  • the album cover for Amercan Balalaika Company - Fire And Passion (Mod)

Alliance Entertainment Amercan Balalaika Company - Fire And Passion (Mod) (CD) (New (N))

A  unique rarity originally released in 1982, this recording was of a local, South Florida Balalaika ensemble (aptly named American Balalaika Company) and was one of the last releases from the indie world music label, Request Records, which started operations in the early 1950s. The group featured the musicians Arthur Gans on prima balalaika, alto balalaika, bouzouki, flute and vocals; Michael Greenspan on accordion, synth-accordion, soprano recorder and vocals; Paul Merz on contrabass balalaika, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, charango and vocals; and Sandra Denise Peterson on prima balalaika, percussion, vocals and choreography. The music they played was mostly traditional balalaika music, with added touches of other world music strains and a little Americana thrown in for good measure. For example, track one is a traditional medley that also contains ""Laura's Theme"" from Dr. Zhivago; track four is a traditional medley that also contains ""Zorba's Theme"" from Zorba The Greek, track 9 is a traditional medley that also contains strains of Hank Williams ""I Saw The Light,"" and the traditional country/bluegrass tune, ""Rocky Top."" This lost album has been newly remastered for this exclusive release, and finally made available in the digital domain. UPC: 894232904928Label: Essential Media ModRelease Date: 7.31.26Format: CD

With shimmering acoustic guitars, golden harmonies, and songs that seemed tailor-made for open highways and endless skies, America became one of the defining folk-rock albums of the 1970s.From the instantly recognizable strum of 'A Horse with No Name' to the wistful beauty of 'I Need You' and 'Sandman,' this is the album that launched the band's career - and helped set the tone for the decade's laid-back West Coast sound. It's a record that feels both intimate and expansive, full of youthful wonder and a timeless sense of melody.America earned the band a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, went multi-platinum, and remains a touchstone for generations of songwriters and listeners alike. Deluxe Edition 2xLP 2014 reissue on red vinyl. In the years since it's release, American Football's self-titled debut full-length has quietly become one of the most fiercely beloved titles in the Polyvinyl catalog. Though the trio - Mike Kinsella (Cap'n Jazz, Owen, Owls), Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes - only played a few shows and released just one other record (a three-song EP that preceded this full-length), their influence and legacy has steadily continued to grow in the time after they disbanded. From it's now iconic artwork to the band's unique songwriting approach (highlighted by an emphasis on shifting time signatures and sincere lyrics), American Football proves a record doesn't become a true classic through flashiness or catering to trends, but rather the deep emotional connection it forges between the music and the listener. After guitarist Steve Holmes discovered a set of cassette tapes containing a variety of unreleased recordings, the band curated an album's worth of these rare live recordings, demos, and practice sessions (in which the group rehearsed material they never recorded elsewhere) to complement the original record. Now available on 2xLP and 2xCD, American Football (Deluxe Edition) features beautifully expanded packaging that incorporates new photographs from Chris Strong along with lyrics, detailed liner notes written by the band, and never-before-seen band pictures.Track List Never Meant The Summer Ends Honestly? Limited 180 gram orange colored vinyl LP pressing, includes digital download. In 1999 Polyvinyl, then only 3 years old, released an unassuming debut album by a band called American Football. The band played a dozen shows and then parted ways. Then something remarkable happened: for the next 15 years, the album was discovered over and over, going on to sell more than 100,000 copies and becoming one of the most influential indie albums of all-time. In 2014 and 2015 American Football played their first shows in 15 years, selling out venues the world over. Organically, the band started to write new material, and years of ideas gelled into the a picture-perfect second album - to be released this October - 17 years after the first.Track List Where Are We Now? 4:44 My Instincts Are the Enemy 4:49 Home Is Where the Haunt Is 3:26 Born to Lose 4:54 I've Been So Lost for So Long 4:36 Give Me the Gun 3:24 I Need a Drink (Or Two or Three) 4:58 Desire Gets in the Way 3:28 Everyone Is Dressed Up 3:39

Limited 180gm Light Blue vinyl LP pressing, includes digital download. American Football's original triumph, on their 1999 self-titled debut, was to reunite two shy siblings: emo and post-rock. It was a pioneering album where lyrical clarity was obscured and complicated by the stealth musical textures surrounding it. Like Slint's Spiderland, or Codeine's The White Birch, even Talk Talk's Laughing Stock, American Football asked far more questions than it cared to answer. But there wasn't a band around anymore to explain it, anyway. The three young men who made the album - Mike Kinsella, Steve Holmes, and Steve Lamos - split up pretty much on it's release. 15 years later, American Football reunited (now as a four-piece, with the addition of Nate Kinsella). They played far larger shows than in their original incarnation and recorded their long-anticipated second album, 2016's American Football (LP2). The release was widely praised, but the band members still felt like their best work was yet to come.

Blue Smoke vinyl. American Football's first album showcases cleanly picked guitars, intricate drumming, and the vocals of Mike Kinsella (Owen, Cap'n Jazz). The band, made up of Kinsella, Steve Holmes and Steve Lamos rooted itself in Champaign and recorded this album at Private Studios with Brendan Gamble (Braid). As a band, American Football dissolved into the history books almost as soon as this album was released, but it's success continued to grow in their absence and the band eventually reunited in 2014 for the record's 15th anniversary.Track List Never Meant Summer Ends Honestly? • the album cover for American Football - American Football - LP4

Alliance Entertainment American Football - American Football - LP4 (CD) (New (N))

When the idea of recording a 4th album came up (for the second time), American Football knew things were going to get darker. After touring a year's worth of sold-out 25th Anniversary shows around the world and releasing a covers album (featuring Iron & Wine, Ethel Cain, Blondshell & more), the quartet of Mike & Nate Kinsella, Steve Lamos, and Steve Holmes, linked up with producer / engineer Sonny Diperri (My Bloody Valentine, M83, Kurt Vile) to record what would become their most substantial record to date. Blending atmospheric textures with emotive, post-rock style catharsis, LP4 is unlike anything American Football have recorded thus far, yet it fits right in with their evolving and beautiful catalog. Recorded during a 10-day retreat at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA, LP4 finds the band intentionally walking into the abyss - themes of divorce, upheaval, and uncertainty are at the forefront, yet the band sounds more engaged and legitimized than ever before. Opening track, "Man Overboard," showcases each member's strengths - the un-matched style and jazz swing of Lamos' drumming, the lyrical vulnerability and multi-instrumental mastery of both Kinsellas, and Holmes' signature guitar work - all of it swirling together like a shoegaze tornado, the guitars and bass surging into something twisted and warped. Other standouts like "Blood On My Blood" showcase the band's unique use of alternating time signatures while "Bad Moons" (the longest track the band has ever recorded) includes some of Kinsella's most intense lyrics yet. The album also features additional guest vocals from Turnstile's Brendan Yates ("No Feeling"), Wisp ("Wake Her Up"), and Rainer Maria's Caithlin de Marrais ("Blood On My Blood"). LP4 is an ambitious artistic statement from a band who have continued to push the boundaries of genre and culture. It's a gorgeous and elaborate album, one that takes it's time to show you it's beauty, while hinting at the darker parts that are trying their best to stay hidden.
