatu allowed Carolan to incorporate contemporary instrumentation, though he made a deliberate effort to ensure the score didn't sound overlymodern. Letty Stott, who also worked on The Northman, contributed ancient horns andpipes, enhancing the soundtrack's eerie atmosphere. Additionally, percussionist PaulClarvis custom-built a toaca-like instrument for added authenticity.Carolan's inspirations for the soundtrack were as eclectic as they were profound. Hefrequently drew upon the works of Bartok and Coil, while films like The Innocents,Angels and Insects, and Eyes Wide Shut provided cinematic inspiration. Mutant, in partnership with Milan Records, is proud to release the official soundtrack album for Edgar Wright's sci-fi action thriller The Running Man. The album features the film's original music composed by Academy Awardr-winner Steven Price (Gravity, Last Night in Soho, Baby Driver). The Running Man is co-written and directed by Wright and follows a working-class father desperate to save his sick daughter, who enters a deadly television game show competition where contestants must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, and whose instincts, defiance, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite - and a threat to the entire system. We're huge fans of both Edgar and Steven, and it's great to see them creating another killer time at the movies. Steven Price's score for The Running Man is a dazzling mix of propulsive beats, gurgling synths, and traditional orchestral elements that fizz with invention and style. The central theme has an elegant, timeless quality, with lush, calming strings weaving a hypnotic melody. Contrast this with the tracks that accompany the game show segments, which are really fun, bombastic, and retro, and which again contrast with the more sinister, dystopian pieces scattered throughout. Placed within the film, the music feels like another character pushing the story along. As a standalone listen, it is engaging, dynamic, and really fun, and it perfectly captures the many tones and moods of the film. Featuring artwork by Luke Preece, the vinyl edition is pressed on 2x 140gm color vinyl and contains a replica "The Truth" zine from the film featuring exclusive liner notes by Edgar Wright and composer Steven Price. VALVE video games and IPECAC RECORDINGS have a part-nership that dates back almost 15 years when we released the PORTAL 2 soundtracks. Since then, there's been releases of some of the biggest video game soundtracks out there including TEAM FORTRESS 2, DOTA 2 and the entire HALF-LIFE series. These have been some of Ipecac best selling physical and digital releases on the label.
HALF-LIFE: ALYX was originally released digitally as a series of 11 chapters from 2020-2022, and the physical release brings those together in two different formats:4CD fold-out digipak featuring all 72 songs from the series2LP Gatefold 180gr Vinyl featuring 21 songs selected by the composer, as well as a download card with all 72 songs. There's a different cover, than the CD, plus a 24x36 fold-out poster. The Standard variant is Black with Orange Splatter and the Indie Store variant is Orange with Black Splatter.
The HL:A game itself has sold over 2MM copies since 2020 and had added to the Half-Life series of games that has sold over 30MM copies.
