Future Development is Del the Funky Homosapien’s third album and, following his departure from major label Elektra, his first solo full-length for his independent label, Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. Originally released on cassette in 1997, and later reissued on CD and vinyl in 2002, the album largely relied on in-house production from Del along with contributions from Hiero crew members A-Plus, Opio, and Toure. The only guest feature on the album is from crew member Casual, who joins Del on the energetic “Checking Out The Rivalry.” Sonically, Future Development bridges the funk-heavy stylings of Del’s debut with the darker, more futuristic textures he explored on No Need for Alarm. Lyrically, Del refines his rapid-fire wordplay with sharper thematic focus, tackling life in Oakland, societal observations and hip-hop culture, all with a blend of humor, streetwise insight, and multi-syllabic dexterity. Ultimately, the album captures a snapshot of his progression from raw talent to a more conceptually matured songwriter. It remains a significant and under-appreciated chapter in Del’s evolution, showcasing early seeds of the creativity and independence that would come to define much of his career thereafter.

Critical Thot is the bold new collaborative album from Bay Area-based rapper/producerSha Ray, and producer/electronic musician DJ Haram-two uncompromising artistsreshaping rap and experimental sound. It is an intriguing pairing; Haram is one-half ofthe duo 700 Bliss with rapper and poet Moor Mother and has several solo records underher belt-including 2025's critically acclaimed Beside Myself (Hyperdub)-and highprofile collaborations with BbyMutha, Fever Ray, Ghais Guevara, and Armand Hammer.Meanwhile, although Critical Thot is Sha Ray's official debut album, her reputation as anext-wave talent precedes her. Haram got wise in 2022 when she saw Sha Ray performat a show in Brooklyn."We spoke at the venue and after that I followed her on social media. She gave anincredible performance, so later on when she slid in my DMs asking for beats, I wasalready on board," Haram explains. An Armand Hammer/DJ Haram show in LA was the nexus for these connections toyield fruit. Sha Ray flew down from the Bay to link with Haram, and although the twodidn't end up recording anything that day, it was the springboard for the cross-countrycollaboration that culminated in Critical Thot. The whole album was made remotely:Haram cooking up beats in Brooklyn and sending them to Sha Ray, who would sendback demos and notes. They got to know each other as artists, and as people, while theyworked on this project."Haram and I have had so many overlapping experiences working as women in themusic industry, which really enriched our bond. That, and her very striking approach toproduction, really inspired a lot of the writing on this record," Sha Ray says. That writing is razor sharp and refreshingly direct. Sha Ray quickly proves herself to bein a class of her own, navigating even the knottiest of DJ Haram productions withouttaking her foot off the gas. Haram digs deep into her bag with beats that run the gamutfrom experimental and abrasive to slinky fun to darkly foreboding. Percussive thuds andshots are layered with intricate details and soft linings. A trappy banger dissolves intoa flood of strings. A sparse industrial soundscape slowly coheres into a cacophonousuppercut of a rap record. Sha Ray bobs and weaves her way through every drum breakand synth with a defiant ease."As a rapper I'm pretty exclusively interested in interrogating misogyny and sexuality inmy work. Critical Thot is a deliberation on unapologetic feminine authority, while beingvery honest about the complicated truth of being a participant in self-objectification,and sexuality as a social currency," Sha Ray elaborates. "This record focuses a lot ondefining power in feminine sexuality as relational and ever-shifting, and thus inherentlyimperfect. However, it is a power that I have and I am going to use it."Critical Thot features contributions from Nappy Nina, JWords, and Archangel.

SICK! Is my humble offering of 10 songs recorded in the wake of the worldwide coronavirus pandemic and it's subsequent lockdowns. Before the virus I had been working on an album I named after a book I used to read with my mother ('The People Could Fly'). Once the lockdowns hit, people couldn't fly anymore. A wise man said art imitates life. People were sick. The People were angry and isolated and restless. I leaned into the chaos cause it was apparent that it wasn't going anywhere. these songs are what happened when I would come up for air. Peace and love to Zelooperz the enigma, The Armand Hammer, and my good friends Alchemist and Black Noi$e. Peace and love to u. TRACKLISATING: 1. Old Friend 2. 2010 3. Sick! 4. Vision (feat. Two turntables and a microphone. There is a truth in the clarity of that simple coda, a truth that also belies the breadth of what is possible within it's confines. Sometimes you gotta get reminded. I Guess U Had To Be There, the new album from NYC rapper ELUCID and veteran producer Sebb Bash, is one of those ones. So fresh it sounds like it was made tomorrow, but bet money you could put this on in '89 and get heads bopping. There are moments in music when masters of their craft cross paths at the height of their respective powers-records like Madvillainy, Liquid Swords, Dr. Octagonecologyst, and Hell Hath No Fury-where the result is more than the sum of it's parts. ELUCID and Sebb Bash find themselves in this heady, seemingly effortless ephemera on I Guess U Had To Be There. Everything is both familiar and groundbreaking. The beats shift and flip under ELUCID's feet but he tightropes it all, delivery nimble as a mountain goat, producer and rapper moving in perfect synchronization. Some shining stars make memorable appearances: billy woods, Breezly Brewin, Estee Nack, Shabaka Hutchings. But this is a two-man show, and the duo keep the spotlight where it belongs. I Guess U Had To Be There is a captivating, convention-defying listen and a highwater mark for two of the best artists in the genre.

