Vsevolod Zavidov (born in 2005 in Moscow) is now considered one of the most promising young pianists to emerge from the great Russian tradition. A pupil of Nelson Goerner's, he made his name on the international stage by winning the very first Radu Lupu Prize in 2024 and the UBS Young Soloists Prize in 2025. He chose to devote his first solo recording to Rachmaninoff with three transcriptions of Bach's violin pieces, the etudes-Tableaux Op. 33 and the Variations on a Theme by Corelli: "Virtually unfathomable music. Not merely a composition, but an entire mythology. Interwoven with countless links to his works of every period, it is like a cipher - filled with disguises, transformations, ironies, reminiscences... yet one and the same story," says Zavidov, who concludes this colourful programme with his own magnificent transcription of the famous Vocalise from 1912. She was a great musical talent and a sensitive soul, the child of a socially aspiring family who forbid their daughter to marry the love of her life; instead she was forced into a utilitarian marriage with a respectable husband, but later had an affair with her first sweetheart after all - the stuff of a sentimental novel. Yet Mel Bonis (1858-1937) was no fictional character. She was one of the strongest composers of her time with a focus on piano, chamber music and art songs. She also enriched the repertoire of impressionism with numerous original gems and arrangements for orchestra. Her particularly modern Ophelia, her purring melodie of an enamoured tomcat on a roof at night, her Spanish gypsy waltz and her dances for orchestra are just some of the enchanting discoveries you will find here. Our recording pays a well-deserved tribute to this noble woman. UPC: 761203575220Label: Cpo RecordsRelease Date: 5.22.26Format: CD

With this album, we enter into the court of the Swedish Queen Christina (1626-1689), who distinguished herself with her passions for the arts and sciences, but also through her exceedingly extravagant court life. A few years before her spectacular abdication and return to Catholicism (1654), she had employed an Italian opera ensemble including the Roman singer Domenico Albrici and his 21-year-old son Vincenzo. The latter had already made a name for himself at home and, within a few years in Sweden, composed many excellent vocal works. Together with several instrumental pieces, these survive in the famous Düben collection at Uppsala University. From around three dozen titles, Manfred Cordes has selected a beautifully melodious anthology, which has become an unmistakable hallmark of Weser Renaissance. Rare Italian madrigalsComposers from the upper drawer numbers several well known names (music quality increasing a lot over the century), among them principally Giaches de Wert (1535-1596), Carlo Gesualdo (1566-1613), Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) and, not least, Luca Marenzio (1553-1599) to whom the present CD is entirely devoted. In his rather short lifespan he managed to write about 500 madrigals between 1580 and 1599. In those 2 decades his music developed immensely reaching it's climax in the last 10 years of his life. Though continuing to satisfy his great popular following with loads of small lighthearted songs, Marenzio excelled also in writing ambitious madrigal cycles of which 2 are recorded here: Baci soavi e cari (5 6-part madrigals describing several aspects of kissing) and maybe his Magnum Opus, Capitolo - Se quel dolor (10 6-part madrigals delving into one of the periods favourite subjects: Melancholia.) The incredible music on this album feeds into my lifelong fascination with musical connections, especially the complicated relationship between classical music and jazz. My dear friend Joe Makholm, whose pathfinding music I've been performing and recording for over 25 years now, is a master at exploring this occasionally uneasy marriage. In the groundbreaking set of pieces presented here, all superbly crafted and bubbling with inspiration, Joe is at his creative best in a decidedly jazz-centered collection that is full of straight-ahead swinging, deep expression, pianistic imagination, wit, and sophistication.-Willis Delony UPC: 044747418728Label: CentaurRelease Date: 5.1.26Format: CD

Following critical acclaim from The New York Times, Gramophone and BBC Music Magazine for his album Forgotten Sounds, clarinetist Graeme Steele Johnson returns to Delos with Windsync. "A major force in the American chamber music landscape," the wind quintet has performed throughout the United States and abroad, presenting largely self-generated repertoire - commissioned by the group or arranged in-house. On this album, the musicians trace the stylistic diversity of American music back to a single source: not a founding father but a French mademoiselle, Nadia Boulanger. The composer, conductor, music theorist and legendary composition pedagogue wielded immense influence over American music and musicians. The formidable roster of Boulanger students featured on this album bear witness to this: Philip Glass, Elliott Carter, Quincy Jones and Marion Bauer, whose Woodwind Quintet has been revived and recorded here for the first time. On Nadia, Windsync hopes to humanize Mademoiselle, as she was known by her pupils, by telling her story through a century's worth of music written by teacher and students, a legacy of dizzyingly varied American music that reverberates to this day. This album offers a compelling snapshot of more than a century of Polish composers' contributions to the solo trombone repertoire. The program brings together works in which neoclassical clarity and sophisticated harmonic language intertwine with a neo-romantic spirit-rich in lyrical themes, virtuosic brilliance, and subtle references to folk traditions.Performed by outstanding musicians closely associated with the Poznan concert scene, these interpretations highlight the distinctive warmth, elegance, and expressive power of brass instruments in a refined classical setting. Following the first three CDs in the Bock reads Bruckner series, which were dedicated to the composer's period in Upper Austria, his existence as a perpetual bachelor on the lookout for a wife, and his veneration of Richard Wagner, this fourth of five readings with music now turns it's focus-again with a cast of readers-to the relationship between Bruckner and the sharp-tongued yet stylistically brilliant critic Eduard Hanslick. Through letters and reviews, it highlights how Hanslick's writings in the second half of the 19th century exerted a dominant influence on the entire Viennese musical world. However, six of his own songs, interwoven into the performance, also reveal him as a composer in his own right. In this fourth instalment of the series, Wolfgang Bock and Thomas Thieme, recitation, Elisabeth Wimmer, soprano, and Daniel Linton-France, piano, transport the audience into the fascinating world of Anton Bruckner in an incomparably authentic manner. 'In Mozart's Footsteps' - A Life Between Pop, Jazz and DodecaphonyFew composers have been able to express themselves musically as skilfully as Matyas Seiber: he was the world's first professor of jazz, later becoming active and influential in the International Society for Contemporary Music and a regular presence at major festivals. In his adopted home of England, he turned his hand to a song that can confidently be described as a schmaltzy ballad, subsequently receiving the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for his work. Seiber was also creatively diverse in terms of genres: pieces for an a cappella choir stand alongside chamber and solo pieces, songs, radio and film music, and orchestral works with and without solo instruments. At the heart of the project lies it's carefully designed pedagogical concept. The selected works accompany pianists from early stages of learning to an advanced, concert-ready level. The result is a musical pathway that makes both technical development and growing expressive depth audible. UPC: 4262353970942Label: Prospero ClassicalRelease Date: 6.12.26Format: CD

