Chris Odium is a new face on the Dissident label roster, but he's been a friend of the label (and on our musical radar) for a very long time! His deep, melodic releases on labels from Silk Music to Nuevadeep have delivered consistent inspiration and emotional moments for over a decade. His signature sound blurs lines between deep house, techno and progressive, and we're really happy to welcome him to Dissident Music! Augmented Reality soars with classic Detroit-style pad stabs, ethereal melodies, and whispered vox, all underwritten by a captivating Reese bassline and grooving drums. Emulated Emotions continues the story; led by a mesmerizing bassline and swung percussion, atmospheric pads and moody synths carry the vibe forward and level up the energy. Both of these tunes are timeless yet modern, and we think you'll love them as much as we do! Thanks as always for playing and charting. Stay tuned for more from Dissident Music!

Double vinyl LP pressing. Alive With Ghosts Today is Chris Potter's new suite inspired by the story of the abolitionist John Brown. Potter, widely regarded as one of the most influential improvisers and composers of his generation, traces Brown's 1859 raid on Harpers Ferry - a moment that exposed the contradictions, violence and ideals at the heart of America. He uses the narrative as a lens to explore belief, sacrifice and the unresolved tension that still sits in American life. The music pushes into a raw, American- rooted soundworld shaped by blues, folk, Copland-esque harmony, and the rhythmic drive that runs through the country's history. The ensemble was built to sound like a small- town band with limited resources but deep character - guitar, bass, drums, violin, clarinet and trombone. Bill Frisell's guitar forms the emotional centre, carrying the grain and warmth Potter imagined while writing. Nate Smith and Burniss Travis lock the pulse with weight and feel. Sarah Caswell's violin moves between classical clarity and fiddle grit. Clarinetist Rane Moore and trombonist Zekkereya El-magharbel shape the edges of the music with distinct colours, turning written material into something lived-in and human. Their collective sound gives the suite it's shape and force.

Chris Stamey began writing and playing music in Winston-Salem, NC, in the mid 1960s, in the so-called Combo Corner scene, alongside Mitch Easter and Peter Holsapple. In 1976, he self-released Sneakers, one of the very first American "indie" records, then relocated to Manhattan in 1977 to play and record with Alex Chilton. He formed The dB's in 1978, with Holsapple, then recorded well-received solo records for A&M and Warners, and toured with Anton Fier's Golden Palominos (with Michael Stipe [R.E.M.], Jack Bruce [Cream], and Bernie Worrell). As a producer, arranger, and mixer, he has worked with over a hundred artists, including Alejandro Escovedo, Kronos Quartet, Flat Duo Jets, Skylar Gudasz, Branford Marsalis, Ryan Adams, Tift Merritt, Le Tigre, Those Pretty Wrongs, The Salt Collective, and Yo La Tengo. From 2010-2018, Stamey was orchestrator and musical director for an international series of concert performances of Big Star's classic album Third, and continues to tour as part of the Big Star Quintet. A "songwriting memoir," A Spy in the House of Loud (Univ. Of Texas Press), was published in 2018. His recent releases include Anything Is Possible (Label 51), with contributions from the Lemon Twigs and members of Brian Wilson's band, as well as The Great Escape, Lovesick Blues, Euphoria, and New Songs for the 20th Century. After years of shaping dancefloors worldwide and carefully curating the sonic and visual identity of Up The Stuss, Dutch favorite Chris Stussy presents his most expansive and personal statement to date with his debut album, 'Lost, Found & Forgotten...'. The album unfolds across three interconnected chapters - 'Lost', 'Found', and 'Forgotten' - each revealing a different side of his creative world across 19 tracks while remaining tethered to a singular wider vision. At it's core, 'Lost, Found & Forgotten...' is an exploration of creative freedom. Visually and conceptually guided by the image of a kite, the album reflects movement, perspective, and balance. Floating freely yet always anchored, the kite mirrors Chris's approach to music: unrestricted in emotion and imagination, but grounded in groove, craftsmanship, and intention. It's a symbol that naturally extends the Up The Stuss identity; pointing skyward, embracing openness, and encouraging curiosity."This album has been a long time in the making, and I'm excited to finally share it with you. The process behind it - exchanging ideas with other artists and creating music outside of my comfort zone - has been an incredible experience. It gave me a true sense of freedom, allowing me to not think about boundaries or expectations. I've never been more proud of a project than this one. It's deeply personal, and it represents my sound as a whole. I hope you listen with an open mind and find something in it that resonates with you." - Chris Stussy. The 'Lost' chapter opens the album by giving new life to music once left behind. These are tracks written across different moments in Chris's journey, ideas that never quite found a home until now. Rather than relics of the past, they emerge re-discovered, refined, and fully realized.'Found' represents inspiration in motion. Sparked by collaboration, digging, and shared creative exchange, this chapter captures the moment when ideas connect, and color floods the sky. The album closes with 'Forgotten' - a nod to the deeper cuts, the B-sides, and the moments that reward patience. This chapter is for the heads and diggers; tracks that may not demand immediate attention but reveal their value over time. UPC: 820200036612Label: Up The StussRelease Date: 4.24.26Format: Vinyl

Limited edition of 1000 numbered copies on gold coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. In 1991, Chris Whitley made his debut with the beautiful album Living with the Law, which immediately showcased his brilliant songwriting and unique guitar playing. Blending blues, roots and folk, the debut was positively received by critics and aficionados of these more traditional genres. Growing up, Whitley listened to Southern radio, which played artists such as Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. His career started by playing with artists like Arto Lindsay and Michael Beinhorn. Interestingly, Whitley lived in Belgium for a short time in the 1980s, where he started his career playing guitar for 2 Belgen and Nacht und Nebel. In the 1990s, he started his solo career at Kingsway Studio in New Orleans, owned by none other than Daniel Lanois. The result was an album characterised by the use of traditional instruments such as the slide guitar and banjo. All of this is accompanied by his splendidly timbred voice and honest lyrics exploring themes such as freedom, desire and human struggle. Sadly Chris Whitley passed away in 2005, but his influence on contemporary songwriters and blues artists remains strong.

