A visit to John Coltrane's home on Long Island, New York, ultimately became far more than a source of inspiration for alto saxophonist Jim Snidero. It catalyzed his continued evolution as both a composer and improviser, yielding deeply personal music while remaining firmly rooted in the tradition that shaped him. The result is an album that honors one of jazz's greatest visionaries while standing confidently as a compelling artistic statement in it's own right. Six originals reflect on various aspects of the home in which Coltrane composed A Love Supreme, with Snidero's choice of collaborators-pianist Stefan Karlsson, bassist Nat Reeves, and drummer Jason Tiemann-proving essential to transforming his vision into a distinctive musical statement. Some albums take time to arrive-but when they do, they carry the weight of everything that came before them. The Album of Labor is exactly that kind of release.Originally released in 2004 after years of delays and setbacks, this fourth album from Sweden's Veni Domine stands as a powerful and fully realized statement-refining the band's signature blend of progressive, doom, and power metal into something both more focused and more accessible, without sacrificing depth.Where Spiritual Wasteland leaned heavily into atmosphere and experimentation, The Album of Labour sharpens that approach with stronger melodies, more defined song structures, and unforgettable choruses. Tracks like ""Waiting For The Bloodred Sky"" and ""Inner Circle"" showcase the band's ability to craft hook-driven, emotionally resonant metal while still maintaining their progressive edge.At the center is vocalist Fredrik Ohlsson, delivering one of his most confident and mature performances-combining clarity, range, and emotional intensity. Guitarist Torbjörn Weinesjö continues to elevate the band's sound with expressive lead work, even weaving in subtle blues influences that add texture and character to the album's already rich sonic palette. The production is clean, powerful, and immersive, allowing every element-from the heavy rhythm section to the layered keyboards-to breathe and contribute to the overall experience.Lyrically, the album continues Veni Domine's exploration of faith, struggle, and apocalyptic vision, often drawing from biblical imagery and prophetic themes. The result is a record that challenges the listener-not just musically, but intellectually and spiritually. This is truly a thinking person's album.Remastered by Rob Colwell and presented as part of the Metal Icon Series, this reissue brings renewed clarity and depth to a long-overlooked gem-paired with updated artwork (12-page booklet with a jewel case) by Scott Waters (NLTM) and the inclusion of the band's original 2004 write-up to fans. This is not background music. This is an album to engage, reflect on, and return to again and again. For fans of Queensrÿche, Savatage, Candlemass, Solitude Aeturnus, Threshold, Haven, Saviour Machine

Some albums capture lightning in a bottle, while others take that lightning and refine it into something sharper, heavier, and more intentional, and Apostle's Metal For the Master (1989) is exactly that kind of record. Following the underground momentum of Hymns, Apostle returned with a bold mission to reimagine and elevate their sound, resulting in a tighter, more focused, and more powerful statement of U.S. neo-classical heavy metal driven by the vision and talent of Matt Harding. There is history woven into this release: some early cassette versions circulated under the name Apostle, and at one point the project was intended to be released as Tone Zone in 1987, but over time the recordings found their identity as Metal For the Master, a title that better reflects the album's intensity, purpose, and conviction. Recorded in Chicago at Tone Zone Studios, the home base of Rez Band, and produced by Glenn Kaiser with engineering by Roger Heiss, the album represents a unique convergence of artistry and influence, giving Apostle the platform to re-record key material with greater clarity, precision, and intensity. From the driving force of ""Overcomer"" and ""Conquerors"" to the anthemic power of ""King of Kings"" and ""Holy Soldier,"" the album delivers a confident, sharpened sound that pushes beyond the raw energy of earlier recordings, with tighter musicianship, more deliberate arrangements, and undeniable impact. Instrumental pieces like ""Parting the Red Sea"" and ""Armageddon"" further highlight the band's technical prowess and neo-classical edge, placing Apostle alongside elite players in the genre. Long respected by those who discovered them through compilations like East Coast Metal and White Metal Invasion, Apostle remained one of the great ""if you know, you know"" bands of the era, and this release changes that. For the first time ever, Metal For the Master arrives on vinyl, pressed on striking turquoise wax as a perfect visual match for the album's bold and refined sound. Part of the Metal Icon Series, this edition has been remastered by Rob Colwell to bring new depth and clarity while preserving the album's original character, and the package includes a 12x12 full-size lyrics insert, Apostle history, and a new write-up that frames the importance of this release within the band's legacy. Visually, the album is reborn with all-new artwork reimagined by NLTM's Scott Waters, giving this classic a fresh and powerful presentation worthy of it's sound. Limited to just 200 copies worldwide, this is a true collector's piece and the definitive vinyl version of one of Apostle's most focused and musically accomplished releases. If you are a fan of Saint, early Bloodgood, Yngwie Malmsteen, Judas Priest, Messiah Prophet, Sacred Warrior, Stryper, or Paradox, this belongs in your collection.

