Originally from Alpena, Michigan, Chura began performing and recording in the late 2000s before becoming a fixture in Detroit's underground music scene, where she developed her distinctive sound through home recordings and live performances. Messes, Chura's first album, introduced her singular songwriting voice: intimate yet abrasive, combining vulnerable storytelling with unconventional melodies and her instantly recognizable warbling, expressive vocals.
