Champagne Bubblebath's studio debut is an inspired exploration that splits the difference between psychedelic garage funk and golden-era instrumental hip-hop. Polyrhythmics' drummer Grant Schroff dreamt up this beat tape project to pass time during the pandemic. Eventually he drafted longtime bandmates Ben Bloom (guitar) and Jason Gray (bass), along with Seattle's six-string maestro Jimmy James (True Loves, Parlor Greens) to bring his smoked-out vision to fruition. In March of 2026, the quartet is set to unfurl an ambitious, swaggering ten-track opening salvo. Mixtape: Volume One is a fantastic voyage from the annals of funkafied late-'60s rare-groove into mid-'90s crate-digger backpack boom-bap. Champagne Bubblebath delivers the goods, a medicinal expression session that's sure to move the crowd.Originally conceived as a throwback beat-tape of minimalist garage-funk grooves, Seattle's Champagne Bubblebath swaggers on the scene right on time and live on arrival. Alter-ego brainchild of Polyrhythmics' drummer Grant Schroff, the endeavor steadily blossomed from vanity side-project into a full-blown live band and studio release. Due in March 2026, Champagne Bubblebath's eponymous Mixtape: Volume One uncorks a vibey debut offering where space is the place; ten tracks rich in deep-pocket vamps and dubbed-out psychedelic soundscapes. Schroff sits confidently in the captain's chair, pushing moody shades of late '60s jazz-funk/rare-groove blended with mid-'90s backpack boom-bap, leaning into a sampledelic mentality of rhythmic elements swimming in analog sound design. Schroff taps a few familiar faces to facilitate his vision: Polyrhythmics' Jason Gray (bass) and Ben Bloom (guitar) both join the fray, along with famed Emerald City funk guitar OG Jimmy James (True Loves, Parlor Greens), with whom Schroff has old-school roots working with Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio many moons ago. Tracked and mixed at Gray's Blue Mallard Studio, Champagne Bubblebath's Mixtape: Volume One effectively blends elements of Check Your Head-era Beastie Boys', steezy Soulquarian outtakes, Pete Rock beat chops and psilocybin Khruangbin, plus postcards from the Mothership. All freshly baked with just enough of their own native tongue to flip the script forward and make your head bob like emergency brakes.

Five years ago, Curren$y proved once again that while the rest of the world might hit the brakes, the Jet Life never stalls. Released in the early months of 2021, Collection Agency arrived as a masterclass in "work-from-home" luxury-a smooth, ten-track victory lap that solidified Curren$y's status as the most consistent architect in underground hip-hop. Clocking in at just under 24 minutes, Collection Agency is the sonic equivalent of a pristine, low-mileage 911 Turbo. It's lean, expensive-sounding, and devoid of filler. Critical Thot is the bold new collaborative album from Bay Area-based rapper/producerSha Ray, and producer/electronic musician DJ Haram-two uncompromising artistsreshaping rap and experimental sound. It is an intriguing pairing; Haram is one-half ofthe duo 700 Bliss with rapper and poet Moor Mother and has several solo records underher belt-including 2025's critically acclaimed Beside Myself (Hyperdub)-and highprofile collaborations with BbyMutha, Fever Ray, Ghais Guevara, and Armand Hammer.Meanwhile, although Critical Thot is Sha Ray's official debut album, her reputation as anext-wave talent precedes her. Haram got wise in 2022 when she saw Sha Ray performat a show in Brooklyn."We spoke at the venue and after that I followed her on social media. She gave anincredible performance, so later on when she slid in my DMs asking for beats, I wasalready on board," Haram explains. An Armand Hammer/DJ Haram show in LA was the nexus for these connections toyield fruit. Sha Ray flew down from the Bay to link with Haram, and although the twodidn't end up recording anything that day, it was the springboard for the cross-countrycollaboration that culminated in Critical Thot. The whole album was made remotely:Haram cooking up beats in Brooklyn and sending them to Sha Ray, who would sendback demos and notes. They got to know each other as artists, and as people, while theyworked on this project."Haram and I have had so many overlapping experiences working as women in themusic industry, which really enriched our bond. That, and her very striking approach toproduction, really inspired a lot of the writing on this record," Sha Ray says. That writing is razor sharp and refreshingly direct. Sha Ray quickly proves herself to bein a class of her own, navigating even the knottiest of DJ Haram productions withouttaking her foot off the gas. Haram digs deep into her bag with beats that run the gamutfrom experimental and abrasive to slinky fun to darkly foreboding. Percussive thuds andshots are layered with intricate details and soft linings. A trappy banger dissolves intoa flood of strings. A sparse industrial soundscape slowly coheres into a cacophonousuppercut of a rap record. Sha Ray bobs and weaves her way through every drum breakand synth with a defiant ease."As a rapper I'm pretty exclusively interested in interrogating misogyny and sexuality inmy work. Critical Thot is a deliberation on unapologetic feminine authority, while beingvery honest about the complicated truth of being a participant in self-objectification,and sexuality as a social currency," Sha Ray elaborates. "This record focuses a lot ondefining power in feminine sexuality as relational and ever-shifting, and thus inherentlyimperfect. However, it is a power that I have and I am going to use it."Critical Thot features contributions from Nappy Nina, JWords, and Archangel.

