Classic jazz-funk fusion from the late, great Japanese guitarist Ryo Kawasaki. Recorded in New York, and originally released in 1976, 'Juice' presents Ryo at the height of his powers.Born in Japan in 1947, Ryo had a long and stellar career recording and releasing music up until his passing on 13 April 2020, in Tallinn, Estonia. Ryo is one of the pioneers of the jazz fusion genre, with the Japanese jazz fusion / funk sound becoming extremely influential within the 80s UK club scene and amongst it's DJs. His track 'Trinkets & Things' became a bonafide underground classic. In the US he worked with some of the greats of jazz, such as Elvin Jones, Chico Hamilton and Bobbi Humphrey, to name but a few. A forward-thinking and ever-evolving musician, Ryo collaborated with the Roland Corporation and Korg on the 'guitar synthesizer' and later wrote music software for computers. Later in life he relocated to Estonia and worked there, as well as Finland, Sweden, and the Baltic states.'Juice' has become a much-loved album for crate diggers and jazz-funk enthusiasts, with it's tracks frequently being sampled and re-imagined in hip-hop. The smokey, beat-down, spiritual funk jam 'Bamboo Child' has been flipped by Diamond D, Puff Daddy, and Kool G Rap. The album was released in 1976 on RCA Records and features the musicians' drummer Jimmy Young, rhythm guitarist Hugh McCracken, and bassist Stu Woods amongst other luminaries. A solid album throughout that incorporates a heavy dose of tripped-out synths alongside the emerging disco sound of the time. Tracks such as the opener 'Raisins', with it's drum beat intro and bubbling bass-line, rivals The Headhunters at their finest. A superb album from an underground legend.

Critically acclaimed drummer, producer, and composer Salin, known for her innovative blend of global rhythms, today re-releases her highly anticipated album, Rammana. After receiving a Juno nomination for Global Music Album of the Year this groundbreaking work, a vibrant testament to Salin's continued artistic growth, houses 10 meticulously crafted tracks including previously shared singles "Si Chomphu", "Current", "Egungun", "Puaj", "Painted Lady", and album title track "Rammana". Rammana is a deeply personal journey, weaving together the sounds of Northeast Thailand with the psychedelic soul of 1970s West Africa, all filtered through Salin's distinct modern production ear. Inspired by the traditional drum and folk songs of the Urak Lawoi, an indigenous nomadic island tribe, Salin's album is a celebration of musical migration and exchange of East and West. "With Rammana, I aimed to weave together some of my biggest musical influences," Salin explains. "I built the foundation on African rhythms, recognizing them as our original roots, and was obsessed by it's polyrhythms. I then layered in the syncopated line of Thai Funk and jazzy chords to infuse them with traditional Thai musical elements, giving you what I call Afro-Thai Funk. Salin's journey to Rammana began with travels to Koh Lanta, off the coast of Krabi province, where she immersed herself in the musical traditions of the Urak Lawoi. Learning directly from the elder Urak Lawoi musicians, she discovered a connection between the Rammana drum and the tribe's traditional spiritual celebrations. The album's layered rhythms and soulful melodies create a cohesive listening experience of deeper understanding, inviting listeners to join Salin on her journey through an immersive world that will demand repeated listens. Salin is a JUNO-nominated drummer, producer, and composer whose music explores the enchanting sounds of Northeast Thailand and marries it with the 70's psychedelia of West Africa, all through the lens of modern soulful production. Through her music, she ponders themes of identity, spirituality, and humanity, all paired with a dose of fun to create a unique sonic journey for her listeners. After Rammana gained international recognition from Bandcamp Weekly, CBC Music, KEXP, Exclaim!, Stereofox, Glide Magazine, Radio-Canada, the Montreal Guardian she went on to tour across the US, Canada nad Europe, selling out headline shows and supporting Kokoroko and Yussef Dayes. Salin is a rapidly accelerating force in modern world jazz and her star is will only rise further in 2026.

Multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter Shane Sato returns with Wavelength, his sophomore album on Mixto Records, due May 13, 2026. Building on the momentum of his breakthrough debut Until We Meet Again—which earned critical praise and over a million streams—the Japanese-American, Los Angeles-based artist delivers his most ambitious and collaborative work to date.Wavelength is a seamless blend of jazz, indie R&B, soul, and funk, stitched together by warm, vibrant textures and an organic thematic current of love, connection, and the calming flow of water. Sato assembled a powerhouse roster of collaborators and friends for the record, including critically lauded saxophonist Braxton Cook, indie pop outfit Box Dreams, R&B vocalist Oli-J, modern R&B songstress Nao Yoshioka, jazz virtuoso Reuben James, and producer Coastal. Across 11 tracks, the album moves from the devotional R&B of lead single "Never Let You Go" to the moodier, late-night pull of "Deep Dive," the neo-soul coastal drift of "Surfliner," and the lo-fi dance energy of ""Pulse"—each song a distinct window into Sato's expanding sonic world.Born and raised in Southern California, Sato has always occupied a space where cultures, sounds, and influences converge. Wavelength leans fully into that spirit, channeling his love of genre-blending, creative partnership, and the meditative pull of water into a cohesive and deeply felt body of work. Set to be one of the most compelling independent releases of the year, Wavelength will be available on vinyl and across all digital platforms.

Recorded on February 5 & 8, 1962, drummer Shelly Manne's 2-3-4 is one of her most celebrated sessions and a standout in the Impulse! Catalog, produced by Bob Thiele and featuring Manne with tenor legend Coleman Hawkins, pianists Eddie Costa & Hank Jones, and bassist George Duvivier. The album blends swing tradition with modern improvisation, highlighting Hawkins in a late-career resurgence, Manne's subtle rhythmic guidance, and the ensemble's flexible interplay across duet, trio, and quartet settings. With extended readings of standards like ""Take the A Train"" and ""Cherokee, "" alongside ""I'm Coming Virginia"" and ""Avalon, "" the record showcases expressive tenor, sophisticated harmonies, and impeccable time, offering a relaxed yet richly textured session that remains a favorite among Impulse! #devotees and a key document of Hawkins' later prime. SML is a Los Angeles based quintet featuring Anna Butterss, Jeremiah Chiu, Josh Johnson, Booker Stardrum, and Gregory Uhlmann. Spontaneous Music Live contains two side-length pieces of unedited improvisation, recorded live at Los Angeles venue Zebulon during SML's December 2025 three-night residency, just weeks after the release of the band's second album HOW YOU BEEN. It was recorded and mixed live to stereo tape by Bryce Gonzales (the same engineer/wizard known for his gorgeous live captures/mixes of Je? Parker's ETA IVtet). Between HOW YOU BEEN and their 2024 debut SMALL MEDIUM LARGE (both of which were heavily edited, shaped and post-produced) the band has developed a reputation for records that are heavily fused, polished, and punchy. The medium is on full post-modern display on those LPs, and the band's post-production knife can be responsible for much of the perspective-the tastiest morsels collected, arranged, and rearranged just so. Spontaneous Music Live removes the curatorial perspective and pulls the curtain back on that search-pluck-reconstruct editing process. What we're left with is the psychedelic realism of the band in situ, in their home town, collectively improvising, fully in-the-moment, mining for that moment of discovery. We hear, in macro, each nugget of sound which could be the basis for a future SML album track, spattered amongst the collective chaos-and-control like stars in the night sky.