Terra Infirma was directly inspired by the experiences of it's creative team. Reena Esmail, who resides in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Altadena, was forced to evacuate her home during the catastrophic fires of January 2025. Kondonassis, a committed advocate for the environment, is founder and director of the non-profit organization Earth at Heart; her initiatives include the widely-praised commissioning project FIVE MINUTES for Earth.Terra Infirma reflects not only the environmental passion and advocacy of both artists, but also their inspiration to innovate and expand the concerto form. In this bold new work, with a title taken from a poem by Robert Walters, the harp symbolizes the protagonist Earth, both fragile and powerful. The towering instrument is moved choreographically by Kondonassis across the stage as she journeys through various arrays of suspended percussion. In the composer's words, the work is "part virtuoso concerto, part performance art, and part theater."Esmail, who is Indian-American, has drawn on her extensive studies of Hindustani music in composing Terra Infirma. Her compositional voice is at once arresting, lyrical, haunting, and fierce. The work, which includes a defining movement titled "Immolation," incorporates elements of Raag Deepak, an ancient collection of pitches believed to invoke fire. Kondonassis, known for "a range of colour that's breathtaking," (Gramophone), brings the work to life with colorful authenticity.Says Esmail, "Terra Infirma sits somewhere between a harp/percussion concerto and a monodrama - Yolanda leads us through the trajectory of a wildfire, starting with the eerie moments before the first spark, and ending with the hope of new growth. The work explores our human relationship to fire - a force that can be at once devastating and illuminating. It has been a dream to work so closely with Yolanda, who has reinvented the role of the harp over and over again throughout her career. We have built the DNA of this piece together overso many years - experimenting in percussion studios, mapping stage plots, pushing our imaginations to the limit. I am so excited to share this work with the world."States Kondonassis, "The personal and musical resonance that I feel with Reena has resulted in a work that's deeply personal, uniquely colorful, and ground-breaking in so many ways. The harp is a highly visual instrument, and Terra Infirma utilizes that element to the fullest. In this work, the harp is actually a character in the musical drama onstage, and that gives me the chance to portray an enormous range of artistic emotion."The new concerto forms the heart of The Terra Infirma Project, a multi-year initiative of the Interlochen Center for the Arts, which boasts Kondonassis as an alumna (class of '82). The Interlochen Orchestra is featured along with Kondonassis and conductor Andrew Grams on the world-premiere recording, released in April 2026 on the Grammy-winning Azica label. The entire process, from initial workshops to the world-premiere and recording, has been captured by the award-winning film crew, Fulvew Productions, for an upcoming documentary to be released for airing on PBS Television in August 2026. Music that transcends the bounds of time."For me, the finest music exists in an abstract spiritual world that is inspired by the instruments at hand, but by no means determined by them. Bach had few qualms about rewriting pieces for other instruments as he saw fit, and with many musical ideas, in contrast to virtuosos of the Romantic era, for example, one gets the impression that they were hardly influenced by the constraints of the instruments available. It's like a spirit realm, a large white hall of tones, sounds and voices. That's another reason why I found it so interesting from the outset to collaborate with you on this recording and turn this dream project into reality." The consistently melodious program also includes compositions by Yury Revich himself: his Impressions - short, connecting pieces of music created especially for this project - as well as two original poems, act as conceptual bridges within the chapters of the album and shape PEACE into a coherent musical narrative. Schubert's late string quartets are important for their unprecedented emotional depth, formal expansion, and daring harmonic language. Following the example of his distant 'great uncle' Felix, Arnold Mendelssohn (1853-1933) was a highly regarded composer, particularly in the field of Protestant sacred music, in which his famous relative had already distinguished himself. In contrast, his serious interest in the classical-romantic instrumental genres only began during the First World War, as if the composer wanted to reassure himself of tradition before all of the old structures collapsed. He was already approaching seventy when he wrote his violin concerto and, immediately afterwards, the second of his three symphonies-two witty masquerades whose broad spectrum between expressive meditation and a cheerful finale offers plenty of room for reminiscence, but not imitation. Mendelssohn juggles with symbols of the past but is never at their mercy. He masters them with ease. UPC: 761203566525Label: Cpo RecordsRelease Date: 5.1.26Format: CD
