5CD set, an essential release for Byrds and country rock fans. Featuring two solo albums from The Byrds/Flying Burrito Brothers member. Plus solo live recordings spanning his career and a live album from the Gene Parsons Band. Along with unreleased studio demos. Recorded between multi-instrumentalist Gene Parsons' membership of The Byrds and The Flying Burrito Brothers, his 1973 debut solo album 'Kindling' is a country rock and bluegrass classic that also features his friend and fellow ex-Byrd Clarence White on several tracks. Parsons demonstrates his versatility by contributing guitar, banjo, pedal steel, harmonica, bass and drums. Acclaimed author of Are You Ready For The Country, Peter Doggett has written the notes for this box and describes 'Kindling' as "a joyous collection of bluegrass and country-tinged songwriting on which it's star demonstrated a dazzling multi-instrumental virtuosity. " This 5CD set is an essential release for Byrds and country rock fans and also includes Parsons' second solo album 'Melodies' from 1979, an entirely solo live recording 'I Hope They Let Us In' that spanned his entire career including versions of Byrds' favourites 'Gunga Din' and 'Bugler', plus a batch of mainly unissued 1980s studio recordings that were planned for his third solo album, and fantastic live recordings by the Gene Parsons Band. Gene Parsons played in the band Nashville West with Clarence White before they both joined The Byrds and the pair invented the StringBender in 1967 that changes the pitch of the B string on a guitar to create a pedal steel sound. They played together on The Byrds' albums 'Dr. Byrds And Mr. Hyde' (1969), 'The Ballad Of Easy Rider' (1969), '(Untitled)' (1970), 'Byrdmaniax' (1971) and 'Farther Along' (1971).

While Black influences are inextricably intertwined with the formation of the genre, there is a very short list of Black country performers who made a splash on the national charts or the public consciousness in the 20th century. After winning the 1974 "Trucker's Jamboree" at the Hollywood Palladium, Inglewood California firefighter Howdy Glenn began a recording career that not only gained him regional hits on an independent label, but found him appearing to rapturous crowds whenever and wherever he performed live. After singing at the Academy of Country Music's general meeting, he was signed to Warner Bros. Records by Andy Wickham (who had also signed Joni Mitchell, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris, Buck Owens, and more). Warner Bros. Released his first Wickham-produced single in 1977. His second, a cover of Willie Nelson's "Touch Me," spent six weeks on the charts. Glenn headlined at Gilley's in Pasadena, Texas, and found himself nominated for the ACM's Top New Male Vocalist award. It appeared as though country music had a possible new star on the rise. But, as happens inexplicably for some artists, after a few singles, and more material left in the can, a new album from "The Singing Fireman" (as he was dubbed by Warner Bros.) never materialized. Glenn's early singles were compiled on the Indian Head label LP I Can Almost See Houston, and he recorded another single, released on his own Fire Records imprint. Both failed to land further success, and Glenn continued on with his career in firefighting. I Can Almost See Houston: The Complete Howdy Glenn collects all the recordings and reexamines the importance and legacy of Howdy Glenn. Containing all 8 of his singles, plus 6 newly mixed, previously unissued tracks from the Warner Bros. #vaults, plus an outtake from his Fire Records sessions, this 23-track collection was Produced for release by Grammy® nominee Scott B. Bomar (The Bakersfield Sound) and Grammy® winner Cheryl Pawelski (Hank Williams - The Garden Spot Programs, 1950). With Restoration and Mastering by Grammy® winner Michael Graves, the packaging contains photos, ephemera, and new liner notes from Bomar, outlining not only a brief history of Black artists in country music, but Howdy Glenn's rightful place in the story.

After the success of her fiery 2024 LP, Baptized By The Blaze, Nashville outlaw siren India Ramey is back with Villain Era, set for release on May 8, 2026, via Copoco Records/Blue Èlan. Baptized By The Blaze was the story of Ramey’s journey through the fire, a harrowing passage toward healing and empowerment. Villain Era is firmly rooted in her own reckoning; it doesn’t ask for permission, it kicks the door wide open. “This album is the ‘healed’ me,†Ramey says. “I didn’t know how to have boundaries because I was such a people pleaser. If my boundaries offend you, I’ll happily play the villain in that story.†Ramey left the South for the first time to record in Los Angeles with two-time Grammy-nominated producer Eric Corne. Together, they built a soundscape as cinematic as it is cathartic, with a powerhouse band including Ted Russell Kamp, Eugene Edwards, Chris Masterson, Eleanor Whitmore, Kevin Brown, Boo Bernstein, and Haley Spence Brown. The result is Villain Era: ten spaghetti western–meets–honky tonk vignettes penned solely by Ramey, laced with grit, gallows humor, and emotional precision. With five studio albums under her belt, Ramey continues to be one of country music’s fiercest truth-tellers. Now, with Villain Era, she stands unapologetically in her power, delivering songs that cut deep and laugh loud, songs that balance the weight of lived experience with the freedom of release.

With The Way I Should, Iris DeMent stepped boldly into new territory, delivering a collection that balanced her fierce lyrical conviction with tender vulnerability. Released in 1996, this third studio album from the revered Americana singer-songwriter expanded on her folk and country roots, blending sharp political commentary with deeply personal storytelling.Backed by a fuller, more contemporary sound and featuring collaborations with legends like Delbert McClinton and Mark Knopfler, DeMent doesn't shy away from weighty topics. From government corruption ("Wasteland of the Free") to working-class struggle ("Quality Time"), she gives voice to the disillusioned with searing honesty and soulful grit.Yet for all it's pointed critique, The Way I Should is just as powerful in it's quieter moments. Songs like "When My Mornin' Comes Around" and "Keep Me God" shimmer with grace, hope, and an unwavering moral compass. DeMent's unmistakable voice anchors every track with a sense of authenticity that's rare and resonant. The Way I Should is a fearless statement from a singular voice in American music. Timeless in message and rich in heart, it remains one of DeMent's most compelling and relevant works. In celebration of the album's 30th anniversary, Yep Roc Records is reissuing The Way I Should on CD. The album is remastered by Mike Westbrook of Material Mastering.

Platinum-selling singer/songwriter Jackson Dean doubles down on the reputation he's earned for his gravel-toned vocals, wayward spirit, and thought-provoking, lyric-driven music with his third studio album, Magnolia Sage. Featuring an eclectic collection of songs that move from sweeping to soothing, rocking to ruminative; this album comes together to create a sound that is singularly Jackson Dean. Alive, sexy, and rugged, Magnolia Sage offers two different vistas to consider the notions of drifting, finding love and realizing one's place in the world.

Never released on CD, and unreleased until 1964, six years after Johnny Cash's 1958 departure from Sun for Columbia Records, Original Sun Sound spans both his first and final recordings for the label. The early "Wide Open Road" shows the singer still under influence of Hank Williams (as well being a rarity in featuring the steel guitar of A.W. "Red" Kernodle, who left the group shortly afterwards), but the sardonic, Charlie Rich-penned "Thanks a Lot," from one of his final Sun sessions, finds Cash beholden to no one but himself. There's also Cash's self-penned gospel song, "Belshazzar," an unusual inclusion in that his producer, Sam Phillips, usually recorded only the performer's secular material.
