Chris Acker's latest collection of songs, Famous Lunch, is in his words, a "growing pains album." When writing the record, the New Orleans' based folk musician found himself hunting for a voice that wasn't just an imitation of the one he'd been using on the last 30 songs he'd made. "At the same time, I worked hard to find a certain voice for myself over the previous 3 records and I didn't want to abandon that."While the album finds him continuing to transcribe life's fleeting and provocative banalities with refreshing grace, the songs on Famous Lunch are intentionally more absurd, stylizing his lyricism as both poetic and disarming simultaneously- commencing with "Sh*t Surprise"-an earworm with a vernacular that stays true to it's title. Inspired by George Saunders and Sasha Pearl (and wanting to make a song that sounds like Eagles saying the word "sh*t" over and over), "Sh*t Surprise" is the most Chris Acker song possible, in that it's earnestness arrives in spades and comes varnished with a one-of-a-kind, spectacular gnarliness. "We'd match our breath in the upstairs room and we'd hold together 'til I smelled like you," Acker sings, before nose-diving into that unforgettable chorus about stepping in a smelly, disgusting pile of sh*t.More than anything else, Famous Lunch finds Chris Acker at his most sentimental and grateful, as he sings about Bunn coffee machines, gas pumps smelling like "the underside of a fingernail" in August, "10-inching" bread, stealing country club lawn-mower motors, father-son fables, impatient buffet lines, and a broom that "hasn't been used since the last time I used it." Acker's eye for detail remains, and his lexicon includes phrasings that spin out like a hypnotic wash cycle. Seeing the world through his eyes, language remains something worth falling into-growing pains and all.

Chris Cornell commemorates his life and legacy not only as a singer, but as a poet and one of the most prolific writers and greatest voices of the modern rock era. Vicky, worked extensively with Chris’ bandmates and friends to compile a collection of material from the late artist’s expansive career, showcasing his contribution to music history with selections culled from the deep catalogs of his three influential bands— Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave— as well as songs from his solo career. ShThe first unreleased track, “When Bad Does Good,” was produced, recorded, and mixed by Cornell and was found in his personal recordings archive. The track was a favorite of his and it wasn’t until friend Josh Brolin, reminded Vicky of the unreleased song, that she decided to share it with his fans.“Since Chris’ sudden passing I have put all my efforts and energy into sharing his music and legacy with his fans from all over the world,” says Vicky. “I felt we needed to create a special collection to represent all of him - the friend, husband and father, the risk taker and innovator, the poet and artist. His soaring vocals found their way into the hearts and souls of so many. His voice was his vision and his words were his peace. This album is for his fans.”The breadth of all 17 selections on Chris Cornell display the full span of his artistic achievements, from the full-on kick of Soundgarden’s seminal “Black Hole Sun” to the mournful yearning of Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike” to the sensitive depth of Audioslave’s “Like A Stone” to his spot-on solo theme to the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, “You Know My Name.” This collection also contains a pair of unreleased recordings: a touching cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” that was cut live at SirFEATURES:

Limited vinyl LP pressing including digital download. Digitally remastered edition of the 1999 debut solo album from the Grammy-winning, Golden Globe- nominated singer/songwriter and Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman. The album's title has been restored to the originally intended Euphoria Mourning (he had been dissuaded from this original title and reluctantly dubbed it Euphoria Morning). Euphoria Mourning was Cornell's only album between the split of Soundgarden until he joined members of Rage Against the Machine in forming Audioslave. The album was a collaboration with Alain Johannes and Natasha Shneider of the band Eleven, who appeared on the album, co-wrote five of the tracks and were credited as co-producers, engineers and mixers with Cornell.Track List

