Album number six has the all-female thrash band release their inner beasts at staggering speed and with formidable emphasis. Once again working with DESTRUCTION’s Martin Furia, Slave Machine is a crushing statement—it comes, sees, and conquers.

Evolution can be ugly and beautiful, painful and euphoric. An Undying Love For A Burning World is the first new release from Neurosis in a decade, and a potent statement of intent and rebirth-one that marks the first new steps of resolve and resilience. An Undying Love For A Burning World is an epic album of colossal hypnotism-beautiful, fearsome and utterly compelling in a way that only Neurosis can be. Aaron Turner (Sumac, Isis) joins the band on vocals and guitar, a name whose legacy is intertwined with the band's own and a true kindred spirit. Neurosis have never been afraid of change, and here they embrace endless regeneration, surrendering to the emotional exorcism through heaviness and distortion that their music incites. Just as the universe tends towards balance, Neurosis' cacophony of noise, rhythm and dissonance always resolves towards moments of beauty. The addition of Turner's powerful vocals and wildly creative and unhinged approach to guitar proves to be a vital force as Neurosis find themselves again at the mercy of evolution and expression. The album was recorded by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Sumac, and Great Falls) at Studio Litho in Seattle during three weekends this winter, and mixed in three days just six weeks before release at Evan's Antisleep Audio in Oakland. Neurosis will play their first show in seven years on the traditional lands of the Blackfeet Nation in Montana as part of the Fire In The Mountains festival by special invitation of Firekeeper Alliance, a non-profit dedicated to reducing youth suicide in Indian Country.

It’s been decades since New Found Glory were etched onto pop-punk’s Mount Rushmore, but as the Coral Springs, Florida, quartet approach their 30th anniversary, they’ve proven with their 11th studio album Listen Up! - and first for Pure Noise Records - that they still have plenty to say. Shaped by guitarist Chad Gilbert’s battle with metastatic cancer and the enduring bond with bandmates Jordan Pundik, Ian Grushka, and Cyrus Bolooki, the record captures resilience and gratitude in tightly wound riffs and sing-along hooks reminiscent of their early 2000s classics. Written face-to-face in Gilbert’s Nashville home with a riff-first mentality, the album recalls Sticks and Stones and Catalyst while pushing forward with songs like first single “100%,” road-tested alongside The Offspring and Jimmy Eat World. Produced by Steve Evetts with contributions from Dan O’Connor of Four Year Strong, Listen Up! balances nostalgia with urgency, embodying the band’s mission to inspire a new generation of fans while offering longtime listeners a renewed sense of strength, positivity, and joy—because, as Pundik sings on “Beer And Blood Stains,” at the end of the day, “it’s good to be alive.”

NEW IDEA SOCIETY signs to Relapse and offers their new album, Fire on the Hill. The band has taken on differing shapes and forms over the years, but at its heart is the duo of Mike Law (Wild Arrows) and Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man), a pair enraptured and united by the alchemical power of songwriting. With a connection that can be traced back to their high school years, between them exists an intuitive understanding that informs exactly what NEW IDEA SOCIETY is at any given point.
Although the pair have come a long way since their earliest explorations in audio in the late 90s, the roots of their alliance were forged in those makeshift basement studios. For Fire On The Hill, Law and Brodsky took a more collaborative approach to songwriting than on previous releases. With Brodsky describing their process as “microscopic” and Law marveling at the particulars of the minutiae they pored over, the attention to detail and their meticulous approach to making adjustments in service of the work shines through in the cohesiveness of this collection of songs. With demos passed back and forth over months - Brodsky sending them in the early morning, and Law taking the evening shift - the songs evolved naturally; refining a chord progression, adapting a lyrical perspective, or in the case of the track Lantern, rewriting the words entirely.
Thematically the album is about love, in its many forms. With each track detailing some element of navigating emotional relationships - the beauty, the pain, the loss and the hope - the duo have captured the immediacy and urgency of such feelings, tempered by a sliver of yearning that stops short of tipping into nostalgia.
Now with years of experience to their names, alongside a developed vocabulary and extended sonic palette to draw from, they have created something specifically and idiosyncratically NEW IDEA SOCIETY. Fire On The Hill is them in full flight, at the height of their powers.