The Cat's Miaow started in 1992 as a home-recording duo, Bart Cummings and Andrew Withycombe knocking out songs on Withycombe's four-track. Soon joined by Kerrie Bolton and Cam Smith, the quartet spent the next five years quietly, slowly working away in the suburbs of Melbourne. They've long been spoken-of in hushed tones in pop circles for their perfectly unadorned nuggets of gentle indiepop mastery, put to 4-track tape and drip-fed to the world a few decades back via 7"" singles, cassettes and compilation appearances.Following a pair of recent and *very* well-received compilations on the excellent World of Echo label, The Cat's Miaow were inspired to regroup to play some shows and begin working on new material. The result is ""When You Smiled And Turned Away,"" remarkably the band's debut studio album and happily some of their finest recordings yet. All the hallmarks of the band's classic sound remain intact: a fragile, warm melancholia built around Bart and Andrew's elegant, spare songwriting, the exuberant patter of Cam's brushed drums and the glow of Kerrie's celestial soprano vocal.Themes of self discovery, regret, yearning and loss continue to loom large but are buoyed by sprightly tempos and subtle splashes of phased guitars and oscillating synthesizers. And at fourteen songs clocking in at just over half-an-hour, The Cat's Miaow are still masters of pop concision. It's a gift to have them back!

Released in 2009, Portals marked another creative leap forward for Arsonists Get All the Girls. Building on the chaos and experimentation that defined their earlier releases, the band delivered a more focused and sophisticated album without sacrificing the intensity and unpredictability that made them stand out.The songs weave together crushing riffs, intricate musicianship, dynamic songwriting, and atmospheric passages that add depth and dimension to the band's sound. Rather than relying solely on brute force, Portals balances aggression with composition, creating an album that rewards repeated listens and continues to resonate with fans years after it's release. This Brutal Planet Records edition enhances the album's clarity, power, and detail while preserving the energy and spirit of the original recording while also including ""Lost My Loss of Ruin (instrumental)"" as a bonus track. Portals remains one of the strongest entries in the Arsonists Get All the Girls catalog and a compelling example of how far the boundaries of deathcore and technical metal can be pushed.

Before the East Coast new-wave circuit had a map, The Shades were already driving it. Formed in Central New Jersey from the high-school group Nobody Special, the six-piece developed it's own songs while holding down four-set bar nights and carrying them to the Hot Club, City Gardens, the 9:30 Club, the Rat and Bookies. They shared stages with the Mumps and, in September 1979, The Police. Between 1978 and 1980, sound engineer John DeMarzo captured The Shades in the Evans brothers' basement on a TEAC quarter-inch four-track machine. Basement Sessions 1978-1980 gathers nineteen of those previously unreleased demos, then adds both sides of the band's 1979 Go-Go single, ""Hello Mr. Johnson"" b/w ""Are You My Angel?,"" originally distributed in Britain through Rough Trade. Four-track tapes, six musicians and hooks enough to escape the basement. Liner notes by David M. Snyder. Remastered by Prof. Stoned.

