With "... by the word... ", Trelldom are pushing forward hard into their new musical era that was ushered in by the previous full-length "... by the shadows... " (2024), which ended a 17-year hiatus of the Norwegian band. Mastermind Kristian Eivind Espedal aka Gaahl and his diligently selected collaborators have gone even beyond the complex yet sinister sound that they established with "... by the shadows... ". The exponentially grown confidence and hard-gained experience of joining together seemingly quite different musicians is reflected clearly in each track of "... by the word... ". Trelldom have concluded the process of escaping the narrowest definition of black metal without compromising their artistic mission. Their music does not only stay loyal to the spirit of their black metal roots, but the Norwegians are making a solid point that their new sound is even more dark and fierce than ever before - just in more twisted and unhinged ways. "... by the word... " is the result of Espedal expanding the immense range of his vocals even further into unexplored territories. And it should be noted that this was partly achieved by his return to the famous Grieghallen Studios in Bergen to work again with legendary producer Eirik Hundvin aka Pytten, who was instrumental in the creation of the 'Norwegian black metal' sound. Trelldom continue in the tradition of all of Espedal's art, which asks to always expect the unexpected. With "... by the word... " the exploration of avant-garde dissonance, wicked rhythm patterns, and wild ideas again destroys preconceptions and demands intense listening. Better prepare to be challenged by every note!

Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non-Fiction, The Cursed) teamed up with Nathan Opposition (Ancient VVisdom) to form a musical project called Vessel Of Light. The duo entered Brainchild Studios in Cleveland to record their debut during Summer 2017. Lorenzo has issued the following update, "I decided to write about the band in NU's Steppin' Out magazine and I mailed Nathan Opposition (Ancient Wisdom's singer) a magazine and I think an old Hades CD. We started communicating by email and then on the phone. I had no intentions of asking him to write with me because my musical career was long over. I'm considerably older than him and honestly I wasn't playing guitar much, but when Nathan asked me if I wanted to write together I couldn't say no."Nathan Opposition says, "Lorenzo and I became friends due to my inability to not be susceptible to flattery. Turns out he's a really cool guy who writes awesome riffs too. Randomly one day I ask him about the band we are starting in joking fashion. I guess it was the right timing and the right person because we immediately agreed we should actually start a project. Before I knew it he was sending me CDs of riffs and I had lyrics flowing like a faucet."Vessel of Light went on to record four more albums that would be released world-wide, Woodshed, Thy Serpent Rise and Last Ride. However, the debut EP, which is now a full-length album, was only ever released in Europe on a small Italian label. Now in 2026 NoLifeTilMetal Records brings new life to the debut album with fresh remastering by Rob Colwell (Nevermore, Flotsam & Jestam, King's X, Hades) and new packaging with lyrics, liner notes and photos.

Guitars, who needs guitars in heavy music? At least YEAR OF THE COBRA can happily do without the ones that have only thin strings and are mostly good for fiddling around. Vocalist Amy Tung Barrysmith gets a massive groove and lush heaviness out of her bass, which is more than enough to fuel the booming twin engine made from doom metal and psychedelic sludge that drives their self-titled third full-length. "Year of the Cobra" has clearly grown out of it's two forerunners "... in the Shadows Below" (2016) and "Ash and Dust" (2019), but it also surpasses them. YEAR OF THE COBRA have honed their songwriting, which is more to the point, and produces catchy yet super heavy tunes that are tailor-made to fit the band's strongest aspects. Amy Tung Barrysmith's rich alto and the seamless rhythmical rapport between her bass lines and Jon Barrysmith's emotive drumming come to the fore. YEAR OF THE COBRA were formed in Seattle in 2015. As a duo, YEAR OF THE COBRA had to carve out their own niche, which they did with deceptively seeming ease. They created a sound that effortlessly ranged from classic doom melancholy to oppressively heavy riff architectures. YEAR OF THE COBRA went on to transform catchy, almost upbeat rock moments into swirling psychedelia. YEAR OF THE COBRA are ready for the next step as their self-titled third full-length irrefutably proves. The super heavy "Year of the Cobra" gets her fangs into your ears and just won't let go!

There's one thing that everyone readily agrees on: Live concerts are the icing on the cake for musicians and fans alike. Every show is a very special experience and sometimes even creates an almost magical performance. Such moments are beyond explanation, you just have to be there to believe it or, in a best-case scenario, have them recorded for posterity - as American metal act Prong have done with their latest live album. Which is exactly what guitarist/vocalist Tommy Victor and bandmates Christopher Dean (bass) and Tyler Joseph (drums) have achieved on 'Live And Uncleansed'. Recorded over seven nights in July and August 2025, they are now ready to present eleven powerful live songs (plus three live bonus tracks), all pureand unadulterated, authentic and honest, which is the reason why the result is so incredibly captivating. "We were really well rehearsed, this is truly a live (!) record, everything is as is," explains Tommy Victor, proudly adding: "You can hear some of the little mistakes here and there, but that makes it cool."

