Spring Awakening Original Cast Recording Twentieth Anniversary Edition Duncan Sheik Steven Sater The original 2006 cast recording was made in the months after the show's Off-Broadway run at the Atlantic Theater Company and released just days before it's Broadway debut. Much of it was recorded in Sheik's home studio, preserving early arrangements and performances Playbill. The musical, based on Frank Wedekind's play, won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and launched the careers of stars like Lea Michele, Jonathan Groff, and John Gallagher Jr.