Thirty years after it's original release, Pigwalk remains one of the most important and influential albums in the history of rap-metal. Released in 1996, the album arrived before the genre exploded into the mainstream and helped establish Stuck Mojo as one of it's earliest innovators. Combining crushing groove metal riffs, hardcore aggression, and rhythmic vocal delivery, the band forged a sound that was both groundbreaking and unmistakably heavy.Produced by Devin Townsend, Pigwalk captures Stuck Mojo at a creative peak. Tracks such as ""(Here Comes) The Monster,"" ""Mental Melt Down,"" and ""Only The Strong Survive"" showcase the band's ability to balance power, groove, attitude, and memorable songwriting without sacrificing intensity. The album helped bridge the gap between traditional groove metal and the rap-metal movement that would dominate heavy music in the years that followed.Over the past three decades, Pigwalk has earned it's reputation as a cult classic and a cornerstone release for fans of aggressive, forward-thinking metal. It's influence can be heard throughout generations of bands that embraced the fusion of heavy riffs, rhythmic vocals, and crossover energy. Few albums from the era have maintained their relevance and impact as successfully as Pigwalk. This 30th Anniversary Edition from Brutal Planet Records and Limited Run Vinyl marks the first time Pigwalk has ever been pressed on vinyl in the United States. Officially licensed from Century Media Records, the release is pressed on Emerald Green Swirl vinyl and includes a full-size 12"" x 12"" insert. After four decades and more than 40 albums, California psychedelic-pop songwriter Anton Barbeau returns with Come Home To Me, a 14-song album that sets aside the conceptual weight of 2025's Dark Mystery Temple trilogy for the simple pleasure of pop music in motion. Recorded mainly at Barbeau's Auburn home studio, it darts from clipped new wave and jazzy piano balladry to Cocteau Twins-tinted psychedelia and deep P-Funk. Colin Moulding and Dave Gregory of XTC appear alongside Andy Metcalfe, Donald Ross Skinner and Terry Edwards. ""World Calls Love"" grew from a decades-old cassette fragment found while clearing Barbeau's childhood Sacramento house, while ""All Thru The Night"" was written during his final days there. An old tape, a last cup of tea and fourteen fresh reasons to come home.

Originally released in 2000, Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous stands as one of the most creative, unpredictable, and emotionally resonant albums in the King's X discography. A product of pure artistic freedom, this record was written collaboratively in the studio by all three band members, resulting in one of the most cohesive and inspired bodies of work the band ever created. Free from the expectations of commercial radio or label interference, Mr. Bulbous is King's X unfiltered-bold, strange, and strikingly beautiful. The album's title-like much of it's charm-defies easy explanation. In the spirit of Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, the band chose a name that felt curious, quirky, and maybe even meaningless or maybe it meant everything. What unfolded musically was an ambitious and emotive journey, with tracks like ""Fish Bowl Man,"" ""Julia,"" and ""She's Gone Away"" serving as standout moments of depth and experimentation. Ty Tabor's guitar solo on ""She's Gone Away"" is often hailed as one of the greatest of his career-recorded in a single take, raw and perfect. Jerry Gaskill's contributions as a lyricist and vocalist are more prominent here than ever before, adding layers of poetic nuance to the album's texture. Doug Pinnick's signature soulful presence anchors the record with undeniable heart and groove. What once may have seemed like a left turn for the band has aged into a fan-favorite classic. Even those who didn't immediately connect with Mr. Bulbous upon it's release now celebrate it's lasting impact and layered brilliance. As Jerry Gaskill reflected years later, Tape Head, Mr. Bulbous, and Manic Moonlight represent a special time for the band-records created shoulder to shoulder, in complete unity. Now, for the first time ever, Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous receives the deluxe vinyl treatment it so richly deserves. Remastered in 2025 by Rob Colwell (King's X, Nevermore, Galactic Cowboys) with incredible sonic clarity, the album is presented on stunning dusk-orange vinyl-limited to just 150 copies worldwide. The reissue includes a 12x12 full-color insert featuring lyrics and rare band photos, all housed in a premium jacket as part of Brutal Planet Records' exclusive Limited Run Vinyl series.Celebrate the 25th anniversary of one of King's X's most daring and rewarding albums-a record that challenged expectations and emerged as a timeless work of musical integrity. Please Come Home... Mr. Bulbous isn't just a title; it's a mysterious invitation into a world that only King's X could create. Ultra Clear Vinyl. Underoath reinvents the balance between chaos and harmony with each successive release. Their compositions, conjured from creative tension, become iconoclastic anthems. They're Only Chasing Safety is the fourth studio album by American melodic hardcore band Underoath, released June 15, 2004 through Solid State Records. In the heavy and punk music scene, the album is considered a watershed moment; the blend of heavy metal and hardcore influences with a strong pop/punk sensibility spawned a new branch of heavy music that became synonymous with the screamo scene of the mid-2000s. The record went gold in 2011.

