Pre-Order: Van Reinoud Mechelen - Bach: Ich Habe Genung (CD) (New (N))

Description

Ten years after Erbarme dich (ALPHA 252), which marked the birth of a nocte temporis, the ensemble returns to Bach, this time accompanied by the superb organ at Wondelgem in Belgium, built by Joris Potvlieghe in 2022 and modelled on Bach's favourite organ-builder. This programme features the cantor's only cantata for solo tenor, 'Ich armer Mensch, ich Sundenknecht', composed in 1726. The cantata 'Meine Seele ruhmt und preist' was long considered to be by J. S. Bach, before being attributed to Georg Melchior Hoffmann (1679-1715). Whilst Bach did not compose the 'Ich habe genung' (an older spelling of genug) from Cantata No. 82 for tenor, arias of his own composition for flute and tenor are by no means rare: tenor Reinoud Mechelen and flautist Anna Besson, co-founders of a nocte temporis, share with us their 'immense love' for this work, which was premiered in 1727 at the Thomaskirche. Ten years earlier, in Kothen, Bach composed his Suite in B minor, containing the famous 'Badinerie' which rounds off this homage.