Futurismo are proud to present the iconic 1982 debut album, Only Theatre of Pain, by gothic legends CHRISTIAN DEATH. Available on deluxe 2xLP, CD digipak and limited Cassette. Hailed as a masterpiece of it's genre, and considered by many as ground zero for Deathrock, Only Theatre of Pain is a seminal work of unholy power and pitch-black emotion. Whilst this record may have it's roots in punk - the origins of this true original version of Christian Death took place in Southern California during the early 80's hardcore explosion - it cannot be overstated how important this record was in shaping the subsequent landscape. Emerging like an adrenaline shot into the heart of darkness, this unrestrained and mysterious recording still remains unclassifiable.Featuring the late visionary Rozz Williams (then only in his teens) alongside punk luminary Rikk Agnew (guiding light in the Adolescents), James McGearty and George Belanger, Only Theatre of Pain's musical exploration is adorned with psychosexual lyricism and an innate struggle with faith. Rozz's vocals creep and possess, demonic and haunting, against the captivating, unmistakable guitar work of trailblazer Agnew. It's a performance, but also a truth, perhaps Only Theatre of Pain is an art show, as much as it is an era defining record.Aside from their spellbinding sound, it may have also been the lore of Christian Death that set them apart from other LA goth bands of the time. A near-nude Rozz Williams nailed to a cross at the Whiskey a Go Go may have played a part, but what it is apparent when you listen to the unhallowed musical stages on Only Theatre Of Pain is a depth of vision and orchestration that goes beyond the simple stance of brooding many of their contemporaries emulated, delving into the realms of pure unadulterated catharsis. The result is an era defining statement that remains as unsettling, innovative, and resonant today as it was over four decades ago.Only Theatre Of Pain is presented here in a new remastered deluxe pressing with a second disk containing early demos and rare material, further demonstrating why Christian Death stood alone in their sound and approach. This journey of religious depravity, recorded by the legendary producer Thom Wilson in a matter of days, harnesses the huge concepts of band projecting older than their years. Ahead of the curve in sonic artistry and visual aesthetics, this slab of sacrilegious American punk is nothing short of essential listening for the gothic inclined. A must for fans of The Misfits, Bauhaus and The Cramps. This classic LP comes in limited edition 'Blood Sanctum' colored vinyl and contains a second disk of bonus material. It is packaged in a gloss laminated sleeve with metallic ink, containing printed inner sleeves, a large fold out poster, redux artwork featuring the photography of Edward Colver, and liner notes by Lisa Fancher of Frontier. On June 19, Storyville Records releases Between Then and Now, a new trio album by acclaimed American pianist Christian Sands, joined by Danish bassist Thomas Fonnesbaek and Swedish drummer Rasmus Kihlberg. An international collaboration that captures contemporary jazz at the intersection of American tradition and Nordic musical sensibility. The album features 9 tracks, balancing original compositions by Sands and Fonnesbaek with inspired reinterpretations of jazz standards and classic repertoire by Bobby Timmons, Richard Rodgers, Luiz Bonfa, and John Coltrane. Recorded in the spirit of Copenhagen's jazz tradition it presents jazz as both a living art form of the present and a dialogue with it's past, hence the title Between Then and Now.The collaboration grew from Sands' relationship with the Copenhagen jazz scene, initiated when former Montmartre musical director Christian Brorsen discovered him online and invited him to Denmark. Like earlier generations of American jazz musicians, including Ben Webster and Dexter Gordon, Sands quickly became a compelling presence in Copenhagen, where attentive listening and subtle interplay guide every performance. Over the years he has been a frequent guest in Denmark and loved by the audience here.Together, the trio represents a truly international jazz language. Sands is celebrated for his virtuosic piano playing, rich harmonic imagination, and improvisational energy. Fonnesbaek, one of Europe's leading bassists, offers melodic clarity and technical brilliance shaped by the Danish jazz tradition, while Kihlberg contributes a refined rhythmic approach marked by elegance, precision and responsiveness. Together they have a compelling sound of openness yet you always feel the classic American jazz tradition in the music. This is modern American/Scandinavian music, not just jazz.Listen to Sands' inventive arrangement of Giant Leaves, which merges John Coltrane's Giant Steps with Joseph Kosma's Autumn Leaves, served as a tribute to legendary Danish drummer Alex Riel, who influenced both Sands and generations of jazz musicians in Europe.Original compositions such as Sands' Where Children Still Play and Where the Light Settles, and Fonnesbaek's Searching in Sahara reveal the trio's lyrical and exploratory approach. The Nordic hymn Til ungdommen (To the Youth/Kringsatt av Fiender) is another beautiful example of how this trio sound together. Enjoy this contemporary recording with three of the most interesting musicians on the Scandinavian and American jazz scene right now.