Jade Colored Vinyl. Underoath reinvents the balance between chaos and harmony with each successive release. Their compositions, conjured from creative tension, become iconoclastic anthems. This year the band celebrates 20 years of their album Define The Great Line. Coming on the heels of 2004's They're Only Chasing Safety, Define The Great Line saw Underoath pivoting towards a more aggressive sound. The record's unconventional, and at times jarring, intensity served as a stark contrast to the pop-leaning trends taking over heavy music at the time. Misanthropic horror-themed acoustic punk. The music will steal your heart... then eat your brain. ""Wretched. Filthy. Ugly. Combines the jittery, hyperactive feel of acoustic folk rock and the trashiness of horror movies. The band behind it, Harley Poe, fabricates a unique sound all it's own. Singer/songwriter Joseph Whiteford has composed a collection of 10 electrifying songs. The lyrics are naive and callow one minute, then become bitterly frustrated and rebellious the next. Whiteford's intense views of despair and derangement come off as catchy and even humorous at times. His lively personality keeps the music engaging and compelling without overindulging in mood swings, the confessional lines of melancholy accompanied by Kevin Philips' busy acoustic bass riffing. Isik Kural's Motorcycles and Cherry Wind is a sonic travelogue of stories waiting and wanting to be told, of seekers passing through a loop of time as they become witnesses to the glories of the ancient ruins. The album holds sounds of timeless quality-like inherited folklore, draped with secondhand nostalgia-taking the shape of whoever is eager enough to claim it as their own. Rich and full of character like the dusty mystery of an archeological site, Kural whispers to the living and the long gone alike in the poetic embrace of Motorcycles and Cherry Wind.Of Turkish origin, composer and songwriter Isik Kural cut his teeth strumming nylon guitar strings in his adolescence, accompanied by playful lyrics composed solely of stumbled upon phrases and conversations. What began as a casual curiosity laid the foundations of his adult manifestations, inspiring him to pursue academic studies at the University of Miami for a life built around music. Inquisitive by nature, he grew into a frequent passenger, following rhythms and old wives' tales from Helsinki, to Glasgow (where he now resides), to historic landscapes. These escapades, particularly his wanderings through antique, golden hued old worlds, shape the emotional undercurrent of Motorcycles and Cherry Wind.Motorcycles and Cherry Wind's title, and it's animating spirit, trace back to a trip to Marrakech in 2022. As Kural observed the hustle and bustle of the town center, he was less keen on factual documentation than on the fleeting feelings entangled in sound. Upon first listen, warm memories of cities long visited come flooding back into the mind-not with a single image, but with the entire sensory experience-the mineral smell of packed earth, the texture on the walls of the village, the way the light softly radiates from the cherry red fruit huddled under the heat at a roadside stall on a balmy October afternoon. Time spent traveling often leaves memories that can't necessarily be mapped in the moment; however, with distance, they tend to reveal new patterns. On Motorcycles and Cherry Wind, Kural has collected these interior tracings like cherished trinkets-a field recording from a 'dolmus' in Istanbul, the afterglow of swimming in ancient Lycia, birdsongs from Bridge of Allan-building an inexhaustible archive to which he returns as a seasoned collector. He sorts through them unhurriedly, listening with renewed attention, uncovering perspectives that may have previously escaped him, before weaving their precious threads into texturally neat, atmospheric arrangements. Piano keys, guitar riffs, woodwind, and even traditionally scored sheet music all find their way into the layers, giving the album a spiritual, almost transcendental resonance. Every song on Motorcycles and Cherry Wind is an ode to the ancestral music makers-their borrowed melodies passing through enough hands to arrive at new meanings and new purpose each time. Nine musicians pass through the record, and their names alone sketch a map: Gabriel Bastos (violin and viola, Brazil), Noelia Diaz (cello, Argentina), Giulia C (flute, Italy), Sasko Temelkoski (bass clarinet, North Macedonia), Teresa Castanon (clarinet, Spain), Hannah Gobbett (clarinet, England), Niki Yaghmaee (violin, Germany), Ezgi Daloglu (flute, Istanbul), and Loris S. Sarid (clarinet, Glasgow). The scattered ensemble's geographies and cultural references come together in Glasgow, collapsing into a single formation on Motorcycles and Cherry Wind, Kural at the epicenter leading the compositions through quiet but unmistakable depths. Kural keeps alive glimpses of these obscure traditions in his modern studio abstractions, drawing the listener into a single living artifact-yesterday's world sealed in today's hand. The origin doesn't matter as much as the warmth that lingers.Isik Kural's Motorcycles and Cherry Wind arrives October 30, 2026 in vinyl and digital editions via RVNG Intl.