Brace Up! Is the first ever studio release from the duo of Chris Corsano (drums) and Bill Orcutt (guitar). Recorded in Brussels at Les Ateliers Claus by Christophe Albertijn on March 19th and 20th, 2018. "Over the past six years or so, drummer Chris Corsano has proven to be one of Bill Orcutt's most reliably flexible collusionists. Regardless of whether Bill is cluster-busting electric guitar strings, weaseling around with cracked electronics, or playing relatively spacious free-rock, Corsano is able to provide the proper base for his aural sculpting. A lot of Orcutt's instrumental work has traditionally felt hermetic even though he's exploring caverns of explosive ecstasy. One often got the impression Bill was operating in the way John Travolta did in the classic 1976 ABC television drama, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. Orcutt's actual interaction with collaborators emerged not from communication so much as pure observation. While he was fully cognizant of his musical surroundings, his reactions to it were walled off. This approach did not encourage sonic dialogue so much as parallel streams of discourse. These streams could interact with each other, but not in particularly standard ways. On Brace Up!, their first ever studio release, this precept has changed considerably. Whether it's a function of emotional familiarity or an intellectual choice I dunno, but there's a whole new kind of duo exchange going down on this record. Bill and Chris are clearly playing off each other's moves throughout the album. And it really raises the level of the music to an all-time high. From the cop car see-saw of 'Poundland Frenzy' to the mutual pummeling of 'Paranoid Time' (possibly a Minutemen tribute?) to the lazychicken- gets-stung-prog of 'She Punched a Hole in the Moon for Me,' the sounds on Brace Up! #display a constant flow of ideas and instantaneous conjugation of newly forged verbs. As great as Bill and Chris's previous duo records have been, this one's greater." - Byron Coley UPC: 843563106884Label: PalilaliaRelease Date: 5.8.26Format: Vinyl
Jazz trumpeter Chris Coull and his quartet are joined by acclaimed singer Imogen Ryall in a wonderful selection of music from George Gershwin's opera Porgy & Bess. The numbers from this opera have truly crossed over into other genres of music - many are jazz standards, and some have been covered by pop and rock artists. The Coull Quartet and Imogen Ryall deliver superbly crafted and poised interpretations of this great and perennially popular music. Courtroom Wedding, the feral new album by singer-songwriter-punk rock legend Chris D.'s new unit Poison Fang Society, succeeds In the Red Records' release of two expansive albums by the bandleader's Divine Horsemen, Hot Rise of an Ice Cream Phoenix (2021) and Bitter End to a Sweet Night (2022).The taut, economical eight-song set grew out of several songs penned in the immediate wake of the COVID pandemic lockdown and originally envisioned as material for a third Divine Horsemen record. But logistical problems involving the band's co-lead singer Julie Christensen's ability to record in Los Angeles led to the formulation of a new solo configuration rooted in the past.Poison Fang Society guitarist Larry Schemel, most recently of Death Valley Girls, and Tucson-bred drummer Johnny Ray are both veterans of the eight-piece lineup heard on the Flesh Eaters' 1999 album Ashes of Time. They are joined by bassist-keyboardist-guitarist Sharif Dumani, who also engineered the collection and co-produced with Chris D.The songs Chris brought to the studio reflect a shift in style: "I was really trying to write some more traditional kinds of songs, but not make them sound really anonymous. On the last couple of albums, the Divine Horsemen albums, there was a lot more cut-up stuff. I still did some cut-up in the lyrics with this record, but not as much. The lyrics to 'Cellars to Weep' were very influenced by songs like Bob Dylan's 'Subterranean Homesick Blues' or 'Highway 61 Revisited,' even though song doesn't sound like that. I wanted to keep that kind of surrealist humor that Bob Dylan has - those nonsense phrases that add meaning when they're all put together."With tracks inspired by subjects as diverse at the gun-toting MAGA couple who pointed their weapons at Black Lives Matter protesters ("Goddamn Thieving Shame") to the sleazy come-on cover lines of '50s pulp paperbacks ("Sex Kitten"), Courtroom Wedding flexes a lean, potent sound that recalls the knife-edge attack of the Don Kirk-era Flesh Eaters and the heavyweight vibe of Chris' second solo album (as Stone by Stone), 1989's I Pass for Human. Like this punk grand master's finest work, it displays an electric, tormented immediacy."Courtroom Wedding sounds more live than the Divine Horsemen records," Chris says, "and I think that's a good thing."

BEST OF CHRIS ISAAK - If any artist retains the right to put together an 18-track album of their previous work, it's Chris Isaak. The remastered album includes the Grammy-nominated track "Somebody's Crying," as well as his biggest hit to date, "Wicked Game." This "Best Of" album is a perfect compilation of Isaak's work as it showcases his growth as an artist and a person, while maintaining the integrity of his signature heartbreak-blues sound.

For Chris Lake, making people dance is more than a career: It's an obsession. Over nearly two decades, the GRAMMYr-nominated artist has become one of house music's most compelling figures. In that timehe's lived many lives as a producer, DJ, and label head, all connected by his ability to make bigmoments both onstage and in his music. Recent singles such as "Summertime Blues," his brisk butbreezy collaboration with Sammy Virji, and his songs with Aluna - the smoldering "Beggin'" and hypnotic"More Baby" - have yielded appearances on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Expertlyoccupying the middle ground between dance music's underground and commercial realms, the Britishproducer's finely-tuned ear for club-forward basslines and catchy vocals plays a large role in hissuccess. Ultimately, it's the result of following his creative instincts. "I guess I primarily make stuff for meand what feels good for me," he says, "but I try to give it my flair without taking it too seriously. I'm notscared of a song, I'm not scared of a melody, and I'm not scared of a moment. I just try to have fun withthis stuff."In addition to DJing and producing, Lake is the founder of Black Book Records. Launched in 2017 andsince signed to Astralwerks, it's home to many of his biggest tracks in recent years, such as "A DrugFrom God," his sky-scraping collaboration with Grimes' AI girl group, NPC; the transcendent "IRemember"; and the long-awaited ID "In The Yuma" (ft. Aatig). Releases from heavyweights like GreenVelvet, Armand Van Helden, and Kevin Saunderson prove it's status as a coveted label for producers, butLake has also undertaken Black Book Records as a developmental platform, helping launch newernames including Cloonee, Miane, and Mochakk. With his years of experience, he feels a responsibility tonot just increase their exposure, but guide early-career artists in navigating the industry. Through specialevents like the recent Black Book On The Pier weekender and an exclusive collaboration with premiertechnology-enabled fashion brand MNTGE, the label's reach is ever-expanding."We're not just looking to put out big records and make lots of money," Lake says. "We care aboutartists, we care about the scene, we care about events, and the bigger picture that's relevant to thedance scene. Most labels struggle to put that all together and I feel very proud that we've managed todo that."In the midst of an ongoing tour, Lake pauses to think about what keeps him going almost twenty yearson. Perhaps more than making people dance, his specialty is leaving dance music's people and culturebetter than he found it. "It gives me this increased love of the power of a single song and the effect that itcan have on anyone's life," he finally replies. "I love the idea that I have this blessing to make a song andgive one or more people that feeling. It's just amazing, and I feel like as the years go on, I get better andbetter at doing it."
