Sacred Cow (30th Anniversary Edition), newly resequenced by the band.Before he was writing and producing hits for Adele, Sia, Harry Styles, Lily Allen, Beck, Pink, and Paul McCartney, Greg Kurstin was one half of the band Geggy Tah. The other half was the vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Tommy Jordan. Both Greg and Tommy had younger sisters who couldn't pronounce their names when they were kids - Greg was known as "Geggy,' and Tommy was 'Tah' - but more importantly they were both musical savants. It was an amazing time for them with this unusual group, touring with a third member, the theremin virtuoso Pamelia Kurstin. They made three albums of blue-eyed soul together in the nineties (their 1996 song 'Whoever You Are' topped the charts and wound up in a Mercedes Benz commercial), and after that they moved to LA, as you did when you had a hit. Writing and recording the majority of Nocturnes at their home studio in Los Angeles, Leisha and Camila drew inspiration from '70s vinyl - and each other's company. After finishing the demos, their friend Wendy Melvoin (of Prince and the Revolution) invited Uh Huh Her to continue the production at her treehouse studio in Henson Recording Studios (now Chaplin Studios). "We would just drink wine and record for hours and hours," Camila says of this time. "It was amazing. It was total freedom."When it came time to mix Nocturnes, Melvoin suggested her friend and super producer Tchad Blake (The Bangles, Arctic Monkeys, Sheryl Crow, Cibo Matto), who put the finishing touches on the record from his studio in the English countryside. 'It meant the world that our fans directly supported the mixing of the album through online eBay auctions of memorabilia, vinyl, art, and even a couple private dinners, because that enabled us to enlist the powers of the incredible Tchad Blake,' Cam says. The entirety of those original mixes have never seen the light of day until now, on this 2026.As they contemplated rereleasing Nocturnes with Kill Rock Stars, Cam started digging around to find the album's original mixes. 'I chose Tchad's first and second mix attempts because I wanted to preserve his first instincts before we gave him a million notes,' she says. This is truly how he heard it on one or two tries. The songs are longer, they're more rocked out, they're a little more raucous.'Cam also surfaced a hypnotic song she'd written in 2020 called 'Shook' to include on the re release, and they also put their own, electrified spin on Sonic Youth's timeless and gritty 'Kool Thing.' Trá Pháidín are a mutable collective of musicians who are geographically, culturally and mentally torn between Conamara Theas, Cathair Chorcaí, Ciarraí, Uíbh Fhailí, Sligeach and Port Láirge, active in one form or another since 2019. The music they make, which to date has mostly been self-released, is of an ambitious breadth, embracing traditional Irish absurdity, jazz, folk and krautrock influences, whilst remaining tantalisingly beyond any one specific understanding of either the world around them or even themselves. More defined however, is their overall conceptual approach, focusing upon original Gaelic music and what lies beyond simply 'conas atá tú?'.Cloch 's Claí (trans. Stone & Wall), their first record to be released by World of Echo, develops their established interests into more adventurous waters (and walls!) than ever. Based on the historical significance embedded into dry-stone walls, the album presents a satirical view of Éire's relationship with her native tongue and the Gaeltacht (regions where Gaeilge - Irish Gaelic - remains the primary language). Constructed of ten tracks, each representative of a stone in a metaphorical stone-wall, Cloch 's Claí draws from styles of improvisation in Irish traditional music, exploring avenues of ornamentation and accompaniment in the tradition. As such, the arrangement changes in every performance, a new stone-wall articulated each time - the recording on this album represents just one such arrangement in one such performance. Inspired by Myles na gCopaleen's An Beal Bocht, the wall comes to embody a variety of themes scattered across the landscape and psyche of na Gaeltachtaí - tokenism, housing, gentry politics, ribbon developments and so on. The result is a music expressive of regional styles in traditional music, krautrock, free jazz, post-rock, minimalism and drone presented in a way that feels instinctively fluid and reflective of a hushed existentialism from the west of Ireland. Thanks to our friends at Warner Music/Rhino, we at Real Gone Music have been selling The Grateful Dead Dick's Picks series since the inception of our company almost 15 years ago. So, we are intimately familiar with every one of it's 36 volumes, and we can say without reservation that Dick's Picks Vol. 4-Fillmore East 2/13-14/70 is our favorite. And we're not the only ones. This volume presents one of the most famous stands of shows in the band's long history of touring, the 2/13/70-2/14/70 stand at the Fillmore East in New York featuring the Dead and the Allman Brothers Band. Just how good were the three sets that comprised each show? Well, when LSD chemist and band benefactor Owsley Stanley produced the official release History of The Grateful Dead, Vol. 1 (Bear's Choice), he lifted portions of each night's first set and acoustic second set in assembling that record, yet there was enough (very) strong material left over to make Dick's Picks Vol. 4 one of the greatest live albums in The Grateful Dead catalog. The biggest gem of the entire set-and some might say the crown jewel of the entire series-is the now legendary rendition of 'Dark Star,' but there really isn't a weak song on the album, and a rare live rendition of 'Mason's Children' even gives this one a collector kick. When Bob Weir says as he steps up to the mike at the beginning of the set, 'This ain't a show, it's a party,' he ain't kidding-if you're not on the bus yet, this one will save a seat for you. While Dick's Picks Vol. 4 has been out on vinyl before, we've given this edition our usual sonic upgrade, starting with a fresh mastering by Jeffrey Norman (in his words, 'This is definitely worth doing') that beefs up the bottom end of this sparkling recording. Lacquers are, as always, cut by Clint Holley and Dave Polster at Well Made Music, and our friends at Gotta Groove Records have pressed the 6-LP set on 180-gram black vinyl. The two-piece hardcover box includes an insert with Bear's original liner notes. We've limited this to 3500 hand-numbered copiesevery one of them will blow your mind.