Having worked with the likes of Alex G, Tinashe, Mitski, and countless others over a 15-year span, Ryan Hemsworth has developed an uncanny ear for talent while simultaneously honing his craft as a shapeshifting producer comfortable in any genre setting. Although known for his prolific output and seemingly endless high-profile collaborations, Numbskull is Hemsworth's first solo album since 2018's Elsewhere, and his first for Topshelf Records. On Numbskull, Hemsworth squares a tangled mix of influences ranging from shoegaze to lo-fi to metal, all squeezed through the lens of his globe-trotting pop background. Hemsworth embraces these heavy, distorted influences on the blown-out lead single ""One Step,"" a blaring foundation for the boisterous vocal performance delivered by Sarah Tudzin of Illuminati Hotties.Hemsworth's links to the hardcore scene have grown over the years, leading him to Ian Shelton of Militarie Gun, who introduced Hemsworth to MSPAINT's Dylan Kern, whose raw and raucous vocal feature for ""No One Else"" calls to mind the Beastie Boys in a song that feels spiritually indebted to video game menu music. But the Canadian producer explores his heavier influences through more than just electronic pop on Numbskull. Take ""Never Learned"" featuring Tegan and Sara, the album's twist and midway anchor point. It's an unexpected jolt of huge guitar and blast beats, with Hemsworth playing the role of rock bandleader in an urgent, infectious emo anthem about succumbing to who you really are.

Peddler Themes by Skyzoo brings together a compact set of tracks that highlight his storytelling skills and his feel for classic hip-hop arrangements; the release dates back to 2017 and was described in coverage as a project firmly rooted in boom-bap, with eight tracks in total. Musically, Skyzoo leans on densely woven sample textures, tight drum patterns, and precise rhyme schemes that sit at the forefront of the production. Contributors include producers like Illmind and Apollo Brown; on select cuts Skyzoo contributes beats of his own, which keeps the EP multi-layered both in content and in sound. The production largely sticks to classic sonic elements, augmented by occasional modern touches. Lyrically, Skyzoo moves between observations from everyday life and references to hip-hop tradition, with nostalgic samples and direct nods to his influences structuring the tracks. Concrete uses of samples, such as the Cortex loop on ""Long Money"" or the intro from ""Wild Style"" on ""For Real (er)"", underscore the deliberate connection to earlier sound sources. The edition released on Old Soul Music documents this phase in Skyzoo's work and puts the producers and sample choices at the center of the listening experience.