A woman is trapped on a cruise ship. A preacher decides to go down with his town. A man at the florist finds himself lost in the meaning of the arrangement. These and other people at personal and societal extremes are the subjects of ten timely, timeless short stories collected as meticulously crafted pop songs by The New Pornographers on their forthcoming album, The Former Site Of. The album, like Continue as a Guest, finds The New Pornographers-bandleader A.C. Newman, Neko Case, Kathryn Calder, John Collins, and Todd Fancey-expanding their already rich catalog in surprising fashion. Joined by legendary session drummer Charley Drayton (Divinyls, Keith Richards, Fiona Apple), the space contained in a New Pornographers song has never been this clearly articulated or generously textured, giving a distinct pulse to the characters whose lives spill out in Newman's tender, evocative lyrics. The Former Site Of adds new depth to the sound Newman shook loose through building and recording in a home studio, fine-tuning the band's creative process far beyond the lockdown-era necessities of remote collaboration. "Having time in my studio really opened things up," he explains. "I can get the skeleton of a song together first-just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible-before bringing it to the band and running from there." Two albums into this shift, The New Pornographers are creating universes of intricately textured sound and narrative detail, every layer keyed to reveal an unexpected new facet. As on Continue as a Guest, one of the more readily apparent layers is the way a song forms itself around a featured instrument. On The Former Site Of, it's a mandolin which, in Carl Newman's hands, lends lead single "Votive" it's sense of acceleration as it builds from the atmospheric sweep of it's synth and keyboard opening to a classic, wide-open jam. "Hands are cupped around a match / I'm just trying to keep the lights on," Newman sings on the track, the metaphor-hanging on despite the precarity of life-a thread that weaves through The Former Site Of. "Bonus Mai Tais" is, in a sense, about the flame going out, Newman writing directly of meeting a friend with advanced cancer for drinks, disarmed by their candor in the face of death. It is a brutally sad song, the anguish of the moment hanging in Newman's voice, and one of the band's most beautiful, with Neko Case's and Kathryn Calder's harmonies acting as the scene's ethereal mirror. The Former Site Of places many of it's subjects on the edge of oblivion-their time growing short, their situation doomed-but hanging on. This is also true when The New Pornographers turn their focus inward as they do on "Pure Sticker Shock," Newman's lyrics grappling with self-worth. That they can identify themselves among such a disparate cast-even the Cassini-Huygens satellite of "Spooky Action"-ties the album together before the final repeated lyric of it's title track, the way into the heart of each of these songs warmly lit and inviting. Far from being the expected next chapter from The New Pornographers, The Former Site Of is an argument against expectation by a band that continues to evolve rather than rest on their laurels. Even in it's darkest or most self-deprecating moments, there is an effervescence to the music here that is irresistible, an affirmation that the struggle of it's characters and the listener, like a photograph of a distant planet, is worth it.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds return with new album, Wild God. Across the ten tracks of the album, the band dance between convention and experimentation, taking left-turns and detours that heighten the rich imagery and emotion in Cave's soul-stirring narratives. It is the sound of a group emboldened by reconnection and taking flight. There are moments that touch fondly upon the Bad Seeds' past but they are fleeting, and serve only to imbue the relentless and restless forward motion of the band. Produced by Cave and Warren Ellis, and mixed by David Fridmann, Cave began writing the album in 2023. With sessions at Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London, the Bad Seeds added their unique alchemy, with additional performances from Colin Greenwood (bass) and Luis Almau (nylon string guitar, acoustic guitar). "Wild God... there's no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it," says Nick Cave.

