JP Soars has spent over two decades building his reputation the way roots music was meant to be built: onstage, night after night, delivering a high-energy, blend of roots music that moves effortlessly through blues, rock & roll, Latin grooves, country, and gypsy jazz-never confined by genre, always guided by feel. That musical vision comes fully into focus on Gypsy Blue Revue, a collaborative project with acclaimed violinist, vocalist, and songwriter Anne Harris (Keb Mo & Taj Mahal, Otis Taylor, Cracker): a blend of songwriting styles and instrumental chops, set to a backdrop of Southern soul, roadhouse blues and rock, and eclectic folk music, recorded "all in one room, playing together. We just wanted it to sound like we do live."

When five-time Grammy award winner Taj Mahal intersects with The Phantom Blues Band, it’s one of those rare joints that hits you before you even know you’ve been hit. They walk in, plug in, and the whole room shifts. Studio assassins, road lifers, groove keepers and somehow still hungry. They are an internationally renowned Two-Time Grammy Award winning group.Taj Mahal’s fearless, open-hearted spirit still shadows the whole thing with that genre-hopping joy. He leads you down the road with a history lesson and the Phantoms carry it with honor to the Griot. Mahal sings and plays harp as he fronts an all-star lineup of legendary musicians with the three ringleaders for the Phantoms--Johnny Lee Schell, the soulful gunslinger with tone for days, Tony Braunagel keeps the whole ship steered straight and on time, every time, and Larry Fulcher, the anchor, the heartbeat, the quiet storm on bass. Additionally, Jon Cleary, with that unmistakable New Orleans piano swagger, Mick Weaver, a session master who’s playing slides in with an undeniable velvet magic, and in the horn section, Joe Sublett on sax and Les Lovitt on trumpet bring the orchestration into the full view of this genre. This band doesn’t ‘back” anybody. They lift you up, carry you, and dare you to rise higher. On this record they slide through blues, soul, R&B, and island color with the ease of men who’ve lived every bit of it. This is deep-groove, grown-folks music from a band that still plays like the night is young.‘Time’ is their new release on Resonatin’ Records / Thirty Tigers and celebrates over thirty years of making this uplifting inspiring and aspiring music together.

"32-20 Blues" is based on Roosevelt Sykes' "44 Blues" and Skip James' "22-20 Blues." It is one of the fastest-tempo tracks in Johnson's catalog, driven by forward-pushing, propulsive guitar phrases that make it especially thrilling. "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" stands out in Johnson's repertoire for it's unusual structure: fragmented, drifting lyrics set against a percussive groove built from the low strings of his guitar. A uniquely atmospheric and hypnotic performance.

This was Robert Johnson's very first release on 78rpm. "Kind Hearted Woman Blues" clearly shows the influence of Leroy Carr and is especially notable for featuring a guitar solo by Johnson unlike anything else he ever recorded. The song later became a blues standard, famously covered by Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, and many others. "Terraplane Blues" is one of the earliest blues songs to use the automobile as a metaphor for a woman. Over a powerful yet springy guitar, Johnson sings with such force that his high notes almost distort. A true classic that fully captures the dynamic intensity of his performance.

Recorded in 1995 and released on CD in 2019, this is the vinyl debut for this fantastic Dr John Album. "Ya know, dis would be dat thing I was always using my head for: a big band thing with my New Orleans riffs." Thus spoke Mac Rebennack, a.k.a. Dr. John, while tossing around ideas with his manager Stanley Chaisson ahead of a 1995 tour. Not long afterward, he manifested that vision in Cologne, Germany, where he recorded 16 tracks with the WDR Big Band. It remained on ice, until now. On the opening "Indian Red," Mac name-checks Mardi Gras Indian tribes and soars to new heights when WDR jumps in with the gale-force gusto of a truly big band, summoning a real second-line rave-up. "New York City Blues" swings with enough swagger to light up Times Square, while "I'm Just Lucky" invokes the glitz of Vegas in it's Rat Pack heyday. Both put a new spin on songs from Afterglow, the 1995 album Dr. John was touring behind, which also included moodier pieces like "Gee Baby." Though not every track is one for the ages, this live set makes a fine addition to every Dr. John fan's library, and delivers exactly what the good doctor intended to conjure: Big Band Voodoo.