London Jazz Classics originally came out in 1993 - the first album ever to be released on Soul Jazz Records. The album brought together rare and obscure dance tracks in a unique mix of jazz dance and fusion, funk, Brazilian and Latin grooves. // The album was ironically titled - none of the music was from London, none of the music was traditionally classified as jazz, and all of the tracks were at the time practically unknown to most people. Instead, these were tracks that were filling dancefloors in a nascent jazz dance scene in London being created by a small group of DJs - Paul Murphy, Gilles Peterson, Sylvester, Patrick Forge and a few others. // As demand for these rare groove jazz tracks grew, previously unknown records such as Alive's 'Skindo Le Le', Doug Richardson's 'Salsa Mama', Carlos Franzetti's 'Cocoa Funk' and Emilio Santiago's 'Bananeira' became sort after and even-harder-to-find items with original copies going for £100s of pounds. // These tracks became part of the soundtrack to this jazz dance scene which has now spread across the world. This music paved the way for the arrival of many of the UK's new wave of current artists such Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia and Ezra Collective who today offer a uniquely London sensibility of fusing jazz with wide-ranging cultural influences - everything from afrobeat to soul. // London Jazz Classics was the first album to bring this jazz dance music featured here to a wider audience. More than 30 years since it's initial release Soul Jazz Records are releasing this new 2026 edition, bringing the music once more to a new generation of listeners.

Soulive shares their brand new album Flowers-the pioneering modern organ trio's first full-length album in 15 years. For more than twenty-five years, the Woodstock, New York-formed trio Soulive have carried the flame of the Hammond-organ format for a new generation. Guitarist Eric Krasno, organist Neal Evans, and drummer-producer Alan Evans built their language on feel and economy - three voices locked in, sweat and telepathy with no wasted motion. Soulive never broke up; they just went quiet. Krasno turned to songwriting and production. Neal to arranging and texture. Alan to engineering and sound. "There's so much more that goes into a recording than the gear," Alan says. "It's about the environment - your place in space and time at that moment." That reconnection took form on Flowers. Tracked at Flóki Studios - a century-old former grocery store on Iceland's north coast - the sessions pulled the trio out of routine and back into focus. Alan had worked there before withMonoNeon and Oteil Burbridge, drawn to the light and the solitude.

"The entire project is both spare and impossibly lush. While this may sound like a contradiction, it has everything to do with the virtuosic musicianship of pianist Art Hirahara and Jim Tomlinson as well as Stacey's elegant and unadorned vocal approach. The opening track, "Lucky To Be Me," works as an invitation to the theme of the album and uses the open space between vocal phrases to draw us in. And, while all of the tracks are worth an unadulterated listen, I'm going to list a few of my favorites starting with "La Javanaise" which is delivered with an almost offhanded musical precision and sung in Stacey's pitch perfect French. The surprising warmth of Stacey's lower vocal range makes "A Time For Love" the intimate ballad it was meant to be. Jim's tenor sax does the same so that his playing is the ideal compliment to Stacey's voice. The entire album is a joy to listen to both musically and sonically. It was lovingly recorded and mixed by Jim (yet another of his talents) at their home studio in Virginia."Cliff GoldmacherStacey Kent is an American jazz singer in the mould of the greats, with a legion of fans, a host of honors and awards including a Grammy nomination, album sales in excess of 2 million and more than one billion streams, and Platinum, Double-Gold and Gold-selling albums that have reached a series of chart-topping positions.Stacey, a comparative literature graduate with a passion for music, travelled to Europe to further her studies after receiving her degree from Sarah Lawrence College in NY. Through a series of twists of fate, she found herself in London where she enrolled in a graduate music program at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she met her future husband and musical partner, Jim Tomlinson.Kent's musical journey began with childhood piano lessons. A keen ear and true voice lead her to search out opportunities to express her love of music. However, nothing suggested the shift from the academic path to the one that propelled her to international recognition as one of the foremost jazz singers of her generation. With a catalogue of 13 studio albums, including the Platinum selling, Grammy-nominated Breakfast On The Morning Tram (Blue Note/EMI 2007) and an impressive list of collaborations, Stacey has graced the stages of nearly 60 countries over the course of her career. Her worldwide fan base is testimony to her ability to express the emotional heart of her songs with delicately nuanced interpretations that transcend borders and defy categorization. Her unique multi-lingual repertoire includes standards, chanson, Bossa Nova, and originals written by Jim Tomlinson, her saxophonist/producer/composer/arranger husband in collaboration with the Nobel Prize-winning author, Kazuo Ishiguro with whom they have worked since 2006. She has also recorded with Brazilian legends, Marcos Valle, Roberto Menescal and Danilo Caymmi, and the celebrated French string quartet, the Quatuor ebene.Stacey's last studio album, Summer Me, Winter Me, was released in November 2023 on Naïve Records. A collection of fans' requests from her as yet unrecorded concert repertoire, Summer Me, Winter Me entered the French jazz charts at number 1 and has quickly established itself as a new highlight in her discography. She now returns with A Time For Love, set to appear on April 3rd, 2026. UPC: 3700187690731Label: NaiveRelease Date: 4.17.26Format: Vinyl
Recorded in February and March of 1963 and released later that year, Jazz Samba Encore reunites Stan Getz with Luiz Bonf? & Maria Toledo in a more intimate setting than the landmark Jazz Samba, shaped by Bonf?'s darker harmonic palette, Toledo's distinctive vocal and percussive presence, and Getz's warm, unhurried lyricism. Blending Bonf?'s originals with works by Ant?nio Carlos Jobim, the album deepens the evolving dialog between Brazilian songcraft and American jazz phrasing, with Bonf?'s nylon-string guitar providing a subtle rhythmic and harmonic anchor and Toledo adding textural and emotional nuance. Featuring Jobim on several tracks, the session captures bossa nova's transition from global sensation to mature artistic exchange, resulting in one of Getz's most atmospheric and enduring Verve recordings. Verve Acoustic Sounds Series features transfers from analog tapes and remastered 180-gram vinyl in deluxe gatefold packaging.