EMINEM releases Recovery just over a year after his last album, 2009's Relapse. Relapse put the cap on an impressive ten years of recorded output, and contributed to EMINEM being the biggest selling artist of 2000-2009. In recognition of this, Neilsen SoundScan named him their Artist of the Decade. "I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," remarked EMINEM. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."

The OG of prairie folk rap returns with Heater In My Truck II, an album that is a sequel in both name and spirit to his vinyl-only album from 2003. Epic proves here that he is a master at manifesting the mundane through music, touching on such exciting topics as his "Old Shit Out in the Garage," putting a "Survey in a Box," and the beautiful "Wallpaper," all done with a mix of earnest honesty and humble humour. He also honours the roots of hip hop with songs like "Lethal Test Pressings" and "Cassettes," along with plenty of references to hip hop history matched in number only by his references to Canadiana. You can tell these are two things close to his heart. Unlike his last two albums, Heater In My Truck II taps the talents of multiple producers, such as Moka Only, Moves, Maki, Aries, Gods & Nmbrs, and more, but the album is purposefully curated to create a jazzy, chill vibe with enough upbeat bops to get the toes tapping along with the head nodding. Recorded alongside the darker, heavier, and more experimental A Library Called Calder, Heater II is more emo folk rap than that album or even Nassau Manor. And to provide a little more vocal variety, Epic calls on the lyrical prowess of his friends Noah23, Emprime, Inky, Aries, and newcomer 33, who all add their own unique touch to the proceedings. Yet another choice addition to the legacy of late-era Epic.

Backwoodz Studioz is excited to announce the release of Crayola Circles, a collaboration between rapper Fatboi Sharif and producer Child Actor. While both artists have long standing connections to Backwoodz, this album marks their first collaboration of any kind and breaks new artistic ground for all parties. Sharif's previous album, Decay, released on Backwoodz in 2023, was a haunting experimental rap masterpiece, an acid trip in a mental hospital. On Crayola Circles Sharif trades menacing psychedelia for a simmering stew of blacklight expressionism, his verses slipping effortlessly through the swells and tides of Child Actor's masterful production. No matter how uneasy the waves grow, Sharif is at ease, a truth teller whispering anti-riddles in your ear. This album feels like a new chamber for Child Actor, as well. The producer has been on an impressive run since dropping CINE- a collaboration with rapper Cavalier- on Backwoodz in late 2024. Child Actor has shown up in the liner notes of everyone from Navy Blue (The Sword & The Soaring) to Earl Sweatshirt (Live, Laugh, Love) to ELUCID (Revelator) to Open Mike Eagle (Neighborhood Gods Unlimited), to Ghais Guevara (A Quest to Self-Mythologize), amongst others. On Crayola Circles Child Actor's production is dynamic, shifting and sliding into new phases and movements in an instant. The beats are full and knotty, leaning into jazz and folk, while remaining tethered to the tender minimalism that is his signature. It's a difficult balance for any producer, and here it is executed perfectly, placing us in a world of wood and brass, cowhide and undersea piano. On any other record, this soundscape would steal the show - and it very nearly does - but Sharif's command never wavers, ever in control; a lucid dreamer in an induced coma. There are no guests, no skits, and no interludes. There might not even be songs, instead Crayola Circles seems akin to a great river; singular, traversing forest and jungle, mountain and valley, running from mouth to endless sea.

The highly anticipated collaborative album, GOLDFISH, sees two of contemporary hip-hop's most revered and distinct production minds, Hit-Boy and The Alchemist, finally join forces for a full-length statement. Far from a simple beat-swap, this project is a masterclass in sonic cohesion, blurring the lines between their signature sounds to forge a new, golden-hued identity. Beyond production, the duo step from behind the boards to behind the mic to trade verses throughout the project, adding a personal layer to their creative vision. GOLDFISH is a deeply immersive listen, perfectly balancing the West Coast muscle and polished, anthemic quality of Hit-Boy's work with the dusty, abstract texture and cinematic suspense that defines The Alchemist's aesthetic. The result is a sound that feels both street-tested and museum-worthy. A collaborative manifesto, showcasing the infinite possibilities when two generational talents decide to link up, creating an instant classic in the canon of producer/MC albums.

Jason ".IDK." Mills' latest project, Even The Devil Smiles, is a gripping reflection on survival, transformation, and the moments of fortune that forever changed his path. Drawing on his own history of incarceration and a pivotal twist of fate that allowed him to regain his freedom early, he channels that lived experience into a body of work that feels both urgent and unflinchingly honest. Through vivid storytelling, he unpacks themes of betrayal, spiritual conflict, and resilience. Every track pulsates with the tension of lived experience, capturing the stakes, choices, and breakthroughs that defined his journey.True to Mills' multidisciplinary vision, Even The Devil Smiles exists as more than music. It is presented as a cultural artifact that bridges hip-hop's mixtape era with contemporary design and high art. The result is a project that carries the grit and immediacy of raw, hardcore rap while positioning itself as a collectible work that resonates beyond music, inviting listeners and tastemakers alike to engage with it as both a deeply personal narrative and a lasting cultural statement.
