One afternoon, Eric Bachmann's son returned from school with a sheath of pictures he'd drawn, all of them macabre. "There were crows and sinister figures with scythes and tombstones," he recalls. On one, he had written 'DETH, SWET DETH,' and everything clicked in my head." Swet Deth, Bachmann's first album under his Crooked Fingers moniker after a 15-year hiatus, organized itself around the image: it's songs are about death, yes, but there's a sweetness to them, a wry sensibility to his lyrics that comes from having experienced many kinds of death and the life that follows in it's wake. "Crooked Fingers" is a historically slippery concept - no two albums sound alike or feature the same lineup in studio or on tour. Hearing parts in these songs that called for instruments he didn't play or vocals that weren't in his register, he found himself expanding the roster of guest musicians further than he had on any album in his catalog, including Sharon Van Etten ("Haunted"), The National's Matt Berninger ("From All Ways"), and Superchunk's Mac McCaughan ("Cold Waves"). But first he started with family, friends, and frequent collaborators. Jon Rauhouse plays pedal steel. Bachmann's wife, Liz Durrett, contributes vocals, as do members of his touring band, Skylar Gudasz and Avery Leigh Draut (of Night Palace).There is a freedom to this collection of songs, a groove to them that would belie their agonies and anxieties were mere death the album's point and not what comes before. For Eric Bachmann, that has been growth, as a musician and as a man. Like the tree sprouting from the graveyard on it's cover, Swet Deth is surprising and lush, a shock of color against it's morbid landscape, proof of life in the shadow of it's opposite. "RIP Eric Bachmann," one tombstone reads. As Crooked Fingers, he's never felt more alive.

That would be the one and only Terry Scott Taylor (Daniel Amos, Swirling Eddies, Lost Dogs) and he also penned a couple of the tracks on this release.Originally Frontline Records only released this one on Vinyl and Cassette as the the compact disc was a very new medium in 1986. Now celebrating the 40th anniversary of this release we bring it to you in a limited edition, remastered CD format.D.O.X. (Defenders of the Cross) is housed in a jewel case and contains an 8-page booklet. The original cover art has been enhanced with a beautiful layout and design by Scott Waters of NoLifeTilMetal Graphics. Were "The Watchtowers" is the final recordings of Dallas Good of The Sadies, recorded prior to his unexpected passing in February 2022. This collaboration between Good and Richard Reed Parry of Arcade Fire (originally calling their duo "The Watchtowers") had slowly been written and recorded over the course of a decade whenever the two had a spare weekend. "It has been the slowest moving musical endeavour of my entire life," Parry says. "We didn't plan to do it this way, it's just how it happened. Tiny, joyous flourishes of activity a couple times a year for over a decade." Available for Preorder today.As great as many of these versions are from over the decades, arguably, no one ever did these tunes with more swag than Carl himself on "Dance Album!"The SMASH hits include Perkins-written classics like "Blue Suede Shoes," "Honey Don't," "Matchbox," and "Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby." The album also includes Carl's covers of "Only You" and "Wrong Yo Yo." Intervention worked closely with Sun Records and the Archive Team at Iron Mountain to compile a completely NEW set of A/B reel master tapes for this release. In the late 1960s, when Shelby Singleton purchased Sun Records from legendary Sam Phillips, the original 7" single master tape reels were compiled onto many different sets of 1/4" tapes. Identifying any one tape as "THE master" for a given song is no longer possible, but hours and hours were spent by Sun and IR's Shane Buettner listening to tapes and identifying the absolute best sounding tape version of each and every song. Kelly Pribble, Mark Berger, and Scott Delaney at Iron Mountain made flat 1/4" transfers at our direction to a newly minted set of 1/4" A/B reels for this release. For the CD/SACD Extra Tracks Iron Mountain made DSD transfers directly from the analog master tapes. Gus Skinas at the Super Audio Center prepared Kevin Gray's mastered DSD files for the original repertoire, and mastered the extra tracks in the DSD domain using Gray's mastering notes as a guide. Of course, IR's paid no less attention to the album art, and very special thanks are owed to Joe Goldmark, who loaned us his very-hard-to-find original jacket for color reference. Dark Heart were formed during the early eighties, releasing the debut album Shadows of the Night on the Roadrunner in 1984. After a number of successful live shows, the fast approaching end of NWOBHM era meant the band decided to go their separate ways, never quite fulfilling their potential or producing a follow up second album. Over the years the band has developed a cult following. Founding member Alan Clark went on to form Change Of Heart, and the band established themselves as one of the best British AOR/Rock bands, with four albums to date. Now Dark Heart, with Alan as the only original member of the band, return with a new album. The sound, still routed in classic metal/hard rock, has moved away from NWOBHM, not only bringing the sound up to date, but also reflecting the maturity in the song writing craft.