An essential document of European jazz in the 1970s, and a recording that still sounds magnificent today, Balladyna exerted an enduring influence on successive generations of improvising musicians - in Poland and Finland above all, though it also cast it's spell more widely. As Tomasz Stanko once said, "My international name was built on Balladyna." The quartet explores the seven originals on the album with a strong sense of rhythmic propulsion and melodic curiosity throughout. Recorded at Tonstudio Bauer in 1975, Balladyna was produced by Manfred Eicher.

Steve Grossman was an American jazz fusion and hard bop saxophonist. Grossman was Wayne Shorter's replacement in Miles Davis's jazz-fusion band. He played with Chick Corea on the album "The Sun" in 1970, then, from 1971 to 1973, he was in Elvin Jones's band. In the late 1970s, he was part of the Stone Alliance trio with percussionist Don Alias and bassist Gene Perla. The group released four albums during this period, including one featuring Brazilian trumpeter Márcio Montarroyos. The albums also feature an array of other musicians. They went on to release three live reunion albums during the 2000s.

Acid Jazz Records introduces the new Jazz Sessions series, with a very special album from prolific drummer Steve White, in his first album as a leader, performing as the Steve White Trio. White is known for his long association with Paul Weller, as a member of the Style Council, playing on the hit single "Long Hot Summer" and Weller's biggest solo albums: Wildwood, Stanley Road, Heavy Soul and As Is Now. Alongside this, he continued to record in both jazz and soul settings, under names such as Trio Valore, The Groove Train and of course the Jazz Renegades - his great late '80s Hard Bop outfit that recorded an LP for Polydor, another for Acid Jazz-precursor label Re-Elect The President, and an EP for Acid Jazz. On Soul Drums, his return to Acid Jazz Records, he plays glorious tribute to his jazz roots and filmic influences, performing alongside long-time collaborator Chris Hague. The perfect album to introduce this new jazz series, with a midcentury-inspired sleeve to match. Leading with the single "Changes," the album also includes a clever reworking of the Style Council's "My Ever Changing Moods."