Somewhere in the hills of Cincinnati, there's a transmitter sending radio waves in every direction. The electricity flows through the air and hits your receiver with a charge that, when amplified, emits an organic sound that could only be... Doctor Bionic. They're back with a brand new album-the fourth installment in the Terrestrial Radio series, titled Electric Pollen. Like it's predecessors, the album was recorded, produced, and mixed by Cincinnati based producer Grimez. He calls on a rotating cast of talented musicians to record instrumentals that are best described as Organic Groove. "We get together in the studio, hit record, and start jamming," Grimez explained. "I'd say 90% of our music is improvised." Fans of the project will notice plenty of familiar names in the liner notes. "You are now tuned in to Terrestrial Radio... Coming to you live with Doctor Bionic." At the top of side A, "The Eyes of Chavez" begins with a short introduction from the Cincinnati rapper Crunch Ex and a simple, hypnotizing guitar riff (Brad Myers). Underneath, drummer Marvin Hawkins and bassist Kevaugh Byers provide a rock solid groove for the other musicians to build upon. The refrain arrives in the form of an undeniably catchy melody, performed in unison on the saxophone, trumpet, and keys by Charlie Suits, Eric Snyder, and DJ On Tha One, respectively. The perfect opener, this track is like a sample platter of what's to come throughout the rest of the album. Doctor Bionic has a knack for keeping things fresh. The second track, "Moment of Clarity," transports the listener to the VIP section of a smoky cocktail lounge. A soothing piano loop sets the tone, and plucky electric guitar strums keep the groove moving forward at a leisurely pace. Despite the stylistic changes from song to song, the album is sonically cohesive. With the added introduction and transitional commentary from the DJ (Crunch Ex), the album plays like a perfect radio mix. Although the recording sessions are casual and spontaneous, each finished D.B. album always follows a conceptual theme. The subject is often determined by artwork that speaks to Grimez. "I'll buy or license a piece of art that catches my eye, and then put music to it," he explained. "I have plenty of pieces that are ready to be album art, but I don't have the right music for it yet." This process is part of what makes Doctor Bionic's music different from other instrumental producers.

After breaking out through Warren G's Regulate... G Funk Era and scoring a massive hit with "Summertime in the LBC," Dove Shack became one of the defining names of West Coast G-funk. While their 1995 debut on Def Jam made them stars, their second album Reality Has Got Me Tied Up, quietly released in 2000, has since become a cult favorite. Featuring guest appearances from Nate Dogg, Kam, Bad Azz, Goldie Loc, and more, the album blends classic G-funk smoothness with a harder, gangsta-rap edge. The Live Laugh Love campaign is rooted in themes of wellness, growth, and the philosophy behind the album title, Live Laugh Love. While irony is used as a tool for laughter, the sentiment is real. It reflects Earl’s current way of life, choosing joy while staying grounded in truth.LLL brings a sense of nostalgia. It reminds us of a time when life felt full of simplicity and genuine connection. But this isn’t blind optimism. Blood, guts, and darkness live alongside the joy. LLL holds space for contradiction and chooses love anyway. *** Indie Exclusive ***UPC: 093624827931Label: Warner RecordsRelease Date: 10.24.25Format: Vinyl