Limited blue colored vinyl LP pressing. Produced by Dave Edmunds, this album successfully aimed the band in a more mainstream direction than the four commercially released albums that had preceded it when the single Tuff Enuff hit number ten in the Billboard Top 100 singles chart. The track was featured in the films Gung Ho and Tough Guys, as was the follow-up single Wrap It Up. With Kim Wilson on vocals and harmonica, Jimmie Vaughan on guitar and Fran Christina on drums, it was the first studio recorded album to be released with Preston Hubbard replacing Keith Ferguson on bass. Other guest contributors on various tracks include Al Copley and Chuck Leavall on keyboards, Geraint Watkins on accordion and Cesar Rosas and David Hidalgo providing additional vocals.

This duet date from 1990 demonstrates the deep blues feeling and technical mastery Archie Shepp has on the tenor saxophone. Comprised of four standards - 'Things Ain't What They Used to Be,' 'Body and Soul,' 'Pannonica,' and 'Round Midnight' - this set is one of Shepp's most enjoyable ever. The reasons are myriad, but it is in large part due to the fluid, loping bass of Richard Davis. Recorded in a club in front of a live audience, Shepp digs deep into his own history of influential tenor players and comes out not wanting, but on par with them, from Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis to Sonny Rollins to John Coltrane. His playing here is big, meaty, and warm, full of subtle emotions as well as bleating cries. Davis' sense of time and melody is nearly incredible on the title track and on 'Round Midnight.' The interplay Shepp shares with him is tasty, coming from fragmentary elements in Monk's changes; Shepp and Davis move around the lyric and cut to the heart of the tune's color and ambiguity. It's a haunting version and one that offers a completely different reading of the tune over 17 minutes. On 'Pannonica,' Shepp's blues feeling comes out of Ben Webster as well as Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis and his soloing is full of warmth, humor, and a ragged sort of elegance. This - like Shepp's date with Horace Parlan, Goin' Home - is a major addition to the saxophonist's catalog. UPC: 5060149623664Label: Pure PleasureRelease Date: 4.10.26Format: Vinyl

I want to shock people," says Solomon Hicks with a megawatt smile. His new songs race from earworm originals, past pop covers torn up with electronica and punky riffs, to reignited blues standards that prove how potent this genre still is in the right hands. "With this new record," reflects Hicks, "I wanted to showcase where my ear, my head and my guitar playing is at right now

Eric Gales' time is now. A rule-breaking, genre-fusing force of nature, hailed by giants like Joe Bonamassa, Dave Navarro and Mark Tremonti as one of the best guitarists on the planet, you'll find the Memphis blues-rocker's thumbprint on everything from his Grammy-nominated solo catalogue to the soundtrack of director Ryan Coogler's smash-hit horror movie, Sinners. But while Gales' latest release, Tribute To LJK, is a thrillingly modern record for the here-and-now, it's also a nod to his bloodline and the roots of his family tree. "I wanted it to be the ultimate tribute to my late brother, Little Jimmy King, to keep his memory alive and make sure people remember who he was and still is," says Gales. "I wanted to deliver his tunes to the world, through my eyes. And I wanted it to be badass - and that's exactly how it turned out."

For Robin Trower, stage and studio are two sides of the same coin. If you've followed the seven-decade career of the award-winning British bluesman, you'll know every song on One Moment In Time: Live In The USA. But unless you've pushed your way to the front of his sell-out shows, you've never heard them like this before. "I'm a different player on the stage," considers the 80-year-old. "It's almost impossible to get to that point in the studio. It's the sound of the guitar, it's the volume, it's the crowd. For what I do, it takes one hundred per cent commitment for it to work. But if you do it well, it's life-affirming."