With their self-titled full-length, RESTLESS SPIRIT have reached a point in their career where the band of friends from Long Island, New York knows exactly who they are and where they stand. As the eight tracks on "Restless Spirit" are the most distilled version of what the trio is about, they saw no need for further explanation in the title. So, what are RESTLESS SPIRIT about? Pure metal, no more, no less. Born from the steel mills of Birmingham this musical style has deep English working class roots that the East Coast outfit translates into an American sonic slang with elements from desert and stoner metal and even the occasional progressive flourish. As a result, they seamlessly merge classic heavy solos with roaring guitars and a pinch of psychedelic fuzz. In hindsight, the massive punch delivered to the gut delivered by their previous album, "Afterimage," set the trio onto a course that led directly to "Restless Spirit". Trimming away all sonic fat, focusing on the essentials, and refining their sound and songwriting down to it's heaviest core has yielded a record that promises to be timeless. RESTLESS SPIRIT are throwing out a rescue rope to all headbangers and particularly those dealing with all the cruelty that life can bring. "Restless Spirit" is a call to persevere in the face of others not understanding or even outright rejection. This album is about living on one's own terms, which was and is at the heart of metal.

The famous Ruhr Area, or the 'Pott' as it is called, was Germany's industrial heart that beat to the sound of steelworks and miners were risking their health and lives deep down in the eternal night of the coal seams. The Ruhr Area is also the place where Resurrected hail from, both mentally and physically, and it's history has served as an important part of the inspiration that is driving the brutal death veterans' eighth full-length "Perpetual". Ash, soot, and the ringing noise of steel hammers seem particularly fertile ground for metal - from BLACK SABBATH via JUDAS PRIEST to KREATOR and SODOM. On "Perpetual", Resurrected keep a steady course, which remains firmly on an old school death metal trajectory. This is completely befitting for a band that ranks among the earliest pioneers of the brutal style in their country. What makes the difference are the many years of experience, both in songwriting and on stage, which are reflected in the technical proficiency as well as the powerful and absolutely crushing tracks that are a tribute to their craft on this album. Resurrected spent a large part of 2025 channelling their decades of experience, talent, and unwavering passion for death metal into "Perpetual": Resurrected did not grow old, they got even better!

Sacrilege was formed in Birmingham in July of 1984. The original lineup consisted of singer Tam, guitarist Damian Thompson, bassist Tony May, and drummer Liam Pickering. In the summer of 1985, Pickering was replaced by Andy Baker. After several local performances, Sacrilege recorded their first demo tapes, which were well received in the English punk/hardcore scene as well as in metal circles. As a result, the small label C.O.R. (Children Of The Revolution Records) showed interest in the band. Sacrilege went into the studio to record the six songs "Lifeline," "Shadow From Mordor," "At Death's Door," "A Violation Of Something Sacred," "The Closing Irony," and "Out Of Sight" for the mini-LP Behind The Realms Of Madness. Musically, they followed the example of English bands such as Broken Bones, English Dogs, and Discharge, fusing the energy of punk/hardcore with the finesse of metal riffing. The original pressing on C.O.R. is said to have sold 11,000 copies in Europe alone at the time of release, with another 15,000 copies sold through Pusmort in America.

1980s Newfoundland, Canada, was a dreary, cold, wet, borderline impoverished place to be a kid. But, through the love of all things dark and heavy, a beast was brewing. Bob Average was coming out of his parents' house one day when he ran into Rod Wills. Rod was carrying an Onslaught record and Bob was carrying Corrosion of Conformity's Animosity. More than a record exchange was made - Schizoid was born. With scene veterans Chris Jerrett and Danny Thomas (replaced by Don Ellis) and newcomers Phil Winters in the fold, the band borrowed their friend Dave Sweetapple's cassette deck and proceeded to tear through their set in Rod's parents' basement. The Total Fuckin' Mayhem demo was released. A year later, the band headed into Don's parents' basement and recorded the Datin' Satan demo, releasing four tracks from that for an EP on their own imprint DUPP Records. The four tracks from the Beer Thief EP and five more from that session, plus a live track, are finally seeing the light of day on Schizoid "Total Mayhem" in March 2026 on Tee Pee Records!

Silencer's merciless emotional firestorm "Death - Pierce Me" is one of the few albums truly deserving the designation 'cult' as it climbed from humble beginnings of basically circulating only across the extreme underground to a widely acclaimed masterpiece with a massive following. In celebration of the album's 20th anniversary, Lupus Lounge will reissue this musical milestone in lavish editions that finally do justice to this pioneering depressive metal masterpiece. When Silencer released their one and only album "Death - Pierce Me", they had chosen the same title as their 1998 demo. In hindsight, it seems that the time was ripe for an emotionally challenging type of black metal that incorporated elements from doom and basically aimed for expressing the most bleak emotions of bereavement, loneliness, and utter despair. It is only logical that this subgenre of a subgenre became dubbed 'depressive black metal' - or gets sometimes even branded somewhat excessively as 'depressive suicidal black metal'. Around 1998 this new scene began to coalesce around two Swedish bands, Silencer and SHINING as well as the Quebecois MALVERY and US band XASTHUR, among others. The general template of this rising dark sound had been moulded earlier by such bands as Norwegians STRID and to some extent BETHLEHEM from Germany. Silencer even more than their peers, also quite openly demonstrate a massive influence of BURZUM as particularly the vocals could have been lifted straight from the Norwegians' earlier iconic "Hvis lyset tar oss" release. Yet, while SHINING steadily rose to notorious fame on their course of self-destruction and flirting with death and mental breakdowns, Silencer at first seemed to vanish into obscurity and all that remained were obscure rumours and legends. Only one interview in a German magazine had ever been consigned to history, no live shows were ever performed, nor has there been any sign of another album. Purely by word of mouth, the merits of "Death - Pierce Me" as an influential pioneering work have spread, resulting in continued steady sales that received an IMPALA Silver Award for the verified sales of 20,000 copies across Europe (excluding US and other territories' sales) in 2021.