Two turntables and a microphone. There is a truth in the clarity of that simple coda, a truth that also belies the breadth of what is possible within it's confines. Sometimes you gotta get reminded. I Guess U Had To Be There, the new album from NYC rapper ELUCID and veteran producer Sebb Bash, is one of those ones. So fresh it sounds like it was made tomorrow, but bet money you could put this on in '89 and get heads bopping. There are moments in music when masters of their craft cross paths at the height of their respective powers-records like Madvillainy, Liquid Swords, Dr. Octagonecologyst, and Hell Hath No Fury-where the result is more than the sum of it's parts. ELUCID and Sebb Bash find themselves in this heady, seemingly effortless ephemera on I Guess U Had To Be There. Everything is both familiar and groundbreaking. The beats shift and flip under ELUCID's feet but he tightropes it all, delivery nimble as a mountain goat, producer and rapper moving in perfect synchronization. Some shining stars make memorable appearances: billy woods, Breezly Brewin, Estee Nack, Shabaka Hutchings. But this is a two-man show, and the duo keep the spotlight where it belongs. I Guess U Had To Be There is a captivating, convention-defying listen and a highwater mark for two of the best artists in the genre.

The new album from legendary rapper Fashawn & producer Marc Spano - Vocal features from Blu, Ras Kass, Planet Asia and Otis Reed. Fashawn presides over Hip Hop as commander-in-chief of the underground on a glorious new Marc Spano crafted opus!!! Capital is a direct, thematically coherent album built around ideas of power, legacy, and self-definition. Fashawn's writing moves between personal memory and broader social observation, often focusing on the cost of success and the complexity of identity in a system shaped by capital. The title is not symbolic. It is the subject. Every track examines capital-financial, emotional, cultural-and how it defines access, value, and survival. The record treats this with seriousness and without sentimentality. Capital is a focused document. It does not perform urgency. It presents it.

Backwoodz Studioz is excited to announce the release of Crayola Circles, a collaboration between rapper Fatboi Sharif and producer Child Actor. While both artists have long standing connections to Backwoodz, this album marks their first collaboration of any kind and breaks new artistic ground for all parties. Sharif's previous album, Decay, released on Backwoodz in 2023, was a haunting experimental rap masterpiece, an acid trip in a mental hospital. On Crayola Circles Sharif trades menacing psychedelia for a simmering stew of blacklight expressionism, his verses slipping effortlessly through the swells and tides of Child Actor's masterful production. No matter how uneasy the waves grow, Sharif is at ease, a truth teller whispering anti-riddles in your ear. This album feels like a new chamber for Child Actor, as well. The producer has been on an impressive run since dropping CINE- a collaboration with rapper Cavalier- on Backwoodz in late 2024. Child Actor has shown up in the liner notes of everyone from Navy Blue (The Sword & The Soaring) to Earl Sweatshirt (Live, Laugh, Love) to ELUCID (Revelator) to Open Mike Eagle (Neighborhood Gods Unlimited), to Ghais Guevara (A Quest to Self-Mythologize), amongst others. On Crayola Circles Child Actor's production is dynamic, shifting and sliding into new phases and movements in an instant. The beats are full and knotty, leaning into jazz and folk, while remaining tethered to the tender minimalism that is his signature. It's a difficult balance for any producer, and here it is executed perfectly, placing us in a world of wood and brass, cowhide and undersea piano. On any other record, this soundscape would steal the show - and it very nearly does - but Sharif's command never wavers, ever in control; a lucid dreamer in an induced coma. There are no guests, no skits, and no interludes. There might not even be songs, instead Crayola Circles seems akin to a great river; singular, traversing forest and jungle, mountain and valley, running from mouth to endless sea.