Melt is the debut solo album and "alternate reality" from María Zardoya, the lead singer and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated indie-pop band The Marías. The idea began with a question, which came to Zardoya while isolating in the snowy hills of Upstate New York: "Is love worth the pain?" As if under nature’s spell, Zardoya transformed her winter heartache into a collection of intimate psychedelic ballads, imbued with a touch of gothic romanticism.

With The Stories We Tell Ourselves, San Antonio, TX alternative rockers Nothing More's sixth album overall and first since their self-titled 2013 effort, the band sets the bar even higher for cutting-edge rock music. Lead single "Go To War," showcases singer Jonny Hawkins' dynamic vocal range over a mix of electronic and organic instrumentation. "Trust is the foundation of every relationship," Hawkins explains. "As trust erodes, our need for control grows. 'Go To War' is about how we circle the problem, unknowingly spinning the web tighter. If you circle enough, it becomes a spiral. If you spiral enough, it becomes a war." For fans of Papa Roach, As Lions, Like A Storm, Shaman's Harvest, Aranda, Devour The Day, Sanit Asonia and Through Fire.

'Rhythm Of The Rain' from The Cascades and 'Raining In My Heart' from Buddy Holly & The Crickets lead in to The Everly Brothers' 'All I Have To Do Is Dream' and more chart gold from Bobby Vee and Marty Wilde. Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons feature with the much-covered 'Working My Way Back To You', and there's still room for a run of '60s hits that were jukebox essentials from The Mamas & The Papas' with 'I Saw Her Again', Sandie Shaw's superb 'Long Live Love', Petula Clark's 'I Couldn't Live Without Your Love', and more pop brilliance from Dusty Springfield with the full drama of 'I Close My Eyes And Count To Ten'. Richie Valens' 'Donna' precedes the collections' final tracks with Andy Williams' 'Almost There' arriving before The Walker Brothers' epic 'Make It Easy On Yourself'. NRBQ's 1973 fan favorite returns • Features 5 bonus tracks. • Includes new liner notes by Q scribe, John DeAngelis. • Remastered by multiple Grammy Award-winning engineer, Michael Graves at Osiris Studio. Welcome to the Q Workshop in which we find the newly-made quartet (after the departure of singer Frankie Gadler), following producer/engineer Eddie Kramer into Jimi Hendrix's brand-new Electric Lady Studios in New York City. Workshop, the now fan-favorite and classic NRBQ album, threw off the singles, ""Get That Gasoline Blues"" and the album's opening take on the Sonny Terry/Brownie McGhee song ""C'mon If You're Comin'."" This particular platter also gifted the world Terry Adams' composition, ""RC Cola And A Moon Pie,"" later inspiring the name of the band's Moon Pie festivals. Additionally, the band added the Delmore Brothers classic, ""Blues Stay Away From Me"" which they had previously recorded for 1972's album, Scraps. Of particular note, with the departure of vocalist Frankie Gadler, Al Anderson and Joey Spampinato stepped up for more vocal duties and on board for the new recording, the now-going-forward, semi-permanent Whole Wheat Horn section (comprised of Terry's brother Donn Adams on trombone and Keith Spring on saxophone often accompanied by Terry on coronet/trumpet and Joey Spampinato on saxophone). For the new remastered edition, five bonus tracks have been added and only serve to make this reissue of Workshop indispensable for Q fans worldwide. Spampinato's ""Trouble In The Henhouse,"" Donn Adams' ""Dry Up And Blow Away,"" and Terry's ""Electric Train"" are all derived from the Workshop sessions, giving us listeners even more of the original. These are augmented by a lively alternate version of ""RC Cola And A Moon Pie"" plus an updated take of ""Get That Gasoline Blues."" Not that updated though, it was recorded the year after Workshop was released at the request of the label Kama Sutra in 1974 in response to the U.S. gas shortage. As an extra bonus, the track includes original member Steve Ferguson dating from when he briefly rejoined the band! Guest players Kenny Sheehan (rhythm guitar) and Steve Shook (acoustic guitar) come along for the ride as well.
